Operation Desert Storm: 30th Anniversary Edition

Mod installed fine, detected my SF2 (with all DLCs patched to July 2013), I verified that the mod installed correctly by going to the relevant Saved Games mods folder.  But I get a CTD as soon as I launch the .exe. Oddly enough installing this mod also somehow corrupted my NF5 install by means that I cannot really understand. After installing ODS, NF5 also crashes as soon as I launch it. Stock SF2 (including Vietnam, NA, Europe, Israel etc) works fine though. I'm using an i5 12600K with 32gb RAM and an RTX 2060 Super running on Windows 11.

Something else must have happened because the ODS installer does not overwrite nor touch anything (no other mod folders, no settings nor registry keys) by any means. The issue you're having with NF5 is definitely unrelated. I suppose it's more related with Win11 or any system updates. What the ODS installer does is installing a clean, brand new mod folder and adding related link and a renamed executable for it to work soon after installation. It shouldn't CTD as soon as you run it, if that happens something else must have gone wrong. I wish I could help more but I'm on Win10 and I cannot get a clear picture of what went wrong on your end.

I can't figure out what went wrong either. Everything is where it should be, like I said mod installed perfectly. The NF5 issue might be related in some way, since it was working fine before installing ODS but after I installed ODS both NF5 and ODS CTD as soon as I run the executable. Stock SF2 still works fine so the problem only persists with modded installs, I'll try to manually reinstall NF5 later today and see if it starts working again.

I managed to get both NF5 and ODS to run. Here's how I did it:

 

Uninstalled ODS completely. Checked NF5. Still didn't work. Deleted NF5. Made new shortcut for NF5 using SF2NA exe,  reinstalled NF5. NF5 started working. Then I reinstalled ODS, installed fine but same problem. It would CTD as soon as I run it. So I deleted the ODS .exe, made a new shortcut for it using SF2NA, launched it and lo-and-behold ODS started working!

 

I still can't figure out what the problem was, but at least both mods are working now.

@strahi I don't understand what your post is about. Is it an improved skin for one of the tanks in the mod? It's not needed anymore as next version of ODS 30AE will feature brand new tanks exclusively made by yakarov79.

Yes, it's a correct skins for Type 59/69 hull, my vision, as you know, old models and we need a new one.

This mod looks positively mouth-watering, but I´m running into some issues with crashes and the like. I am working on those still, lowering settings here and there.

But there is one thing I don´t think lowering settings will help me with: mission start time. I´m afraid that starting a CAS mission at five in the morning on an A-10, when it is pitch-black and I can´t see past my cockpit is... a bit too much of a challenge. Is there any way to change mission start time?

Hmmm...Win 8? Didn't you get a free upgrade to Win 10? I am not sure how stable Win 8 is...

@Viper63a Like I said above, we already replaced those tank 3d models with brand new detailed ones made by our great colleague @yakarov79.

We're slowly working on a pretty substantial update for the ODS 30AE mod. Viper, if you wish to help with the update, just say so, send me a PM and we'll meet in the restricted forum. I could use some help on remaking skins for other low-poly objects, as well as aircraft cockpits.

Hi! When I launch the OperationDesertStorm.exe im getting a CTD when the "Initializing" screen appears :/ Im having a laptop but im using dedicated gpu and its powerful enough to run the mod (gtx960m) I dont know what causes the problem... :/ (I have every dlc and using the latest patch)

Having troubles with install.   The setup app asks to "please insert disk 1 and click OK".  The Path is shown correctly below.  pointing to C:\Users\Norman Lathrop\Downloads\ODS_30AE 

That folder contains:

INSTALLE.EXE

INSTALL3.BIN

INSTALL2.BIN

INSTALLE.BIN

AUTORUN.INF

GOODIES (FOLDER)

These were extracted from the ODD_30AE.ISO file 

When I click "OK" the get an eoor message. "The file "INSTALLE-1a.bin" could not be located in "C:\Users\Norman Lathrop\Downloads\ODS_30AE". Please insert the correct disk or select another folder."

I've used three dirrent apps it open the *.ISO file and none of then extract a file named "INSTALL-1a.bin"

any ideas?

I think you have a corrupt/incomplete downloaded .ISO file or the tool you used to extract the .ISO messed up badly. There's no such thing as installe.exe and installx.bin files. Inside the .ISO you should find the following (check screenshot):

The completely downloaded file weighs 3.47 GB. The ISO does not need to be extracted, you can mount it directly on a virtual drive if you're on Win10 or Win11 (more details here: How to mount ISO images on Windows 10 | Windows Central). If you really want to unpack it, you should use the latest available version of 7-Zip.

The crash is due to SF2 being a 32 bit app and thus is limited in how much memory it can use (regardless of how much memory your machine has). Try going into the graphics settings and reduce the various texture size setting, that will reduce the memory usage and should help.
