How can these be converted to other formats like .jpg or .bmp? Or the other way around?

Photoshop can convert it provided you have the plugin, maybe GIMP?

Another solution would be the freeware program "DXTBmp", you can get here http://dxtbmp.findmysoft.com/

Opens either common files, but also DDS and you can save them as DDS or other formats.

excuse me if this is simplistic, but why not open in the one format (say dds) then save as filename.jpg? so long as you have the software (with plugin) that can view both. have not messed with dds much myself, but pretty sure i did this awhile back to convert........

works exactly as DA described in PS.7 (and PS6 with the plugin). Gimp also

be advised, however. Some LODs that are speced ONLY for dds, can/will ONLY take that format. Niether jpg or bmp will work on those. So be carefull what you work on

Easy2Convert DDS to BMP Google It Freeware. Also As Wrench Mentions Know Which LODs You Can Open In SF1 Series. After Certain Export Level Will Not Function In SF1 Series And

The Handfull Of Types You Can Have To HEX Edit .dds To .bmp Used It On Alpha Jet.
