Hi all gents,

I've just finished a customized VF-31 skin for the TMF F-14A_82 that I'll use in Campaign, edited the necessary lines in the Campaign Data.ini but for some reason don't start as default texture despite I can easily select from the dropdown menu in the loadout screen.Any Help?

Name=VF-31 "Tomcatters" '86
Nation=USN

Glossiness=0.750000
Reflection=0.000000
DecalNumberRandomize=TRUE
DecalNumberBlockSize=10
DecalNumberStart=0
DecalNumberEnd=11

The CampaignData.ini entry

MaxAircraft=14
StartAircraft=14
MaxPilots=14
StartPilots=14
Experience=100
Morale=100
Supply=100
Intelligence=100
MissionChance[SWEEP]=90
MissionChance[CAP]=90

Don't know if it has something to do, but did you put the entry in the CAMPAIGNNAME.INI too? (not the CAMPAIGNNAMEDATA.INI)

[USNUnit001] ---- Name taken from another campaign, could be different in your folder :)
AircraftType=F-14A_82
Squadron=VF31
ForceID=1
UnitID=1 ---- Validate entry, check in your CAMPAIGNNAME.INI file. Add your squadron and assign a UNIQUE number there
StartDate=09/29/1996
DescFile=CampaignUSNF3Desc.txt
StartText=CampaignUSNF3Start1.txt

Mate,I don't touched the CampaignName as the squadron is already in the Campaign from the beginning 'cause directly included in the mod, I simply changed the skin with the historic correct one done by me.
as you can see from my post, I can select my skin but the game don't "accept" the skin as the default one and is strange, as in the same mod' El Dorado Canyon Campaign I done and added four Hornets skin and all run smoothly

Here the Campaign.ini entry for the squadron, you can see that all is correct

[USNUnit007]
AircraftType=F-14A_82
Squadron=VF31
ForceID=1
UnitID=11
StartDate=11/02/1986
DescFile=CampaignNC3CDesc.txt
StartText=CampaignNC3CStart.txt

Thanks anyway for the interess and the suggestion

I thought about it and my idead was ''stupid'' as you already have it in the campaign :)

Then seems like a ''jump'' in the texturesetXXX sequence like it happend to me with the L-39 in my Red Flag campaign...

I don't know where the skin you have by default stands in the sequence but might have a look from the one you have by default and go up to the new one you made. There must have an error in the sequence or something...

You're right Frenchie.

Nothing of special but is a gap in the TMF pack and needed for the Campaign I posted above as the correct one.

Unfortunately I can't add the small Felix on the external tanks as isn't build in the TMF model

Also working on other two skin for the same mod, for the Indy Air Wing.

The VF-32 with the less know and less glamorous markings

And the sister squadron VF-14 wit these stars & bars with inverted colors

Some time ago I've also realized the VF-143 correct markings for the early '80s

Hi guys, I solved my issue with the VF-31. Simply , as something is in this cases, is my fault ( when stupidity reign supreme...). The mod have three Campaigns with VF-31/Forrestal, I simply added the skin to the wrong one; for any good count,now each one Campaign are with my skin, at wich I replaced my previous star&bar as I don't like too much.

Also I've pratically finished the VF-32 skin

The VF-14 is done.

BUt I need to find where the tail RWR blister is on the skin maps, as actually block the red stripe

ysZSC4.png

But I discovered myself prey of the demon and started redo the skin of the various VFs of my mods; in fact despite great very few skins in the TMF F-14 Superpack is historically correct ( and this is more than logic, as the modders can't manage the single units's change of markings),and actually I started modify four Squadron. The real problem are the Nimitz 1986 F-14s. Both the suadron had the CO and XO planes as the color birds, but in the overall light gull grey and the line ones in TPS , and this made the work more hard, 'cause AFAIK the game engine cannot manage in a unit the change of skin but only the decals during a precise timeframe,and if for the VF-41 the problem is more acceptable as anyway the TPS is a overall grey,the VF-84 had the three tone grey TPS...

Oh well,I need some  compromise!

Select the RWR blister (LMB-click), then RMB-click -> menu, go "show node on texture"

I have to admit, that I don't understand the problem...tired from work, etc.

But I think I get the general direction.

You either have 1 camo for the whole squadron and want CAG (color) and line birds (grey) together - this can be done with some effort with decals (have a look at my Vietnam-Skyhawks to see, how it can be done)

Or you want different camos for different planes of the squadron together. This can be done, if you do the actual camo as a big decal. There are several issues though. The decal-files will probably be huge and, from my limited experience with it, different to place exactly. For myself it's not worth the effort, but others have more experience with it and work that way.

If a squadron changed the camo over time (from highviz gullgrey/white to tps for example), you can also use a date switch as an easy workaround.

Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks guys.
Yor're right Nightfall, I wasn't the best to explain my "problem"

The problme aren't the decals,I learn a bit how manage them ( more or less) , but the camo.

The VF-41 line bird was in all gray TPS...

WzkPvh.jpg

...while the Modex 100 and 101 was in LGG camo with tan radome tip and full color markings,but for this the problem was less important,cause despite the difference in the two grays I can live changing only the decals,after all are enough precise for me.

WG7Gmn.jpg

For VF-84 he things are a bit more complex ( for me at least).

The line birds

N29qEl.jpg

But the CO and XO color bird,again, were in LGG full color markings,and there the differences are a bit more importants...

EA4odg.jpg

Also, in the 1982, the VF-14' Modex 101 bird had a rattlesnake nose art, someone have a useful image to use for the decals?

Anyway,thanks guys for lose you time with me!!!!

You might have to do two different skins for the color birds and TPS birds. There really is no way to have the game show the color birds and the TPS birds, unless you somehow manage to do it with decals, to echo Nyghtfall on this subject.

Think is the only solution for my scarce skill mate!

For VF-41 I would do an all grey base skin and do the markings with decals. That way you can use color and grey markings side-by-side.

For VF-84 I would do 2 different skins for the whole squadron each - A single-gray one like the CO/XO planes with color and grey markings like the VF-41s and another one with the other camo (looks like 2 different greytones), again with color and grey markings.

This is my idea, probably I wasn't clear before, 'cause my bad English...

The VF-41 option for a single gray skin is quite acceptable foe me ( maybe can be add a tan decals for the nose tip of the color jets,let see if I can...), but for the Jolly Rogers's the only solution is a double skin, LGG full color jets and three tone grays TPS.

Again thanks for the head-ups, suggestions and your time guys!

Thanks to @Crusader, I've added the red strip over the RWR blister!

HI gents,

I finished the skins for the Nimitz 1986  and Kennedy 1982 Air Wings Tomcats

And the Skipper's

Further research of the Jolly Roger cruise, show that only the Skipper plane was in full color markings, the CAG one was in LoViz

QZZMXB.png

The skipper: here I've done a separate skin, as was impossible to manage the marking/skin change with only the decals as you know and suggested...

Hi gents,

I've in mind the idea of release a mini pack of my custom skin of this thread, but I've a small strange issue with the VF-32 decals.

In Campaign, the AI planes don't show the Squadron/ modex , but if I play with the VF-32 all work normally...any idea?

Note the VF-32 in background, no decals...

Do you have those entries in your "Textureset.ini" ?

DecalNumberRandomize=TRUE
DecalNumberBlockSize=12
DecalNumberStart=0
DecalNumberEnd=11

Yes,this's the entry in the Textureset.ini

[TextureSet]
Name=VF-32 "Swordsmen" '82
Nation=USN
Squadron=VF32
StartDefaultDate=1982
Specular=0.300000
Glossiness=0.750000
Reflection=0.000000
DecalNumberRandomize=TRUE
DecalNumberBlockSize=12
DecalNumberStart=0
DecalNumberEnd=12

I created a dozen customed skins but the issue happened only with this

your randomization is off by one

DecalNumberStart=0
DecalNumberEnd=11

0 - 11 is twelve numbers (0=1)

what you're showing is 13 decals
