Photo or not, I read the article and it never says that it was used during the Spanish Civil War. This aircraft entered service in May 1939 with the Italian Regia Aeronautica, and it was just a prototype in 1938! Its predecessor, the Fiat CR.32, was employed during the Spanish Civil War, instead.

According to this wiki, the CR.42 was acquired at a later time by the Spanish Air Force, which used it until 1948: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_CR.42#Operational_history

Spain never used the Cr.42, we never bought them or used.

You're right, Wikipedia gets things wrong from time to time. No reliable sources to confirm that claim. Someone better fix it!

BTW, the photo linked by Wilches is fake, it has been photoshopped so badly... :bad:

Thanks for the research guys. I have some SCW dedicated books and they never says a word about the CR42. At a first glance the photo looks real but with a keen eyes it shows traces of photoshopping. Case closed!
