no worries, latest post looks great

this holiday season, it might be wise to get a new 1 or 2 TB external HD. then save at least the installation files for everything you use regularly in a folder. its what i did to switch from my laptop from the last 5 years to my new desktop. was back up and running in a day for most of the stuff.

now rebuilding my mod folders, by actually focusing them on specifc regions, eras and aircraft types........

well the test install is going. the rest might take a couple of years ....:lol:

Had some free time today so I started earlier about 2 hours of work. used some of my old work to add to the model full tank, main machine gun, and some other things too.

Almost completed with the model about 85 % I should be completing it by the end of this week and maybe work on the UV on the weekend.

You're absolutely correct. I did that on purpose as I would like to do the uvw mapping first, then I'll do a copy of it,  and the same thing goes for the Wheel Shock observant and driver mirror. :wink:

much closer to the mark, and good for a factory fresh track. of course in country theyd have a tannish or red-brownish tint from the dirt and mud.

for desert storm, it varies. some vehicles were still green. a few (24th Mech comes to mind) got painted before going over. a lot got painted in theater. the ones painted in country seem to be the "whitest" og the tan vehicles, perhaps to make sure the green didnt show through.

little off-topic but again this comes to my mind...as you speak about colors.

We could use CA-color standard, a sort of reference with common colors that modders could pick. Then we can have standardized colors for particular armies, air forces. As for now, we have dozens of Euro-1, SEA not to mention RAF patterns, etc. each differs from the other in color saturation. 

 

That is what I am doing in my own install if I have access to free time and templates.

its a nice idea, but impractical one because mix ups through history  create non standard mix ups (look as SEA Phantoms in the 70s with the pale green in place of tan on some, the mismatch colors on C-5s in the early 90s, faded paints all over when budgets were tight)

also an issue , the modders themselves. present a complete system to a hundred modders and 70 will declare it good. 5 will explain why its not in their opinion. 25 will say nothing. of those 70, 15 will actually use it. 3 will ask a year later if there is such a system. and five will not like it, and do theyre own.

best bet is to refer as much as possible to FS 595 (the US governments color guide), RAL (color guide for the european colors) and whatever such guide there is for the Russian birds. to boot, if you were to say google "FS36081 hex" youd get the number to plug into PS or Gimp for use ( 5b5e5f for my example).

i know there is such a guide for FS 595 with the color and the hex and RGB values. pretty sure theres one for RAL as well

 

back on topic, those look great GKABS. had me worried on the first pic of tan, but the wrap up looks good

Thank you, gentlemen, for your feedback and for sharing your ideas and knowledge with me. I have found this on the net, code I use it as a stander color? or maybe one of you gentlemen can suggest to me the two colors for green and tan. to set them as my stander color for my models to come.

      Notes about the installer
      Beware, the mod is available only in the ISO format. You can either mount it on a virtual drive, burn it on a DVD like in the good old days, or unzip it with 7-Zip or equivalent software.
      The installer will automatically detect your installation of the required Strike Fighters 2 games by reading through the registry keys. Game folders that are copied from or manually moved from where they were originally installed are not supported. You need all three aforementioned Strike Fighters 2 games and they must be installed with ThirdWire's original installers, not manually copied from other sources nor moved elsewhere after installation to other folders or drives. If you do not meet any of these requirements, installation cannot proceed and you are on your own. If you install all required games properly, the installation of the mod will proceed correctly as intended. The installer then lets you choose where to install the mod folder; you can even install the mod on a different drive or partition than the one where Strike Fighters 2 is installed. You need a Vulkan-compatible GPU. The wrapper can greatly improve the experience with the mod. With DXVK I can play the mod on a mere Intel UHD 710, whereas without it the mod would always crash to desktop. Go to Sound and set Sound Channels to 32. We got reports that 16 is not enough and will cause crashes on some systems, due to the higher quality sounds included within the mod. The mod is pretty heavy for the game engine despite huge optimizations. Strike Fighters 2's engine is 32bit only and apparently does not manage VRAM properly; consecutive campaign missions might show black/missing textures on objects or cause crashes to desktop because the game does not release the occupied VRAM from the previous mission you played, thus the more missions are loaded consecutively, the more easily you may run out of memory. Set Ground Objects to Medium or Low, Horizon Distance to Near, and Shadows to Medium or Low. These are the most troubling settings. Avoid Unlimited settings as much as possible. If the mod used to work and suddenly crashes to desktop, updating or reinstalling video drivers should help.
