I thought it might be difficult to make a Continuation War install without A-Team assets, but I've done it. Since both Finland and USSR used aircraft from other nations, it creates some interesting matchups.

I'm using JonathanRL's terrific Sweden terrain and many of Veltro's and Raven's aircraft. I made lots of new skins build this. There's a few compromises. Pasko's Yak-9P is standing in for earlier Yaks, but it's a very close facsimile. The Sweden terrain is modern, but it still fits nicely in this scenario. Here's a video I made from the install.

If folks are interested, I could post the entire install.

Hey bring it on! Do you have an ETA for a release?

I don't like to discourage creativity, but the terrain doesn't look all that convincing to me.

Finland was all forests and lakes, this modern Swedish terrain looks much too open and developed to me.

I think it needs a different tileset.

And the aircraft set looks a bit unconvincing (Yak-9P doesn't look much like a Yak-1, and the Handley Page Hampden in an RAF scheme??).

Yep but a far better for the majority of us here at CA ..

For the Aircraft & Ground Objects I've found some by Geezer in the make for his FE2 Spanish Civil War mod which could be easily ported to this one when ready.

For the terrain we've here, all the specialists to make a new proper one ...

Keep up the good work ShrikeHawk !

Nice video, BTW.

You might want to check your history, though, the video intro says: "The USSR attacked Finland again after losing the Winter War from 1941 to 1944."

I don't know if this is meant to mean that the Winter War went from 1941 to 1944, or that the Soviets attacked all that time, but either would be wrong.

The USSR won the Winter War in 1940, by grinding the Finns down, they didn't lose it. Finland survived, but the Finns were forced to give up substantial territory, more than the USSR had demanded before the Winter War started. Essentially the whole of what became known as Soviet Karelia.

And the USSR did not attack at all from 1941 until 1944. They were rather busy at that time fighting off people called the Germans, at Moscow, Stalingrad, Kursk etc.

It was the Finns who attacked in 1941, to recover territory they had lost in 1940.

The USSR only attacked Finland in 1944, when it had the Germans on the run, in a short offensive which led to the September 1944 armistice and Finland's exit from the war.

As you might guess from my signature block I like the A-Team Finland Mod a lot - terrain, aircraft and campaigns.

It is always good to see new work, but this new Mod will need to be pretty good to even come close to the A-Team version.

Thanks Guys. Much appreciated.

Upload will be ready in two weeks. (soon anyway).

I knew there would be criticism.

I can't do much about the terrain. That's not my specialty. This Swedish terrain is still gorgeous and more Scandinavian-looking than anything else I know of.  If there's a better Non-DAT choice out there, I'd be happy to hear about it.

The Hampden was placed in use by the Soviets with minimal repainting. They simply replaced the roundel with the red star (see below).

Regarding the Yak, it's important to understand the difference between the Yak-1 and the Yak-1B. In this install I have the Yak-1B, which is virtually indistinguishable from the Yak-9D (see below).

Yak-1

Yak-1B

Yak-9D

post-26185-0-10681000-1463276773.jpg

Why does the Yak-1B look nearly identical to the Yak-9D? Because it is. The Yak-9D used the same airframe design, same engine, same armament. The Yak-9D differed by employing different materials. It was much lighter.

The primary difference between the early Yaks (Yak-1B, Yak-9D) and the later ones (Yak-9U, Yak-9P) was the latter models lacked a chin radiator. Wing and tail surfaces, and 95% of fuselage appeared identical. That's visually very, very, very close IMHO.

I just learned the A-Team has recently released a Winter War install that uses no substitutes. For those with "Dual-Site Nirvana" that's great news. I just downloaded Winter War and will be happy that I have it. I'm trying to think of everyone, though. Not all enjoy dual-site access, and I would like everyone to enjoy this battle as much as I do. I've wanted this build since waaaaaaay back in the CFS2 days. It's a fascinating piece of history. I think it's important and fun to share this, even if imperfect.

Big job, thanks for this mod ShrikeHawk.

I have found that if I fly for the Finns I will be flying from a Soviet airbase to bomb Finland, and if I'm flying for the Soviets I will be flying from a Finnish or Swedish airbase to bomb Russia. This was a bit disconcerting, so I have made a quick and dirty mod for the Sweden terrain in this Continuation War mod, changing the Alignment= tag for each town and airbase. Finnish towns and airbases are now ENEMY, and Soviet ones are FRIENDLY. I also made all the Swedish towns and airbases Alignment=NEUTRAL, as they were at this time.

So now all your missions will be between Finland and the Soviet Union/Baltic States, from Finland if you are flying for the Finns and from the Soviet Union or Baltic States if you are flying for the Soviets. I also changed the terrain name in terrain INI file to be Baltic States WW2, to distinguish it from the original Cold War Sweden terrain.

Just copy these enclosed three INI files to the Sweden terain folder in your Continuation War Mod (backing up the originals first, in case you want to revert to the originals).

Just a small mod, but it makes the missions much more realistic for me to have them flying from and targeting the right places.

you might find solace in knowing I have already working beta of new Sweden tileset in the works. No certain ETA though -somewhere this autumn perhaps? But I'd really want to wait for Mue's custom TODs editor to make it even more appealing cities wise
