F-86 Sabre Pack, Pakistani Air Force

 

= For SF2, Any & All =

 

-An additon for the India-Pakistan Mod-

 

This package contains 2 complete aircaft mods of Sabres for the PAF:

 

F-86F, as delivered 1957 (in natural metal)

CL-13B Sabre 6 as "delivered" via Iran in the mid-1960s.

 

The Sabre 6 comes with 2 skins, Euro camo and overall green for No.18 Squadron. All serials

for both versions are 100% historically correct.

New skins for all were created using ravenclaw's beyond superb templates. All skins are in

jpg format. Decal randomization is true. New DDS damage textures are included, as are all new

SF2-style Hangar and Loading Screens. No weapons are supplied, other than the drop tanks, as

these use all stock in-game items.

 

An all new, SF2-compliant FM was created for these aircraft; it flys like it should!

 

As always, fairly easy to follow, yet detailed install instructions are included. Please READ

them! Also, the "Notes" section for a more detailed change/correction list.

Very nicely Done :good: .

 

Flew against it in an IAF Hunter F.56A. The Sabre behaves exactly as mentioned in IAF pilots combat experiences against the F-86. In a turn, the Sabre makes quick work of the Hunter an is easily able to outmaneuver the Hunter. But in the vertical, the F-86 is no match for the Hunter.

Ed did a superb job on this one!

think of this as a foretaste of (whenever it gets done) the KAW mod.

His Mig-15 FM is in the same category -- as close to RL as the game allows

Have been testing and really enjoying the FM.

 

Question.

On takeoff, landings, and slow flight.

Very severe pitch up tendency.

Is this really your intention?

Or a compromise?

iirc, it's something new in the SF2 -started appearing around Jan12 patch ... 98.6% of ALL 3rdParty mods are doing this for some stupid reason (worse on WW2 propjobs and low powered Gen1 Jets)

 

i don't know of a fix, or if any is even possible.

Low speed pitch up on swept wing aircraft is caused by the boundary layer spilling outwards towards the wingtips. This was particularly bad on the F-100 and the MiG-19 (and both had boundary layer fences). The slatted F-86E was superior in this respect to the hard wings, and at low combat speeds (below 300 knots), was actually more maneuverable.

 

If I'm not mistaken, the flight manual stresses keeping the flaps down on all F-86 varients below 180 MPH (155 knots), but retracting them immediately above that speed to prevent pitching oscillations.

Agreed.

But pitch up seems to be 2-3 times too strong.

At least with my install.

Forced to use Full Foward Stick to compensate.

Is there a way too adjust it?

Do you also have a flight model of the E?

Absolutely ESTATIC over your new flight model.

 

Question: Noticed the Control Surface movement values differ greatly from actual geometric data published on the Sabre.

 

Why?

 

Shortcomings of the Basic Simulation?

Work-a-round?

Artistic Flair?

 

Have you made model a high quality Model for the MiG-15?

Have you made a high quality Model for the A,E, and Slat Wing F's.

we had started new models for all the Sabres....unfortunately, they may not materalize.

 

as for the 15, there was one in the works, but ???? Most likely go with TKs from ExpPak1 (there is a FM for that, but I don't recall if I got it or tested it. I prolly do, but again... busy sking Shooting STars, Sabres, and everydamnthing else!)

 

note to self: get back to work on the decals (after replacing HD --it's going bad, so I'm VERY busy trying to save/backup stuff --like EVERYTHING!!!)

F-86 Pitch-up with slats retracted is a real issue. The slats made the aircraft handling acceptable at low speed but were unable to help with shock-induced pitch up at transonic manoeuvre conditions. The other major shortcoming of the J-47 powered Sabres was that they were significantly underpowered relative to the later Australian Avon-powered and Canadair Orenda-powered Sabres (An Avon Sabre has about 50% more thrust available than the US versions). Also, the basic US armament of .50" machine guns is pretty inadequate when compared to contemporary MiGs, or even Hispano-cannon armed Spitfires and Sea Furies (The latter were fairly successful against MiG-15s in Korea, whereas the F-86 had to get quite a lot of lead slugs into a MiG to kill it).

It would be interesting to compare the F-86E against a Hunter Mk. 6, which has twice the installed thrust and much better firepower.
