January 13th, 2019 (1st Release)
by Menrva

>For Strike Fighters 2 games
This is my sky enhancement mod. It also combines the work of many other modders, in order to provide a realistic, better looking sky. Here below a quick summary of the changes:
-Tweaked sky colours, something in between Cellinsky's widesky and the stock SF2 colours.
-More realistic Night colours, sky and ambient are much darker.
-More atmospheric, reddish transition from Twilight to Night.
-New "dark blue" High Altitude colours (fly near space with a NF-104).
-Moon produces a yellowish light instead of the default purple.
-Sky is "wider" much like Cellinsky's widesky mod (background horizon clouds are bigger and more noticeable).
-Added beautiful cloud graphics made by Cellinsky and ShrikeHawk, tweaked for each weather type.
-Added a low number of stray clouds to Clear weather.
-Added noticeable clouds to Overcast weather and Inclement weather, "fixing" a known SF2 "bug".
-Combined various mods to produce a more interesting Rain Effect under Inclement weather.
-Added Stary's lens flare effects from the SARCASM 2 mod, in place of Cellinsky's widesky effects.
-Added Cloud Layer graphics by Stary, Fubar512 and Brain32.
-Reworked secondary atmospheric effects, such as contrails and wingtip vortexes.

In addition, the package includes alternative environment configuration files; they enable different effects for the Inclement weather. You can choose between thunderstorm (default, adapt for most terrains), snowstorm (for cold, icy terrains) and sandstorm (for hot, desert terrains).
For those who wish not to change the effect globally, I highly suggest to try the included terrain-specific environment files, provided for both stock terrains and custom ones I released; the default global effect is thunderstorm, while terrains with their own environment file either use sandstorm or snowstorm as appropriate. Use this as a basis to customize other terrains.

It's recommeded to set the game's Effects to High in the Options menu. By setting the Effects to Unlimited, the game uses a pointless DirectX 10 post processing effect; the stock game's post processing shader generates a horrible bloom effect which excessively blinds the player during Twilight transitions. I have included an alternative post processing shader (TWPOSTPROCESS.FX) which provides more contrast, minor color correction and a daytime-only bloom effect, so it's miles better than what the stock game offers. However, if you want to gain more FPS, it's better not to play the game with Effects set to Unlimited.

>Credits (in no particular order):
-Cellinsky, for his fantastic widesky mod from which I borrowed some tweaks.
-Stary, for his Thunderstorm and Heavy Snowfall weather mods, and his SARCASM 2 beta mod from which I borrowed some effects.
-PanamaRed, for tweaks in regards to Clouds (especially the Broken weather ones).
-Fubar512 and Brain32, for their Cloud Layer Top bitmaps, which I have smoothed for a better looking effect.
-ShrikeHawk, for his CloudSkins mods, from which I took the spectacular cloud graphics.
-BearGryllis, for his Thunderstorm Pack With Enhanced Lightnings 2.0b package.
-Orsin, for his Improved Rain Effect and Heavy Rain 0.8 mods.
-luk1978, for his interesting WeatherEffect package.
-ArmedLightning, for his Special FX v2.2 mod for the GTR 2 game, from which I borrowed a lens flare effect.
-baffmeister, for the idea of recreating sandstorm weather effects.
-tiopilotos, for suggesting improvements on other subjects.
-Eagle114th, for his Improved Wingtip Vortex mod which I have reworked.
-JosefK, guuruu and Coupi, for their interest and support.

I included the original readme files from the mentioned mods, where available, to the end of giving proper credit to everyone involved directly or not.

This is a freeware; yet it can be redistributed ONLY in other CombatACE mods/mod packages.

At this point, I couldn't imagine SF2 w/o it.  It's like Real Environment Xtreme for SF2.

@Stratos Hey, no worries mate, I wasn't in a hurry. I just tagged you because I have no idea who else could approve it. AFAIK the other admins and moderators are American chaps who must be sleeping by now due to timezones.

      Dear Friends,

Autumn has arrived in Moscow and Las Vegas and even thought the air temperature is dropping, our work pace is heating up fast. Work on our new cloud tech continues and is making rapid progress. We will make many different “cloud patterns” over time as we mentioned previously, but right now we are trying to create some quality cloud designs that we can put into Beta testing and fulfill the minimum designs needed to get you up and flying with them sooner rather than later. Please enjoy these screenshots and prepare to get lost in them!

Work on the forthcoming P-51B continues and I really wanted to show you a shot of the cockpit with textures, but they aren’t quite ready for public viewing yet. But rest assured that the P-51B work is going hot and heavy. I am “encouraging” Mike as much as possible to get her done.
So, we can’t show you the P-51B cockpit at the moment, but how about some shots of the Mosquito instead! As you can see, it’s taking shape and looking nice! Like our other British birds this one also has a busy cockpit that when finished will be nothing but Royal Air Force awesomeness!

Testing on the new AQMG is progressing well and it should be released in our next update as mentioned last week. The Breguet 14 is also entering its final stages of tweaking before release as well. Work on the next update overall is going quite well so we expect a smooth release of 4.605 this month as planned.

There has also been some good news with some research endeavors Jason has working on. If all goes well It may bring a new warbird to our skies. One that many of you have asked for. Stay tuned for more on that.

And as mentioned by Jason in his recent Briefing Room post we have two Collector Tanks being worked on by our friends at DigitalForms and we will announce those very soon.

      Enjoy!

      Dear Friends,

In today’s DD we want to show you some screens featuring our new cloud technology and renderer. We have been working on new clouds for a few months and we now have some WIP results we can show you. As you can see, they look more natural and have more variety and are larger than our previous clouds. They also have localized rain showers and react well with the lighting creating a beautiful scene. While other teams out there have more resources than we do to make amazing clouds, our new clouds are the work of just two motivated people on the Sturmovik Team (Sergey and Isay). And soon we’ll be working with community member and friend rowdyb00t who has previously made some cool cloud mods with our current technology. This new cloud technology has great potential and of course it will take some artistic talent to make it look it’s best. They should also offer better visuals with no loss of performance over the current technology, at least that’s what we see in early testing.

We think you’ll like these new clouds and we’ll work to get these to you as soon as we can. The technology is being perfected as we speak and we will begin work on making the new cloud content shortly. Then they will go into testing with release hopefully in a few months.

      Enjoy!

      DISCLAIMER
      ----------
This is a third party add on of the F-117A using a model
      and cockpit created by me.
The original flight model was made by Fubar512 but modified
      by me.
It is designed for and works in the SF2 series of games.
      VERSION NOTES
      -------------
This package is as close as I could get to representing the
F-117A in service with the USAF at the time of Operation
      Desert Storm.
There are some parts which I have compromised the detail
on or removed all together in order to achieve an acceptable
level of detail without reducing game performance or increasing
      development time.
An example of this is the arrestor hook. The real F-117A has a door
that jettisons when the hook is deployed. I have modelled the
door to open and close so consequently, the hook is retractable.
Animation Key #1 to open/close the refuel door.
Animation Key #2 to extend/retract the COMM and NAV antennas.
Animation Key #10 to open/close the canopy.
Weapon bay doors are automatic on weapon release.
Brake chute will only deploy while on the ground, below 100kts and
      with the airbrake extended.
The ejection seat included in this package comes from ravenclaw's
ACES II Ejection Seat for A-10 vers. 1.0 so all the credit goes
      to him.
The original package is available for download from:
      http://combatace.com/files/file/12472-aces-ii-ejection-seat-for-a-10/
      INSTALLATION
      ------------
Very simple, extract the files from the archive to your
      C:\Users\*NAME*\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 folder.
      Next,
You will need to add the following to your Squadronlist.ini
file which should be in your Flight AND Pilot Data folders.
This is so the Unit Names show up. (*NOTE* This is not
essential). Make sure the XXX is replaced with the next
number in sequence in your file:
      [SquadronXXX]
      Name=415TFS
      DisplayName=415th TFS Nightstalkers
      Nation=USAF
The 416th TFS should already be in your Squadronlist.ini, but
      if not, add the following:
      [SquadronXXX]
      Name=416TFS
      DisplayName=416th TFS Silver Knights
      Nation=USAF
*NOTE* If you do not have a Squadronlist.ini file in your Flight
folder you will need to extract it from the MissionData001.CAT
file in your Flight folder using the CatPack utility.
      That's it.
You will need Diego's MODUSAF pilot skin for the pilot,
or you can use whatever skin you like by editing the
      F-117A_Data.ini file.
      REMOVAL
      -------
      Reverse the above steps.
      CREDITS
      -------
Aircraft, Cockpit, Skins, Decals and .ini work - Me
FM - Fubar512 (with some modifications by me)
      ACESII Ejection seat - ravenclaw
      Pilot skin - Old Diego
      Testing - The ODS team
      THANKS
      ------
A MASSIVE thanks to Crusader for all his very useful
reference material and support without which this package
      could not exist!
Thanks to all on the forum for their continuing and always
      useful support.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I have had making it.
      Dels
