Gents, during the 60s and for many years the US sent many high altitude reconnaissance baloons to east asia spying soviet activities. Russians employed the aging Tu-128 Fiddler to intercept them, but its success were very polemic. My point is - Could it be reproduced in SFP2?

Those are just weather balloons.

Probably not due to the weak sauce weather engine that doesn't allow for varying wind speeds at different altitudes.  Higher altitudes have higher wind speeds and this thing called a jetstream.

Otherwise yeah, sounds like a fun mission to take a Russian interceptor out for a spin.

Recon balloons were rare. Propaganda ballooning was a common thing in the 50th and 60th. The balloons should drop leaflets, but mostly failed.

For interception Yak-11 planes were used.
