The Scandinavian Front 2

This is an all-inclusive package. It already contains everything you need to play.

(Please read the included Credits file. I could not do what I do without the lovely people who helped me by allowing me to use their work!)

The official soundtrack of the mod is

with Sabaton.

Before downloading the main files again if you seek to patch the game, check the support topic. Patches are posted there too.

Main Features:

New 512x512 Terrain Tiles by Stary; resident master of Terrains who have made sure that the Baltic region looks the part and steadily pushes the limits of the SF2 Engine.

New Campaign: That is right. We did not settle with just upgrading the ones we already had, you will get a remake of the classic Operation Mannerheims Shield set in the year 2014.

New Flyable Aircraft: F 16AM Falcon, F 18 Hornet, J 32E Lansen , The J 35J Draken, Danish & Finnish Drakens, SK-16 & Helikopter 15B amongst others, the Helicopter with its own Visby Operations Mission! While most of these have been available by talented modders for some time; we have now a proper playground for them. Others, such as Ravenclaws J 32E and the Helicopter 15B has never been released.

New AI Aircraft: S 100C Argus, MiG 31BM, SU-25TM, Tu 16T Badger, Tu 22M3 Backfire, IL-10 Beast as well as compatibility with the AI Planes Pack Su-9.

New Ground Objects: Swedish Anti-Aircraft Units, Russian Amphibious Landing ship, Soveremmeny Class Destroyer, Kresta Class Cruiser and more.

All new effects.

A number of corrections, smoother code, changes and small additions to existing campaigns as well as numerous bug fixes.

Included Campaigns:

Campaign Name: The Catalina Affair

Year: 1952

Flyable Services: Swedish Air Force

Naval Combat: Yes

Ground War Scale: Small

What to expect: A quick campaign with props and early jets over the Baltic. Made to resemble a larger battle that does not go deeper into a full blown war.

Campaign Name: Operation Isbjörn

Year: 1956

Flyable Services: Swedish Air Force, Finnish Air Force, Norwegian Air Force

Naval Combat: Yes

Ground War Scale: Medium

What to expect: A longer campaign with jets and props. More focus on the ground war.

Campaign Name: Operation Mannerheims Sköld

Year: 1966

Flyable Services: Swedish Air Force, Finnish Air Force, Norwegian Air Force, Danish Air Force

Naval Combat: Yes

Ground War Scale: Large

What to expect: The Total War in Scandinavia. A long campaign, where no stops will be pulled in order to succeed in the battle. Large air battles, air assaults and intense dogfights are on the schedule.

Campaign Name: Midvintermörker

Year: 2012

Flyable Services: Swedish Air Force

Naval Combat: In a manner of speaking

Ground War Scale: Small

What to expect: Based on a novel by Lars Wilderäng. The ultimate pilots challenge as you fight to retake Gotland from a Russian Invasion Force. Survival is your goal.

Campaign Name: Operation Mannerheims Sköld 2014

Year: 2014

Flyable Services: Swedish Air Force, Finnish Air Force, Norwegian Air Force

Naval Combat: Yes

Ground War Scale: Large

What to expect: The Total War in Scandinavia. A long campaign, where no stops will be pulled in order to succeed in the battle. Large air battles, air assaults and intense dogfights are on the schedule.

Just with modern aircraft and adjusted accordingly. Gets very interesting as both sides start to run low on supply and have to risk losing missions to preserve their aircraft.

Installation:

This mod requires SF2: Europe. SF2 North Atlantic, Expansion Pack 1 and DLC 008 J 34 Hawker Hunter is highly recommended.

First of all, make sure you are using SF2: Europe and that it is patched to the latest version. This is _vital_.

Check http://www.thirdwire.com if you are unsure what the latest patch is, but the game should notify you if there is new patches out.

Delete ANY PRIOR TSF MOD INSTALLATION! This is vital as items has been renamed, moved or otherwise changed.

If you are using a mod, or plan to use one, TSF will mess around with settings other mods may be using. As such, creating a seperate mod folder for TSF is

a good idea. If you only plan to use TSF, then this step can be bypassed.

Go to your installation folder (Usually C:\Program Files\Thirdwire\Strike Fighters 2). Make a copy of Strike Fighters 2.exe / Strike Fighters 2 Europe.exe

depending on what you prefer and got installed. Name the Copy Strike Fighters 2 TSF.exe . Start your new .exe once, then close the game.

Now go to your Mod Folders. For Windows 7/Vista, this is located in C:\Users\Name\Saved Games\Thirdwire. For Windows XP Users, it is usually in My Documents.

Unzip the contents of the 7zip files "TSF2" into the mod folder of your choice. Allow any overwrites.

If you do not own Strike Fighters 2: North Atlantic, then unzip "Unzip if you do not have SF2: NA.7z". Read the Readme included and follow it to the letter.

If you own Strike Figthers 2 Expansion Pack 1, unzip Install if you have SF2 Israel Expansion Pack 1.7z". Allow any overwrites.

If you own DLC 008 J 34 Hawker Hunter, unzip "Install if you have DLC 008 J 34 Hawker Hunter.7z". Allow any overwrites.

(Please read the included Credits file. I could not do what I do without the lovely people who helped me by allowing me to use their work!)

First bug found. Woho -.-

Here is a fix, updating the main files as well.

Unzip into Mod Folder/Campaigns/OIB

https://www.dropbox.com/s/w7moo4drj2yz86u/OIB_DATA.rar

EDIT: New version submitted. Any version downloaded from this point will have the corrected file. If you downloaded before then, just use above fix if you even notice the bug.

Thank you very much to all Scandinavian Front team members! Indeed this is one of the most interesting campaign packages we have, it is as good as the ones eburger releases. BTW, Jonathan, I'm wondering what happened to the Suomenlahti Skirmishes campaign; I really liked the concept of a small, limited border conflict.

I actually removed it, since I felt the reason for creating it from the start was a bad one. The reason was that Mannerheims Shield was delayed and I wanted to introduce the Finnish Air Force in a separate light. With a large package, a quickly put together campaigned that just felt like disjointed single missions felt like a bad idea. I have not given up on the small, limited border conflict idea - and The Catalina Affair follows a similar formula - but I doubt the Skirmish Campaign will return in official shape, since my main concern was a sheer inability to win it. The best you can hope for is a stall.

You could however download the campaign and just copy the campaign. The assets are still there.

I might release more campaigns in the future; even without a Viggen but if so, they will be considered "Addons" and probably use existing Mega Package assets

Thank you for the zipped file. Even though we miss the Viggen a few campaigns in the 70s or 80s wouldn't hurt. But, well, you guys need some deserved rest after such a big release.

I noticed a while ago, when still playing the first TSF package, that some tiles in the Sweden terrain are wrongly rotated or were wrong in general (I guess it was due to autotexture in TW Terrain Editor). I made a lot of corrections in the TFD using Gerwin's tool, for personal use, but if I have permission from the TSF team, I would be glad to post it here.

We got all new tiles now, so I am quite sure Stary fixed that; but feel free to post it.

There would be very little reason to go into the 70s or 80s without a Viggen; At least if we are to involve Sweden (and that is kind of why I started the project). We replaced almost everything else with that aircraft.

I checked the terrain folder and no, Stary just added his new tiles, since the TFD is still the old one (dated 2011). This isn't my thread so I can't attach my file. I'll PM it to you.

yup I haven't modified it, the original Gillg's TFD and HFD are the ones included I think; and to be honest I can't say I encountered those wrongly rotated tiles -but if you have them fixed, feel free to post :ok:

for some odd reason my installation of TSF2 CTDs on launch when the modded MENU folder is in the installation, when I remove the menu it works ok (sans music, medals and screens)

however on my other low-end Dx9 system it works all-ok with the MENU folder

I only encountered such issues when I am running SweetFX and forgot to add SweetFX into the Menu folder...

Great mod.

I'm getting my arse handed to me by russians in the 2012 scenario but still trying to prevail. I don't know if I suck in modern environment or if Gripen's radar sucks.

By the way Robot anti-ship missile tends to explode before hitting anything... and lacks a propulsion animation. Or is it me?

The RB-15 is a Crusie Missile. As such, it can - and will - be shot down before reaching its target. It also has a very faint smoke trail; Ravenclaw had to point it out to me.

The 2012 Scenario is meant to be difficult. I have yet to hear about anybody actually winning it. It is based off a Swedish novel.

i made my test with the RB-15F not as  cruise missile (i dont have SF2NA) but as a CGR and i did not have any problems with it , if you try to go for the max distance , 70 km or 37,7 nm , it is possible that the missile hits the ground befor reaching the target  a expoding missile never happend to me

as for the propulsion animation , the RB-15F has French Microturbo TRI-60 engine not a rocket engine so the most you could see is a smoke trail if at all , this smoke trail effect is added to the missile

Well, I guess my missiles are shoot down by flak before hitting as they seem to explode in the flak field. I did not know this was possible. Probably a SF2:NA new feature.

By the way, was the swedish book translated into english?

Another question: is it possible to revert to standart effects?

yes, the close-in-weapons systems on ship (and also SAMs and other A-A misslies) can now target incoming missiles. Also, the Player can now target cruise missles (Phoenix vs AS-4, for example)

Ok, thanks.

BTW, huge and nasty bug playing Catalina Affair: Visby all of a sudden turned red in the 2nd mission, with soviet AAA spawing next to the airbase and shooting. Then, we moved... to a base in USSR. Said USSR went blue, too, whereas Sweden became red!

Annoying. I thought I had handled that bug. The wierd part is that I do not know what else I can do to prevent it. Placing out ground forces (the usual solution) would make the ships fight tanks on water.

I will see what I can do about it, but no promises.
