I got the latest SFP1 patch (oct2008) so I can make some SF2 planes work (some already work when the game was unpatched, but not getting into all that), but now whenever I try to fly, the game crashes and I get an error message. I keep getting a prompt saying "d3dx9_31.dll is missing" and I have no idea what that means.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX

It's just a Microsoft API that is often needed to run games. Just Google "download directx 9 and you should find a link for it.

You shouldn't have to re-install the game to install DirectX 9.

downloaded Directx 9. Says it's already been downloaded. still crashes with same error

CRentzell95,

What operating system are you running?

If you are running Windows 7, look in C:\Windows\System32 for d3dx9_31.dll.

If it's not there, get a copy and put it in that folder.

If the game works after that, fine.  If not...

Try copying it to C:\Windows\SysWOW64 if you are running a 64-bit WIndows.

Good luck,
