Angola/South West Afrika Terrain Beta

I know everyone here has been waiting for a Border War terrain and have been salivating over the few screen shots released over the years... The wait is over!

This terrain is a Massive terrain covering most of South West Afrika with the Caprivi Strip, as well as Almost all of Angola as well as much of Botswana, some of Zambia and a small portion of the Congo. It is meant to cover the entirety of the Border War Conflict between FAPLA, SWAPO and the SADF, UNITA and SWADF. The Terrain covers many types of environments from the Skeleton Coast to the wetlands to the great plains and Bush of Ovomboland. This is meant to be a truly African terrain to fly the assortment of South African Air Force birds available here at CA.

This terrain was truly a team effort that started a few years ago and has passed through many hands along the way. The terrain was originally started by Centurion 1 and Coupi back in the 2013ish time frame and has been held and slowly worked on by a dedicated team here at CA comprised of but not limited to...

Stratos, Ludo.m54, Jeanba, Pualopanz, Coupi, recently me Spudknocker and even more recently tiospilotos...

I have brought together all of the pieces left behind by Centurion 1 and others and brought the terrain up to a playable and very fun level to share here at CA.

This really is a BETA release to show everyone what we have been working on! If you have any suggestions or want to help out with this project feel free to PM me, Coupi or Jeanba!

I could not have done so without Mue's AMAZING target area editor, Gerwin's FANTASTIC TFD tool and last but not least Wrench's incredible wealth of strike fighters knowledge.

Also included here with the terrain are several SAM's modified slightly from the original SF2 SAMs package for use by Angola as well as a stand in Impala MkII and SAAF Alouette III helicopter.

More SAAF and FAPLA related skins and aircraft will be released shortly!

Thanks for everyone's support here at CA and everyone's patience in waiting for this terrain.

It works, Typhoid. Try using the latest version of 7-Zip or WinRAR.

      Hi everyone,
I'm trying to recreate the 1st Gulf of Sidra Incident with my F-14A Tomcats and my Su-22M3 Fitters, doing it extremely historically accurate, paying attention to every little detail.
So far i've done everything, and it's almost identical to the real one, but there's ONE issue i can't figure out, let me explain:
During the morning of the 19th of August 1981 two F-14A Tomcats intercepted two Libyan Su-22M3 Fitters in the Gulf of Sidra.
The Fitters were equipped with two AA-2 "Atoll".
Just before the merge, while nose-to-nose, one of the two Fitters fired a missile to one of the two Tomcats, but being the missile a very old and primitive heatseeker, it started tracked and going for the Tomcat, but as soon as the F-14 made a slight break, the Atoll lost its track.
      The PROBLEM IS:
There's no way i can make the Fitters shoot the missiles before merging, if only the AA-2, or any other equippable missile was all-aspect or radar guided just like the R-23, i think it would work.
I tried having a head-on merge with two Mig-23 Floggers equipped with radar guided R-23s and they shot at me before merging.
I tried all other available missiles and nothing changed, some didn't show either.
I tried copying and pasting the Data file from the Aim-7 to the R-60 Data file, and nothing changed.
I tried changing the loadout file to R-23, but the Fitters show up without any weapon since there's no R-23 option in loadout for Su-23M3s, so i think it's not possible to have them (and would be historically inaccurate too).
I tried changing enemy difficulty from Normal to Hard, but nothing changes still.
The only thing the Fitters do is shooting their guns just before the merge, but no missiles are fired when nose-to-nose.
Is there a way to fix this? A way i can make my Fitters fire at least one of their missiles when we're nose-to-nose, just like when i got nose-to-nose against Floggers equipped with R-23s?
Is it a problem with the enemy AI? Or with the missiles? Or maybe even with the Su-22M3 Fitter i'm using?
Thank you very much for helping me

View File Mirage F1CR standard F5/6
      Mirage F1CR F5/6 standard
When it became clear that the Mirage F1 was becoming a successful production aircraft, Dassault began investigating the possibility of a dedicated reconnaissance version for its most important client, the French Air Force. However, the escalating cost of fighter aircraft meant that add-on pods for this purpose were a more economical alternative. Many French Air Force aircraft, as well as those of some export clients (such as Iraq's Mirage F1EQ), did indeed have a variety of reconnaissance pods available, which were attached to the underside of the main fuselage. However, the development of a tactical reconnaissance aircraft for the French Air Force continued, and the first Mirage F1CR flew on 20 November 1981.
      F1CR F5/F6 standard specifics:
      Corail gondolas (P0 station)
RWR BF double wingtip position lights Thomson CSF RAPHAEL TH SLAR Side Looking Aiborne Radar Recon Pod (P1 Id on AMCP) ASTAC (Analyseur de Signaux TACtiques) ELINT pod (P3 Id on AMCP This addon is and will in all cases remain freeware.
