After the Carnation Revolution, the pro-comunist portuguese army took the political power in that  country. The   conservative  spanish goverment  lead by prime
minister Arias Navarro considered  the change of the political sign of portugal, as a menace agaisnt the stability of Spain,  europe and  NATO.

At late 1974  spanish  armed forces  supported by  western powers such  as the  USA, France , UK and the  NATO started  an invasion   agaisnt Portugal  with the
objetive of finishing with the new socialist portuguese goverment.

However, the soviet union , decided to support both military and economically portugal in order to defeat the western effort. It is expected that soviet military
means will operate from north africa , extendig the war into that region.

Well, i've made a few changes in the campaign, now the action takes place at 1976 so historicaly the use of Harriers is correct as well as the use of the Mirage F-1. Now I need your help. First of all no Air to Air missions can be flown , Any idea? Maybe because I only have a few enemy air units?

Here you have a list of the means that I have in the campaign by now:

Spanish air force:

F-4 Phatom II

Mirage F-1 CE

T-33 Shooting Star

Mirage IIIEE

F-5 Freedom Fighter

All of them with correct decals an weapons.

Spanish navy:

AV-8S Harrier

R-01 Dédalo

Churruca Class Destroyers:

Churruca

Gravina

Méndez Nuñez

Lángara

Blas de Lezo

Oquendo Class Destroyers:

Oquendo

Roger de Lauria

Marqués de la Ensenada

Lepanto Class Destroyers:

Lepanto

Almirante Ferrándiz

Almirante Valdés

Alcalá Galiano

Jorge Juan

Baleares Class Frigates (Only for those with SFNA module)

Baleares

Andalucía

Cataluña

Asturias

Extremadura

Portuguese Air Force

G-91 R-1 Gina

So now I need your help in order to have information mainly about the spanish ground forces, and very spetially  about portuguese air and naval forces as well as Moroccian and Argelian durinf the 70's.

Thank you guys

The issue regarding the air to air missions I think that is related with the Naval Campaign. During the first two days enemy forces only sank spanish ships and once most of them are destroyed, air to air missions are "unlocked" for us. But it is something that I don't like cause you can not avoid the sinking of the ships at the start of the campaign!!

The Oquendo class is troublesome, but i could look for it. About the Spanish Army, it had AMX-30s and upgraded M47-M48s as MBTs, along with AMLs for cavalry unit, will provide with a clear Orbat as soon as possible. Not sure about Portuguese forces, but will try something. I know they had F-86s beside the Ginas, but i don´t know if by that time they still had F-84s and A-26s operating in the peninsula by 1974, most probably didn´t. Will ask to our neighbours.

EDIT: Man i miss those skins...

Churruca Class (Correct Model)

Oquendo (Model based on a WWII destroyer, similar to the original one)

Dédalo and Lepanto (Correct Models)

Coutinho Class Corvette (Type 21 Frigate modified)

The campaign is going very very slowly as I'm having lots of troubles.....  The Dédalo is always sunk the first day, No air to air missions for spanish forces until the third day of war...... Still a lot of work to do.

Interesting idea for a campaign, but even in a what if scenario something like this would be very problematic since your background story has small inconsistencies.

It is true that the conservative government of Spain was afraid of a communist Portugal, mostly because a communist Portugal could a haven for a ressurgengy of Spanish communists.

But even so there were a few issues:

- NATO was the only one who could intervene in Portugal with military forces;

- Communist Portugal would not have great support of Soviet Union, for several reasons;

- Portuguese people would be very hostile against a Spanish invasion, but not against NATO presence;

- Spain was not part of NATO and Spanish forces on Portuguese soil would mean a total violation of NATO's directives;

- Majority of Portuguese population and several army factions would resist against communism (as they did);

In my opinion even for a what if scenario it doesn't seem very plausible. Maybe a Portuguese Civil War would be, but because of what i mentioned above Spain's participation wouldn't be more of protecting their borders and allow for NATO to use their military bases.

Just my two cents, but anyway, good luck for your project!!

I agree but as you may know.............. This is fiction...... just a "What if"

Indeed it is a bit of overreaction lol.

About Dédalo, Harriers were in service from 1976, so keep that in mind. For a 1974-5 campaign, she would have carried AH-1G Cobras. Indeed the Dédalo BG is a bit unprotected against air strikes, without Matadores and Baleares class frigates, but i think they would be operating close enough for Phantoms to cover them. Maybe, if PoAF priorize attacking the BG, it would be good for the Phantoms to have intercept as a higher priority role or something. That would explain both the low survivability of Dédalo and the lack of air to air missions for the Spanish Air Force. If they are to try fighter sweeps while the PoAF is all out for sinking Dédalo, the game engine could be diverting them to A-G missions as they don´t have enemy fighters doing CAP to sweep against, in example.
