A little more experimental work using Gimp.  Feel free to bash.  It's the only way I'll learn.

Need to find number info on these guys.  I know this isn't the quite correct skull for a late N, but it's the best one I could find and repaint.  Most lineups show a wide variation in skull types anyway.

on OD aircraft, the numbers would be yellow (-- closest match is RLM Gelb. RGB values 228/164/0)

on natural metal, black

 

each squadron in the group had a number sequence  and often a color assigned; so, knowing WHICH squadron from what group would allow you to find out (with proper reference material, that is.)

 

so, tell me, what squadron, what group, and I'll look it up

80th Fighter Group/88th Fighter Squadron.  I just carried over the numbers from a previous skin.  I'll put yellow ones on it soon.  Do you think it looks okay, otherwise?

yeah, I do. I like the dark dirt around the panel lines. The skull look great (considering none of them were exactly alike). I'll see if I can't find the proper number sequence in my books

80th FG, 10th AF (name: Burma Banshees)

 

88th FS - 10-39

89th FS - 40-69

90th FS - 70-99

459th FS - 100-127 (P-38)

 

white tail numbers

 

damn thing doesn't list the spinner colors, so the basic (as used in New Guinea) (reads :WAG)

 

1st sqdn, red

2nd sqdn, yellow

3rd sqdn, green

Thanks, Wrench.  You're the best.  That PBJ looks incredible.  This one was a training squadron, but I had to play with it.  When it comes to the skulls, I'm going to find as many different ones as I can.  Since these are decals, I can make them different for different aircraft.

Only when flying them seems to happen; escorting or intercepting generates the "proper" formations.

it's gotta be a code fuck up. normally, most bomber formations should be based on a 3 plane flight. even messing with the formation ini didn't seem to help (drove/driven me bat-shit crazy when testing the B-17s)

 

has anyone tried fiddling the formation ini to use the 'standard' bomber formations?
