Yeah that's the hard truth I think too.

I know im no one to talk but compared to other flight games this seems like a shot in the foot. Jane's Fighter Anthology was able to give you a lot more content and online play years ago. Is the physics engine of SF2 that hard to make compatible with any sort of basic online play? It would give quite a lot of new life to the game and the playerbase.

The physics engines of SF2 (and FE2) aren't really the reason why online play is impossible in the TW sims. See this response by JonathanRL to a thread we had going a few yrs. ago regarding the possibility of multiplayer in FE2 (https://combatace.com/forums/topic/88806-thoughts-on-multiplayer-in-fe2/?tab=comments#comment-717069). In short, the network libraries required for online play in the TW sims are no longer a part of Windows (as of Win7, possibly even earlier - most likely XP was the last to include the needed network libraries). The TW sims (first gen.) never contained "built-in" online capability, instead harnessing external Windows libraries.

Happy flying (in single-player),

Von S

That's right, Wings was using "Direct Play". This was part of Directx at the time but later removed. It was quite buggy as well. I think TK is not a network specialist but rather focussing on the sim...

The main limit to any computer game no matter the age is simply the resource required (time and money) to code features or update old code.

The reason Thirdwire left Multiplayer out of SF2 IIRC according to them was that so few played MP they/he felt it wasn't worth doing.

Many over the years have said SF2 would be this and that with MP but TK didn't agree so there you go.

Of course. Everyone knows when your niche hardcore community tells you what would be better not going with it because you disagree is the best course of action.

Try the ability to play more than a few missions without the graphics stopping to load.

I have a Nvidia card.

Now that you mentioned, my new rig is fairly decent but i just got quite low FPS in a campaign with SAMs, bad weather and a lot of aircraft in the air

Man, I'm really wanting to pull the trigger on this. The only problem is, I now have Stage 3 Heart Failure and I'd hate to have someone find me dead with my stick in my hand.

Well, I did it! I spent the money on the whole package. I'm so glad I didn't spend almost $40 on SF2 NA. It only has one Tomcat and a Corsair II. I think it's well worth it to get SF2 in all versions. I really miss playing WOV. Now, what's up with that non-steering nose wheel thing? I can't believe I actually got the Tomcat back on the deck on the first try! I got a lot of practice with US Navy Fighters back in the day. I forgot to check if the glove vanes work. I will have to check if DLC is modeled. I got up to Mach 1.74 @ FL270 while intercepting a MiG-23 with a big ASM on board. I had to get close because I didn't think to load the Phoenix.

There is still that bingo Fuel problem but, I have a theory on that. I'm thinking I need to wait for the pack to catch up because they burn all of their fuel trying to gather up. I'm having bingo calls while I still have external fuel.

Well, we will say you died with your boots on. And nothing but the boots. If you had been there at the time or the lazercats and electric eels, this was the shitpost community before it was cool.

The other guys drop the tanks as soon as they engage by default, even if it is a heavy on BVR. Let them bitch, chances are they will have to row the way home anyways after they decide to not fire their missiles and duel Soviet bomber tail-gunners.

I know the admins might put on their butt kicking boots for this but any chance to pass the complete installer along?

Also im sorry about the heart thing. Any chance of recovery/transplant?

Darude:

are you out of your mind??? how stupid are you asking for copyrighted software on an open forum?? We hid your original post, asking for someone to pirate the installers to you; and we just thought that it was a one time brain fart. I guess we were wrong. Same behavior I see on the FB group, too.

I'm handing this off. You're done here

No!

No!

I had to wait 6 months to save up enough to get the package. Add to that, me buying SF2 Europe to determine if it would run on my system. I think you should do the same.

So, I've learned how to fly successful missions using hard fuel settings. I guess the sim models fuel load effects. I've started waiting until the entire wing is up before going to cruising speed. It takes minutes for number four to lift off but, if I pull up on the runway, I can get them all in position so it doesn't take so long. Now, I have to figure out what to use to attack enemy battle groups at sea. I don't think using GBUs to sink ships is going to be productive. I can't believe this oversight. No Harpoons? Really?

Discussion on actual game play should be confined to the Regular Forums (tm). These threads are about the Complete Set, not how to play it.

BTW, AGM-84A, C & D have been part of the game since day 1. Extact your WeaponsData.ini and examine it

Does anyone know if Thirdwire are still offering the complete set?

Thanks.
