What format do sound files need to be in?

Recommended Posts

I am working on a windloop.wav. For whatever reason, when I put a wav file to replace the windloop, it just plays the default noise. I am putting the file in the sounds folder and the bit rate is 176 kbps. Is there some other caveat I am missing?

Thanks,

Eagle

I may be incorrect, but Windloop may be one of the sounds that belong in the Flight folder.

Anything that replaces the windloop does not have to be listed in the soundlist.ini file, because it's association is already there (the default windloop).

For example:

WindloopSoundName=JetPit

Engine, afterburner, stall, gear, flap, airbrake also do not require separate entries, just a similar statement in the aircraft's data.ini. And all sounds reside in the sounds folder, unless you provide an alternate path in the aircraft's data.ini.

i want to change the 'i'm taking damage' wav that plays after your wingmate hits the ground the Wilhelm screem

much more appropriate, methinks.

Well my problem was that I was working in a modded install where the jets I was flying were calling for "RADIOLOOP" rather than "windloop".

I do now have (with that all sorted out) a complete Novalogic F-22 music mod which I can package up and release if anybody is interested. The wind loop is a section of mission music from the game, it's a pretty cool background for downing migs but I don't like how it stops every time I exit the cockpit and go to another view. Anybody have a workaround? Is there a way to add it as some kind of ambiant sound for the plane?
