Worst War Movie Ever...

Recommended Posts

In the spirit of the Best Vietnam and Best War Movie ever threads how about a worst war movie ever...

Okay 1 rule you must state why it is the worst War Movie ever in your opinion might as well give the Little Grey Cells something to chew over :-

Personally I have a few I would state are the worst movies ever starting with Pearl Harbour :-

Okay whats with the love interest (oh yeah so you can take your girlfriend (not sure why as its a War Movie)).

Also the acting is wooden ie Terrible...

But it is saved from being the worst movie ever because the CGI isn't too bad...

So over to you guys...

U-571.

As if the Germany Navy was ever that incompetent. And it was the British that captured the Enigma decoding machine in 1941.

One sub being hit by torpedoes out of the night by another sub, and then the survivors taking over the attacking sub? You don't get to be submarine captain's by having the IQ of a turnip.

A German Destroyer/Destroyer Escort/Patrol Boat/Minesweeper, whatever it was with what had to be the dumbest crew ever to sail the Atlantic... You roll up on a German Sub in the Middle of the Atlantic, and the Captain isn't the one doing the talking? And you let them train their guns on you? Not to mention that it was exceedingly rare to SEE a U-Boat on the surface outside of port, unless there was some sort of major issue/action going on. And a long litany of things that just don't make any sense whatsoever.

If it were trying to pass itself off as a war movie, the title of "worst ever" would go hands down to the "Iron Eagle" series. They had to be the absolute stupidest scripts ever set to cellulite.

I had the idea of making this topic myself)))

... well it is task harder than I anticipated.. I usually forget bad movies.

1. Szabadság, szerelem (Freedom, Love) - about the 1956 revolution in Budapest

2. Pearl Harbor

3. Battleship (IF we can call it a war movie...)

4. U-571

5. Dirty Dozen (sorry)

7. Bridge on river Kwai

8. Five days of war

9. Saving Private Ryan (again, sorry)

... I can't remember more yet.

A German destroyer would NOT have been out in the open Atlantic during WWII by itself in the first place. Where would it refuel and replenish? It would be a sitting duck. And sorry, your argument regarding U-boats on the surface is just dead wrong. U-boats spent the majority of the patrol on the surface during the first half of WW II. They were, after all, submersibles and not true submarines. The type XXVIs would have been the first true submarines, had any been completed.

Agree, but the German destroyers of that time were more close from the light cruiser than the destroyer.

I reserve my sentence until I have seen what a North Korean war movie looks like. But for the moment, I can't see 'Windtalkers' without smiling or openly laughing at some sequences. John Woo can make the rogues glamourous, but can't help to make the warriors ridiculous.

Forgive, I don't really like their story. Its OK, Private Ryan was an awesome spectacle, but otherwise... mmm nah for me. Thats why the 9th place (it means not that bad)

Hard question. Movies that bad are usually forgotten before the end credits are over.

Indeed, with FMJ you can discuss wich part of the film was better, Vietnam or Parris Island, but with Heartbreak Ridge, it is more some kind of a tragic comedy about the character with a happy ending. Everytime mom is zapping and it is in any channel, she just sighs "Again?" and leaves it for me

Red Tails and Tuskeege Airmen.

What? Why?

Okay. They told a great story of men who crossed the color line in the sky. They were faced with opposition both on the ground and in the air. I wouldn't say they were great because the actors and direction in both well lacked a lot.

In Tuskeege Airmen is was like B rate acting meets old gun camera footage. More could've been done to show the struggle of the men.

Red Tails was like Tuskeege Airmen meets Star Wars ... well understandable considering the only movies George Lucas did was star wars so yeah.

Like Tuskeege airmen I found some of the acting not to be engaging enough Ne Yo with fake accent come on dude.

All in all they are both decent for the story they tell but as far drawing me in and keeping me invested well they lacked.

Dig into the grit of the racial tension of that time. Show the pilots busting their butts to achieve something while the majority of America mocked them and hated them for fighting for America. Let the dirty ugly truth come out. And show, that in the end, when you hold your head up and fight for what you want you can get somewhere no matter how bad someone dogs you.

I think the directors of both movies tried to dial down the racism because it is still to this day something that will start a fight. I say they shouldn't. Let the truth out.

WORST -- Fail Safe.

If I recall this is the movie where, in one scene a flight of...something...was instructed to goto afterburner, and they showed that with film of, I think, F-102s firing rockets. Honestly I couldn't watch the whole thing it was that bad.

Oddly enough... One of the BEST is Dr. Strangelove. Maybe its a Xen thing.

1968 Tunnel Rats...

I would gladly raise the money for the transportation of any Vietnam era veteran that wants fly out to the production and writing staff of this movie and give them a good old fashioned wood shampooing.

Hey, I'm all for movies or media that are critical of a political or military action (be it from the left or right). But this P.O.S. was a travesty and worse than a D rate North Korean propaganda film shot with a kaleidoscope and script written on a etch a sketch by a person with palsy. This was nothing more than a wannabe and even more unrealistic Apocalypse Now (which aint to high up my list either).

Let's get past the fact that this movie completely bastardizes and craps on the the real life sacrifice of those in uniform...

  • Where is the flyin monkey #@$! is the storyline?
  • Ok so these guys are in the same unit, can they at least act like it?,
  • The concept of a permanent fire base, supposedly right beside a VC/NLF/Communist tunnel complex and base is in the dead center of the jungle with no perimeter; has no active guards or patrols; is comprised of a bunch scattered hooches and flimsy bunkers; no CP; no defensive positions; and not even a slick trench can be found.
  • When a patrol does go out and comes across a tunnel (a few meters from the firebase deep in the jungle) guess what: The entire fire team gets decimated because one by one they decide to go into the tunnel (even the M-60 gunner); where the VC picks them off one by one in a Saw or Hostel horror movie type fashion.
  • THERE ARE FREAKIN UH-60S ON COVER OF THE MOVIE...

Red Tails...

A freakin monstrosity, George Lucas and anyone that green lighted that film should be taken out back and kneecapped, then forced to do a crab walk across a hot and recently tarred parking lot in the Arizona desert. Almost two hours of my life was stolen from me at the movie theater that day, and I will fight tooth and nail till I get it back.

  • a New York rapper from the inner-city projects of Staten Island, playing a southern crew chief?
  • What was the story line again? (Pilot 1:"I'm a pilot!" Pilot 2: "Hey, I'm a pilot too!" Everyone: "Cool! lets go fight racism!!")
  • No General Benjamin O. Davis Jr. ? (commander of the 99th and the 332nd and whose father was the first general black officer in the U.S. military)
  • There was more to the Tuskegee Air Man story than just red painted P-51s (especially for a lot of pilots/crew that stayed in and moved up the ranks to fight in Korea and/or Vietnam).
  • Insert incoherent profanity here:_______

Rambo 2. It was so much LOL. So stupid, so seldom heroic stupid.

And Rambo 3. Much more LOL and much more heroic stupid.

No real actors, only brainless dialoges, stupid black white sceme. Here the heroic americans, there the stupid red vilains. :hunter:

But there were a lot of soviet made war movies which were also mostly rubbish.

Ahhh but it still make some fun  ! After all the US action cinema from Reagan's era and the few years following brought us the best, like Die Hard, Predator, as the worst: Commando stays a nice stupid one, with its lovely M202 child fireworks launcher firing to white powder Chicanos sniffers :minigun:
