Hi everyone

New on the forum, but I've been trawling the download section for quite a while haha.

I really really love how easy it is to mod the SF range, I've been screwing aroumd with .ini's and trying to figure out skins!

Soooooo, I'm South African, grew up around the military, my father was a lt Col. in the old SADF. I've pretty much exhausted all download links for SAAF content. What I'd like to ask is whether anyone has ANY more SAAF content or unfinished stuff or whatever, as long as it's South African.

I'd like to work on an Angola/SWA campaign as I have a bit of spare time before December.

Thanks

I am getting to work again on a "South African terrain" (Angola and Nambia [sW Africa]). I've been working on it for four years off and on.

The vast terrain variety and vast kilometers/miles needed for an Angolan terrain from orange desert, to white sand, to pink bush terrain to white bush terrain to orange bush terrain, to green river land to dense forest to mountain terrain has been a bugaboo for many modelers (including myself) I believe.  There just does not seem to be any easy way to model all this massive variety even half-way well.

However, I am going at it again and it feels much better this time around-my third attempt. My Photoshop/Gimp skills have much improved.

So, that's what I have to offer in the future.

Awesome, can't wait! Wish I could help.

Was there ever a single seat mk2 impala(MB-329K) released or a 2 seater Cheetah(D)?

A lot of the lower res pics I saw had the missiles painted orange, not sure if they were test missiles or actually painted like that for combat.

orange color are normaly test weapons , but the swedish air force uses the green color for training weapons maybe the SAAF did something similar by painting them orange in the early days

i have pictures showing the V3C training weapons in white color with blue stripes as it is standard in most of the western world

Well, orange was quite a patriotic colour in apartheid era South Africa, regarding that tan colour, most SADF weapons/vehicles were painted in dull/matte brown/khaki called nutria brown.

Great news!

I'm currently flying a "desert" scenery setup to mimic the Border war with the SAAF aircraft which are available. Eagerly looking forward to some more realistic scenery!

I'm also working on an overhaul of the Atlas Cheetah E which is in the download section with a more realistic darker blue grey and all new SAAF/5sqn/cheetah E decals. The ini file has also been reworked to load SA weapons as the stock V3B.

Can any of you help me with the location of the texture file for the intake weapon pylon? Is it from the Kfir? Currently it shows in light grey when it is selected and it would be great to get it painted in the same color as the rest.

Ravenclaw: Any chance for looking into the fuel/bomb carrier as used by the SAAF on all of the Cheetahs with 2 vertical bomb stations (not the French RPK-10)?

Hi,

I'll see what I can do, but as you know, info about SAAF weapon/stores are rather difficult to come by. They knew opsec..  The same tank/bomb carrier has been seen in use on all of the Cheetah models and I believe we can call it a standard store for both the C and E when armed up for ground strikes with dumb bombs.

To me it looks like the Cheetah fuel tank/bomb bomb used about the same measurement as the Mirage supersonic tank, but with Y fins at the rear.

After searching for "Cheetah C" on google and flickr, there are several showing the tank/carrier. I have included some links here. Not sure if it helps as I believe you wanted some more hard info.

I think it is worth checking the weapon packs, released in the past by the Mirage Factory and also stock weapons that come with SF2:I.

I would say the BFT type you are looking for is available as BFT for Kfir.

I will take a look later and confirm.

Thanks for the info! I just googled kfir and fuel/bomb tank and it shows several pics which looks similar to the tank used on the cheetah's. Next question, is it included in sf?

All in all not that strange as even the aircraft fuselages and wings on the cheetah c's and a few of the d's were remade from stripped down kfirs (sort of backwards to instal a smaller engine....).

Some Cheetah E texture wip shots:

Standard early A2A load of 2x V3B missiles

Armed with V3S. This missile was probably not carried by the Cheetah E, but highly likely if they had stayed in service past 1992.

Awesome!!!!

Now how about a 2 seater Cheetah D or a Cheetah R, think they only made one though.

Why I mention the Cheetah R is because it had the Advanced Combat Wing(ACW)

I'm coming over from the MS FSX world and my SF2 skills is just for the external paint and decals. Currently I'm fighting with SF2 to try to get the Kfir BFT and griffin LGB to show up under the weapon stations... I can get the V3B, V3S, V4 A2A missiles to show up, but no luck with the replacement of the mirage supersonic tank and bomb fuel tank combo (the Cheetah did not use the standard mirage tank or BFT, but the Kfir supersonic tank with y fins and the kfir 2 bomb BFT). Is there any other entries than the weapon station sections in the aircraft data file I need to change?

The Cheetah R might be possible to duplicate by some of the more talented people in this forum, but it will include making the new nose and wing. A lot of work for a one off project which never went into production or service. The D will need a complete new model I think. All in all a lot of work and we will probably see none of them even if the D would be very welcome as it was the "original" cheetah.

At least we have the original single seater Mirages and the Cheetah C and E.

You'll need to modify the aircraft data.ini file for the pylons? You'd have to change the fuel tank type in the weapons section of the data file.

Have you created a weapons folder containing the .LOD,.OUT and ini files for the fueltank/multiple ejection rails and then setup the aircraft data files as I've said above?

There is a Kfir TC version out, so you could probably replace the nose on the C with the TC's via fakepilot method, I'm actually buy trying to do that, I just don't really know how to skin the model.

Sorry didn't read your full post, you might need to change the nationality of the weapons you're using to include South Africa not just Israel
