DISCLAIMER: I am literally from the other side of the planet, so my knowledge of the RAAF, RAN, and Indonesia is mostly from reading Wikipedia. Errors are to be expected..

Hi all!

A few weeks back is started to work on a small campaign based on the Modern Darwin terrain, to get to use all the Aussie DLC planes I just bought  I settled on the year 1970 as the time to get an interesting mix of aircraft. Here is my backstory, which is a pretty big "what-if" but maybe necessary for the time to explain all the airworthy Indonesian MiGs:

In 1965, Indonesian Major General Suharto seizes power over the country, and launches a campaign to prosecute communist party members. The Soviet Politbureu does not however sit idly by, as western intelligence agencies had anticipated, but launched a military mission to keep the KPI in power. Overtly, this mission is told to be a peace-keeping mission to stop the slaughter of thousands of innocent alleged communists. In 1967 Suharto is executed at a court martial and the PKI is installed as the only legal party in Indonesia. The new communist regime is eager to pay back the western powers who tried to support Suharto, and now threatens to launch a campaign to cut Australian supply lines. The bolstered air force flies missile carriers freshly delivered from Moscow, and poses a serious threat to the RAN. The RAAF, aided by the Royal Navy and Airforce as well as the RAN, launches Operation Gambit, aimed at destroying the Indonesian Air Force and Navy.

Features:

  • RAAF, RAN, RAF and RN vs. Indonesia
  • Two carrier groups
  • Three surface groups
  • Ground war

Aircraft:

  • Mirage IIIO F and A RAAF (DLC)
  • A-4G RAN (DLC)
  • F-4E RAAF (mod)
  • F-4K RN (DLC)
  • Buccaneer RN & RAF (mod)
  • Harrier GR.1 RAF (stock)
  • Canberra Mk20 RAAF (mod)

Requirements:

  • Above mentioned aircraft
  • All SF2 titles merged (probably)
  • Ships, most notably the aircraft carriers and some british escort ships, Komar patrol craft, Riga cruisers.. will post list.
  • Modern Darwin terrain, with the two tweak packs applied..

Known bugs/problems:

  • The naval groups are not currently showing except carriers. Possibly related to the Naval Campaign statements.. will investigate. They worked previously..
  • The Indonesian MiGs are using generic skins
  • The RAN and RN carrier groups are just guesswork as I couldn't find any refs on what escorts they should have

Installation:

1) Make sure you have the necessary bits and bobs

2) Extract the IndonesianGambit folder to your campaign folder

3) Add the statements NavalMap=TRUE to your Darwin.ini, and place the included Darwin_water.bmp file in your Darwin terrain folder..

Here is the link, this is only a beta so far thats why its not in the download section yet:

Please report any bugs and problems here, as well as fixes or tweaks if you have them!

The Indonesian MiGs are using generic skins

Change

DefaultTexture=SovietSilver1

Into DefaultTexture=IndonesianSkin1 (or whatever the skin is called.

The RAN and RN carrier groups are just guesswork as I couldn't find any refs on what escorts they should have

Any screen of frigates and destroyers - I think Paulopanz did a few Aussie & RN Escorts - will do.

The naval groups are not currently showing except carriers. Possibly related to the Naval Campaign statements.. will investigate. They worked previously..

Check NavalMap=TRUE & NavalCampaign=TRUE entries foremost if they are present.

Other then that, it looks fine.

Ah yes I might have phrased it a bit unclearly, the problem is that there are no Indonesian skins to use, so the use the Soviet Silver ones.. If anyone of the Decal and Skin masters would like to help, that would be great! Especially since some of the mig schemes are quite dashing!

Yep the navalmap and campaign statements are present and are set to true..

Hmm, your naval entries lack a Start date. That could very well be the issue:

StartDate=10/01/1956

Also, lower the max objects to the ammount of ships in the task force. The game will not issue new ones.

Ok, I'm at a complete loss as to why the naval units don't work.. I've tried to set NavalCampaign=TRUE in both the _DATA and main ini, then only the DATA ini, I've set NAVALMAP=TRUE in the Darwin.ini, i've removed some ship groups, I've added jammer and naval search air sqns... And no dice.. It is doubly annoying since it is based on another campaign for another third party map and there it works, magically.. Anybody have any ideas?

Stupid question: Are you sure your Cordinates are correct?

Yes I am sure my coordinates are correct as I got them by using the mission editor and then saving the mission and opening the file in notepad and copy-pasting the coordinates.... I looked over the water map, again, but to no avail. Is there some kind of timelimit on the new naval combat? Ie not before a certain date?

Some screenshots showing Starys awesome HR tiles which I finally managed to download:

I am stupid; but then again - the obvious errors are usually the one I always miss.

Try :

Ship[01].Type=

Instead of

Ship[01].GroundObjectType=

Oh, and make sure

CollisionMesh=
&
WarshipClass=

are present in the ships data files (they should be if you downloaded them NA ready...)

I am getting crashes on viewing the second PT boat in ground object view (F7), can anyone else confirm this?

If you are getting this, delete the following snippet

Oh Jonathan, I want to kiss you!

I will take the Finnish Gal equivalent, if you please. From my experience, they are far more adapt at it then males.

And yes, I too have had the F 7 error, but in a whole different campaign with different ships. Either it is a freak thing by the latest patch; or something that has to do with naval war in 3rd party terrains.

Before, it usually was triggered when the ships in question was not NA compatible; but neither here or in the other project is this the case. Might want to check if TK edited some of the lines in his latest patch...

OK, good, then I wont waste time trying to troubleshoot the issue.. Anyways, from some playtesting here are some stuff I'm going to change in the next version:

  • More strategic nodes to fight over.
  • Slow down the ground war a bit
  • Try to protect the Ark Royal a bit more, it now got sunk by waves of Badgers. More land based interceptors?
  • The missile carriers dont seem to work, probably a service date issue. Need a proper Tu-16KS with Kometas.

Thanks to the ever so friendly Piecemeal there is now a proper Tu-16KS with Kometas. On the first try out I was flying a F-4K out of Ark Royal with seven (7!!!) wingmen and found the Tu-16KS formation readily enough. I then started to expend munitions like crazy but ultimately two Badgers fired their missiles, and well...

I also started working on some MiG skins since the ones avaliable was a little low resolution.. Still work in progress:

This looks great!

- check my last Mig-15UTI compilation: there are 4 AURI skins.

I have a plenty of AURI Mig-17, Mig-17PF, Mig-19S, Mig-21F, IL-28, Tu-16 make/in the makings, too ......

First look at beta-campaign:

- 3 AURI Mig-17PF, I think, are too much! I found very few (4) numbers. They could field a squadron at last (I suppose).

- Maybe You could add some Mig-17F instead

And a little clue:

- when the squadron it'snt coded in squadronlost use UNITNAME= both in campaign and in campaign.data inis: it will work well and you will have not to edit official (and sometimes edited by tk) squadron list.

This way You could make AURI flyable, too!

PS: I upgraded the old Timor 75 by A-TEAM campaign adapting it to new target names in new terrain and it works fine ....

I'm looking forward to fly this campaign. Will be possible to fly as the Indonesian Mig drivers too? IIRC they had some F13 Fishbeds too.

Yes!

If you still suffer from the F7 problem, update your ship model to latest version. Worked for me (at least with the Riga class...)

Make reds flyable is an easy task.

- Before skinning 21 I'm taking care of 19.
