DCS MiG-21bis has met its funding goal!

Recommended Posts

Finally!!!Was afraid this project could be scrapped due to lack of funds! No doubt,it will be as good as all the other DCS titles.

Not bad if that's all he needed.

Makes TK's quarter million for MP seem steep!

TK's projects are his sole means of support. $13,000 sounds like a lot for a two or 3 week campaign, but if you subtract out the costs it is going to cover, what does he have left to buy food, pay utilities and rent? So, I am assuming that he has a full time job and does this in his spare time. $13,000 is a fraction of what a skilled programmer/artist makes in the US in a year... and that was from only 300 contributors with one person donating $1,000. He has yet to deliver a finished project, and how many more are going to buy it after it is released?

Multiplayer in the big leagues often gets deleted (B-17) or dumbed down (Halo) to keep costs in check (and Halo was a blockbuster title). So TK isn't understating the costs of multiplayer when using Western labor. It would cost TK a lot of time to learn to net code correctly.

However, both Aces High (a very small programming team not much larger than Third Wire) and Bohemia developed their own networking code. But their products focus on multiplayer gameplay and would fail without it. To be fair, Bohemia started out using DirectPlay, but was forced to create their own code due to the poor performance of DirectPlay.

I bet $50 that this guy is going to give me the MiG-21bis I want. Based on the fact that he already had a decent mod for FC2, I think it is a very safe bet.

LOL, what if TK makes planes for DCS World at the lower fidelity level and just uses their netcode?

I wouldn't be interested in something like that. I'm fed up with low fidelity sims and have been waiting for what DCS is supposed to be offering.

Yes, but the point is then you have to deal with a very limited plane set. I don't fly SF2 for the F-16A Netz. I don't fly it for the F-15A.

I fly it for the Buccaneer, the Cheetah, MiG-23ML, MiG-31M, TSR2, Viggen, B-70, and assorted Yaks. I fly it for all the planes I can't fly in combat anywhere else. I just wish it had MP because I miss flying bomb-laden A-4s with a buddy flying F-4 escort against MiG-17s and 21s. I could be flying an A-7 with F-14 escort against Yak-38s and MiG-23s.

I stopped flying F4, F4:AF, BMS, and the others because quite frankly after 20 years I'm a bit tired of the F-16. The Vipers have become the Kardashians of flight sims...they're everywhere, overexposed, and even though I have all of them for SF2 I almost never touch them. I don't mind flying with them or against them, but to fly AS them holds little appeal.

I spent all of the 90s flying the F-15E in various sims, but in this century only the 3rd party one for SF has existed so I'm willing to go that route for DCS when it comes out. But honestly the Harrier and MiG-21 interest me more than the F-15E, possibly just because I did spend a few years with Jane's F-15 and I feel like I've traveled that road. That was the highest fidelity you could get at the time, and it satisfied me.

Go sit in the corner for talking about the F-16 that way! I've been flying lock on/FC2 since it came out and flying BMS is a very nice change. Only if and when DCS makes an F-16 and a nice DC. I must admit the DC in BMS is freaking awesome.

So, after flying LOMAC for only 10 years, you say it's a nice change to fly the F-16, but I can't say it's nice not to fly it after 20??

As for the DC, that was a feat I doubt we'll see replicated, but do remember it came from years of professional development followed by over a decade of modder development on top of that. I'm sure if ED had started a DC for Flanker 1 and kept working it and refining it we'd see a pretty good one in DCS right now too. Alas, they did not.

I still fly FC2 and I didn't say I'm tried of it, plus you threw in the kardashian comment.

Been flying LOMAC since the days when 512mb of ram meant you had a decent box.

I have only flown it for one reason and one reason only.

that big a$$ flying tennis court called the F-15...

My only hope is that FC3 is more than just an eye candy ARMA 2 -lite improvement. I hope they really work on the AI, fix a few features that were broken in FC1, and give the Eagle her just do (no matter how much Flanker and Fulcrum drivers scream and howl  ).

FC1 was at the point where I stopped flying the F-15 in 1.12. AMRAAMs were totally useless, and the radar lost lock every freaking minute. I shot down as many planes in the A-10 as I did in the F-15 in an average mission!!

I admit I've really not had a lot of stick time in FC2, and what I have has not been in the F-15, so I don't really know if it was fixed right.

Slammers were supposedly fixed in FC2 with a bit more range and energy. They have also been better synced up with TWS as well so you can effectively use them against multiple targets.

IMHO, fetch it fido....(the AMRAAM) is still broke. ED is using seriously incorrect info for them. I wish I could edit them for more real life performance.

Yet the AA-12 was even better than the AMRAAM was ever dreamed to be...

I know I'm late, but....

I agree, yet the momoment anything on the US/NATO side is "tweaked" offically a howling cry goes up across the internetz.

The F-15 was broke/neutered in the first releasw, it was slightly corrected in the Flamming Cliff's release and all hell broke spewed loose.

When the Aim-120s were "tweaked" to make it better than an Aim-9C, the hate mail/post rolled in.

My hope is that they will improve the AI, EW, avonics, communications, and mission planning/profiles in the next release.I

Reality tells me that most of it maybe just graphics improvements, as anything done to balance or improve Western aircraft is called "cheating" by those who like to fly Russian aircraft.

I know two real life Hornet drivers who were willing to help ED with non-classified systems. Matt Wagner passed on it because they're in my squadron. I guess he was happier to hear thousands of complaints from paying customers. Hopefully Wags pulls his head out of his ass. One of mine is creating missions for FC.

Rugg is there a way we can tweak the performance ourselves? No offense to the ED Russian team but their bias for the Russian planes and weapons is obvious. They just can't bare the thought that US tech is about 15 to 20 years ahead of theirs. A flight of F-15C's would mop the floor up with Mig-29's any day of the week. The SU-27 wouldn't fare much better. The F-15 is a better plane and the biggest advantage we have over the Russians is the amount of training we get. They only get a 1/4 of the training time we do and that number is on the high side.

In this case it involves me. Wags has spite himself many times because he doesn't like me. Wonder why there haven't been any reviews of ED products here before they're released to the general public?

Dave, can't fix 'em. You'd be called hacker or worse if you played online with the missiles corrected. ED is going to have to fix them and soon because with third party devs who have a lot of 120A data for example (B/C/D is more classified) will be calling for ED to get their act together. And yeah, there's a schitt load of russian bias by ED. Before they fixed them in FC2 the Mig could not only out turn every a/c in the game but it could supercruise out of burner. Don't get me wrong, I like ED's products but they still need to pull their heads out.

Mock combat between german MiG-29 and american F-15C showed very different results.
