Glad to hear you're enjoying NF5. This mod was almost two years in the making (we started on it just a few days after the release of Exp. Pack 2). In the process we managed to check off quite a few of my own "wish list" items. Good that we got yours, too.

Nato5 is a very good and fun, enventually I made some modificationsand derived a 1980 campaign to add more planes (Danish J35, alphajet, German Tornados, NF5A, Mirage IIIC) .

Eric, sorry to be a pain but having just installed NF5, when I flew the F-4M_75 (lovely flight model, by the way :) ) the radar display was missing the range bars and there was no gunsight on the HUD? Is there anything I can do fix this?

The cockpit and avionics on the F-4M_75 are completely stock -- not modded or added by us. So, any problems you're having in that area are with the stock game. Not much I can do about that.

Thanks, Eric. I've just reinstalled NF5 and the same problem came up. Must be, as you said, a stock issue. Guess I'll have to reinstall SF2 all over again (groan)...

I was getting the same problem with the US Phantoms too and the F-104s as well. Reinstall time - thanks for the reply. It eliminates possible causes... :D

Possible bug? One of my Phantoms just got shot down by a Hawk SAM battery - it was definitely enemy (red) - can SAM batteries be captured and turned in use?

Wien1938:

Yes, the Hawk batteries can be captured and turned against you. It's a matter of the way those batteries are set up in the terrain TARGETS.INI. The individual Hawk items are specifically called out as opposed to generic SAM items, which could allow any friendly SAM to fill the available slots in the battery.

If we did use the generic SAM items, once those SAM batteries were captured you'd be facing SA-2s, SA-3s, SA-6s, or SA-10s being fired from those same locations. Either way you've got hostile SAMs.

Hello all. Congratulations for this awesome mod!

I am new to Strike Fighters in general and i was very pleased with all that huge amount of different planes available, imagine now after installing Nato Fighters 5.

At first with such large number of flyable planes i feared all would be similar, But i find there is notable differences thankfully. Most planes performance being similar to the real thing and such. However after trying the Mig-25R i found it is very underpowered. Isnt this beast supposed to reach about 25,000 m and fly next to mach 3? i was barely capable of reach mach 1,5 and couldnt even fly leveled above 15,000 with the afterburner at full. Am i missing something here?

Also, is there somewhere a campaign using this mod, where you are in the opposite side in order to fly all the flyable mig´s and su´s?

fantastic , works perfectly well with my SF2 packages : SF2Europe+ Europe Expansion pack 2+SFNA , what I miss is a carrier group in the sea and the F-14 TOMCAT it is a COLD WAR Warrior and should be added in the Campaing , the LONG LEGGED AIM54s could be very handy for long range Strike Escort ,Intercept,CAP and other type of missions , any Chance to add this as it already require SFNA ?

MURc:

I have no plans to add such a thing. The mod is already enormous as it is, with hundreds of aircraft.

There are carrier stations defined in the terrain's TARGETS.INI. If users want to add their own preferred mix of carriers and naval aircraft, the basic ground work is already laid for them.

I hope you don't mind if I add to this, Eric. MURc, the NATO Fighters mods have always focused on the straight up, WARPAC armored forces pouring through the Fulda Gap, Germany/Central Europe scenario. When you consider that the Red Storm Rising campaign is probably occurring concurrently with something similar to the stock Northern Sabre campaign, (Clancy's book wasn't that much of a leap; NATO planners had long suspected that the Soviets had plans to contest the GIUK gap one way or another, with the aim of a breakout into the North Atlantic in order to halt, or at least delay, American reinforcement convoys.) The U.S. Navy would have more than had it's hands full countering this threat, and for this reason it is unrealistic to expect to see F-14s over mainland Europe in a conflict of this scope. I love the Tomcat, and it would have been involved in the conflict, but there is a 90+% percent chance that it's involvement would've been in the struggle for control of the seas, in this case the North Atlantic, the mission it was built for.

Captured Hawk batteries are a pain - they don't even show up on the map when they've fired. I have to overfly the battery, manually pick out the radar units, shoot them up and even then I've seen Hawks firing from sites which should be silent.

At the moment, they're making captured NATO territory more dangerous to overfly than Warpact territories!

My problem with HAWK batteries is that they don't show up. Tried many times SEAD or Reconnaisance missions with the red side but only Rolands, Rapiers or Stingers are being shown.

On the other hand red SAM battalions are working fine varied from SA-2 to SA-13.

Any ideas?

I assume by "not show up" you're referring to them not showing up on the map. That's a quirk of the game. Custom-placed Blue SAMs -- like the HAWK batteries -- will not show up on the map or RWR.

No, they don't show up on the game! Tried many times to search for them by pressing F7, but only the SAMs I mentioned above appeared. Well, I think this is quite strange If you consider that a large number of HAWK sites are widespread along West German and DDR borders in the targets.ini

I may do something wrong but the problem with blue side batteries (HAWK mostly) is general in the SF2. From my experience, the only terrain in which they appear normally is the Anatolia.

If they're not appearing in the game at all, then the only explanation I have is some error during installation. In every test I've ever run with NF5 they appear, and no other player of NF5 has reported a problem with the Hawk SAMs (other than their surprise that Hawk batteries shoot at them after being overrrun by advancing Soviet ground forces).

I checked it again trying different HAWK launchers and missiles and there were only two times when 1-2 launchers were close to a HAWK HIPIR radar.

However, if this HAWK http://combatace.com/files/file/9472-working-hawk-for-sf2/ is installed, then it becomes the most usual SAM system but 2-3 launchers with no radar, since it is used as STATIC AAA.

Any idea on how to make the HAWK battery to be deployed in six launchers/one radar or three launchers/one radar ?

I've been having in issue with the highway strips for the Harriers. All of the flights for all harriers based at highway strips in any campaign seem to originate in the bottom left corner of the map, and actually start in the air. Any ideas for fixes other than re-install?

Nope, no ideas. I'd say your install is incomplete or broken.
