Retrograding A-7A Avionics Questions

Recommended Posts

The  A-7A Corsair II was introduced in 1967.

I'm thinking of retrograding the TW A-7A to somewhere between 1960-1965.

The A-7A was introduced with:

AN/APN-153 navigational radar

AN/APQ-115 terrain following radar

AN/APQ-99 attack radar

and RWR  (AN/APR-25 I think).

I don't know enough about avionics to know if these were available in the early '60s.

There were 6 hard points for bombs which I think are too many and I will probably remove a couple.

Any advice, especially on the avionics is appreciated.  Any ideas are welcome.

TIA,

I can verify that the  first "bulk" order (500 units) for the AN/APR-25 was placed by the USAF late in 1965, and by the USN shortly afterwords.  By late 1967, Applied Technology (the manufacturer) was banging out over 250 of them per month.

Thanks.   That's probably one piece of the avionics I need to remove.  Just need to figure out how and cover it in the cockpit.
