How do I convert Horse Power or Kilowatt into SLPowerDry=?

Recommended Posts

Hay guys,

How do you convert prop engine Horse Power or Kilowatt figures into a SLPowerDry= figure for SF2 Prop aircraft?

Cheers,

Dan.

A French Cheval-Vápeur (CV) is equivalent to 736 Watts or 0,736 Kw . A "british" HP  is equivalent to 1,014 french horse power....

I may remember this wrong, but I think in one of the Knowledge Bases there is a post with a link to a type of converter.

Sorry I don't remember better.

The SLPowerDry= figure is in newtons so how do we convert the HP or kw into newtons?

Engine power is measured in Newton for jet engines (the non-metric unit is Pound-force), so an A-4E Skyhawk with a 8500 lb-force engine has SLThrustDry=37809.9 in the sim.

But for prop aircraft it is measured in derived force (Watts, or horsepower in non-metric units).

So for prop engines 1000 hp is SLPowerDry= 745699.9 in SF units (Watts).

damn! it gets more confusing all the time!!!

why not find an aircraft with a similar engine (Merlin Mustang = Merlin Spit 9 -- close enough for government work -} and adjust from there?
