This is their third one since 2006, they get a little bigger every time. They have a rocket that can reach Alaska, Washington State, Oregon and Cali. Its only a matter of time somthing will happen.

I like the quote about how now that they're nuclear, no one can irritate them. Uh, we've had them since 1945...I guess no one has ever done anything contrary to our interests, eh?

Mako, I'm not exactly worried yet. its not likely that the nuke is small enough to be a warhead yet, and their rockets can reach us. with a tailwind. and the proper blessings from a Tibetan monk. and a prayer. and a unicorn. last check i believe the Nkoreans only believe in one of those things. more worrisome would be if they loaded a nuke on a frieghter and sailed it into Pearl Harbor or San Diego. but any nation attemping that has to realize that once caught, human nature dictates that they will likely be wiped off the face of the earth. look at our response to 4 airliners, what do you think the US would do in response to a nuke taking out hundreds of thousands to millions of our citizens?

How about we launch a hundred missiles at them (not armed) and when the missiles blot out the sun over North Korea little flags will pop out with messages saying "if this were a real nuke you'd be dead. Launch a firecracker the next time and these will be real nukes and North Korea will go bye bye."

But then polotics would get in they way and that's propbably not a good idea.

The issue is that they (North Koreans) are scared out of their wits. I saw one interesting interview with N. Korean official where big concern of N.Korea is that they don't want to fare like Iraq, Serbia, or Libya. They do have a big deterrent in form of China, but they also want to have one in their hands. They turned to their nuclear program in 90's and especially in early 2000's when they were put on top of the "axis of evil" list by the hawks. Why wouldn't you wanna arm yourself when you have neocon fascist madman running around. I don't condone N.K. politics at all, the country is ruled by hereditary communist dynasty, but one should put himself in their shoes, they are in constant fear of invasion, just like Cuba, no wonder there is no democracy in those places. They are treated by west in regard with economics exactly the way China was in 50's, 60's, and 70's., isolation, no trade etc., just China had larger communist bloc around themselves. And besides, who ever thinks that they would be the first to launch an atomic weapon in anger has an IQ of a turnip or watches to much of FOX news.

The P.R.C also refused for long times to export and open its gates to the outside, this vicious circle wasn't from a single source. Now we must consider that in its progressive "opening" to the West the P.R.C was already in transition to the third industrial stage. Currently the D.P.R.K remains at the first... something that reflects the internal situation of the State. Now I have no knowledge on the part that represents the military budget in relation to North Korea's G.D.P but it must be impressive... like its southern neighbor one.

I saw a special on NK by some underground reporters and said that the major cities,Hmmm......only get electric power turned on twice a week! That's a long time to wait for a PoP tart! If you think I'm foolin check out a google earth sat picture of that region that bright spot is S.Korea at night.

That country is more industrialized than most people think, nothing like China though. They produce cars and microchips, have full self-sufficiency in food production. The famines, cannibalism and millions of dead from starvation are media fabrications. Most of European, or L. American countries cannot produce toilet paper, not to speak of food self-sufficiency, all because of WTO and GATT grip on those countries. If N. Korea were not under severe economic and commercial sanctions for many years now, they would be even better of. They do spend about 25% od GDP on defence, which is appalling, that is about 35-40& of annual state budget. So this move to go nuclear could be in direction of drastically lowering that budget. When you have an atomic weapon you don't need an army of 1 billion men. N.Koreans are looking into Chinese economic model with interest, hell, even roads in N. Korean cities are starting to see cars, folks are buying cell phones, and are dining in fast food joints. foreign ind. corporations are opening production lines in the country etc. Yet the indoctrination of the population by the commie power structure is ugly and arhaic, but meddling into other countries affairs is something that UN charter forbids explicitly. Rather try a different approach, trade, develop stuff in various areas, and have a friendly approach. Sunshine policie that S.Korea tried for a while actually worked well, that was the most peaceful and constructive period for these two.

So if they are scared then why kick a hornets nest to prove you're not afraid of anything while fearing the pending stings. Unless the CIC and his staff knows this and are just playing along for N Korea's benefit. Ugh my head hurts.. hate politics ... I find interesting from time to time though... other times just painful. To me its like playing poker but instead of using chips you use people's lives.

heck i'm born and bred chinese but hate the commie bastards. since the chinese trade gate's opened in the 80s big changes have happened in our lives. i'd love to get more democracy over here albeit perhaps a wet dream that one, but it's sad to see NK re-trace the chinese old tortured steps.

"Democracy" and Communism are both bullcrap coming from the same hole. What the Nazis said... protecting us from bolshevism an zionism... what the soviets told us, they liberating us from nazism and imperialism. what the NATO said, liberating us from communism.. the zionist say they purge us from nazism and bring liberal democracy.

What if they all go to hell and leave us alone to live an prosper...

We got in chaos and crisis deeper than in the worst commie times. Thank you all.

Remember Athens... 60-80000 free-born athenians, the "choosen people" who had right to vote. The rest were slaves, debt-slaves, foreigners, outlawed aborigines, refugees. The Alliance of Delos... pay horrible tax to Athens, for protection, in the name of war against Persia. If you want to leave the alliance, here comes the Athenian Fleet to ruin your city walls and loot your polis. Why it is so similar to NATO?

Be proud of your country, and don't push for political changes to fast or in the direction of some western democracies, 'cause they are not democracies, rather plutocracies. Your communist party, no matter how rigid or non plural it may be, has the progress and welfare of people as its priority.

Interesting. I thought I was the only one who thought that way. Albeit Democracy gives you the chance to pick who is going to screw you. BTW I found this little picture some time ago. I know its off topic I just thought you'd get a kick out it.

The only universal rule is the Golden Rule...he who has the money makes the rules. Those rules will help out people of various classes and races to the detriment of others, but in every situation the rulers live better than the people, even the ones that ostensibly are all about 100% equality. Now power is money and money is power, so while there's some blurring of the lines between rich and powerful people (not all powerful are rich, not all rich are powerful) but as a bloc the rich and powerful are the same.

You can have one party, two parties, multiple parties, or none and a single absolute ruler with rich sycophants supporting them, espousing any number of ideologies, but in the end those without will always outnumber those who have.

well you can't just look at money as money. in making it you also create something for others i.e. increased productivity. if there's no-one going for the $$ everybody will be living in poverty, stone age... sure there'll be no "classes" but who'd want that? if there's a national mob trying to take away whatever you create, unless you bribe and kiss, and successful in doing that which isn't an easy task, then the winners are usually not who creates the best product, but who has the inside connections even if his stuff is s**tty. from the pov of free market, the government can be considered a monopoly in every industry, much stronger than that even, since you cannot survive it with marketing strategies.

however that's just one. for the average joe tho, can he say what he wants to; does he have access to, or have the chance to access info he should have; does he have a chance to defend his own rights; is he allowed to possess vital property; is he granted a piece of responsibility as an owner of his own nation and in turn responsibility for his own actions... that's the question i ask myself and my fellow countrymen especially those "ruling classes". yes you can keep them fed, a place to live and something to do during the day with cheap pay, but are they humans or just animals?

for the US ofc those boys on wallstreet partied too hard, heck even my european friends say the states are very capitalistic. so the system is faulty, so tune it down a notch. at its core it still works. it ain't perfect, yup far from, but there's no better alternative, and at the least socialism ain't the answer. it offers some kind of stability but it deprives any chance of prosperity at the level of 1st world nations. i see so many western guys on the street and wonder what they're doing here. if it's for the cheap labor or stuff that happened 1500yrs ago or love of his life then ok, but other than that i'd like to tell him to go home... but sure there's still sovereignty (and well peace) here, apparently some others yet have it.

The fundamental issue is people don't remember where they came from. Whether they were born into it, or pulled themselves up from nothing, people who get to the top always seem to at best disregard or ignore and at worst revel in the plight of those below them. Even if they had a lot, lost it and saw it for themselves, and then climbed up again, once back at the top few have any sympathy for those who aren't.

Since the earliest days of humanity, survival often required defeating others in one way or another, from simple stratification to all-out subjugation or even killing. While many on the left like to think humanity has grown beyond this stage, and many on the right seem to think they were already created beyond that stage just a few millennia ago, the truth is even recent history has demonstrated the lie of that. People WANT to be better than other people. If there is no real basis for that superiority, then they invent it, and you get racism and xenophobia and other things that are based on whatever differences exist.

Here's the irony that gets me: left-wingers believe in evolution in nature, but people are now evolved and we should all be equal and have the same stuff to many extents, no matter how hard you worked and the other guy just squeaked by. Right-wingers believe in creation from above, making all humans in that image, but that in socioeconomic matters it's pure Darwinism "survival of the fittest" and businesses should be allowed to do whatever they want and if you make billions on the suffering of others, that's just because you deserved to. They believe the same things, but reverse where the ideologies are applied!

Same thing with legal death...left says abortion is fine, but never kill a criminal no matter what they do because they can be redeemed, not even in self-defense because if you let the criminal have what they want no one needs to die, and more broadly applies that to wars as well, because war is always wrong. Right says abortion is immoral, but extreme sinners must be put to death, and killing in self-defense should be allowed under very broad circumstances, including where the criminal is unarmed but could be (ie they're not naked so "there's no way to know") and applies that to nations and wars ("just" wars and all that) as well. Yet all profess to believe in the sanctity of life!

There is at least one other universal rule, which is the Rule of Gravity: whoever holds the power must remember he's sitting just next to the edge of the Tarpeian Rock. Not so an enviable place, thinking about it.
