Wildest Dogfight I have ever had (Pics)

Recommended Posts

I was leading a flight of four F-14s ( I had fired all missles at a MIG-23 flight a few minutes before and was about to turn home , when ground control mentioned more enemy planes in the area), we then engaged a flight of MIG-21s, after a few turns, I almost had a mid air with a MIG-23 that came out of no where and a friendly F-4 in hot pursuit (we were not escorting we were on sweep). The sky is full of planes, the radio is off the hook with ?he?s on your tail? he is firing a missile? I?m hit ?I?m hit?all hell is breaking loose. I do not ever remember having 4 plane types, all dog fighting in a relatively small area in the game like this before. I realized I better pause and snap a few shots.

It was a massive MIGs up , like I do not remember before. What a cool game SF1 is.

You will see here all 4 plane types in one shot, A Mig-23 in the upper left, and inverted F-4, F-14s of course and a MIG-21 breaking hard to the right.

Here is the same scene as seen from the F-14 approaching the fur ball from the other side. Keep in mind that there are other planes not in view.

Finally here is my last kill of the engagement , a gun kill on the MIG-21,a few seconds after the first pictures were taken .

Man I wish TK would hurry up with that patch so we could let the others enjoy this. Pics like this just drive the need home.

If you want huge furballs try the F-14 missions uploaded a few days back, they are TK's (they came with the F-4J and A-4) but moddified to fly from carriers. The alpha strike is nuts, 20 or so Migs 8 F-4's and 16 A-4's.

BTW love the second shot, looks like something out of Top Gun with everyone so close

I tried to do something like that. Alas, I got a little overzealous.

Using the mission editor, I put 52 American fighters against 80 MiGs.

Would have been great. Except the game slowed down so much I thought I somehow tried playing it on my old Nintendo.

I think I need to scale back the fight some.

[edit]Please note that the screen capture is for the above mission, not the revised mission as described below.

Okay, so I scaled the mission back some. 14 American fighters against 20 MiGs (it's no fun if we're not outnumbered). It ran quite smoothly and we ran into the MiGs just as I planned. I might need to tweak the waypoints some so that the flights are a little more tightly grouped. The F-14s and F-16s didn't engage anybody, whereas the F-15s went winchester within the first five minutes of the engagement.

But at one point, I marvelled at how the AI seemed to know instinctively who to go after. I saw a MiG-15 being chased by an F-86, etc.

I myself only managed three kills. Kill #1 was against a MiG-17 with my gun. Kill #2 was against a MiG-28 with a Sparrow. Kill #3 was a head-on gun kill against a MiG-28. Alas, I was a bit too close the the -28 when I got him - he was still in one burning piece and we were headed straight at each other. Boom.

Anyone want me to submit this one after I've worked out some of the kinks?

The mission sounds cool, submit away. I would use a traditional MIG-21,23,29 instead of a fictional MIG-28 just so more people can get into it. My only suggestion..

I tossed them in to go with the F-14s, because I watched Top Gun yesterday. But you're right.

On the other hand, how often do F-86s and F-15s fly operational missions together? :p

I think the one I'm going to submit is going to have stock aircraft for convenience's sake.

Man submit what you want, why not both, the one you have now, that actually is starting to sound kinda cool and crazy (now that you mentioned the F-86 )and the other one...

Yeah, I just tossed in all my fighters into a ziploc bag and shook it. It was fun to watch the first run through, since the Sabres knew instinctively to go after the MiG-15s.

The F-14s, unfortunately, were oblivious to the MiG-21s coming at them from behind. And the F-15s used up all their missiles within 5 minutes.

It sure was gratifying to see a MiG-28 get shot down by an F-86, though.

Mcnally, a head's up on the Red Vs Blue, edit the file zip and place a read me in it explaining what planes you need. I just tried it and crashed and really don't know what I need to run it :)

Um... I'm reasonably sure everything in the RvB mission is stock. I'll place a readme in it with all the different aircraft, though.

[edit]Aha! Found the culprit. I had realized that the map the mission takes place on isn't stock so I tried changing it. Apparently the change didn't take.

[edit the second]Okay, new .zip is up. To make life easier, I just added the terrain in with the mission.

[edit the three]Yikes, I didn't know my upload rate was so craptacular. Uh... this is gonna take awhile. Check back in, like, an hour.
