New Aeroplanes?

Recommended Posts

I know OBD is a small team with some talented modders and researchers helping out and the current list of aircraft is extensive and unparalleled in comparison with any WW1 flight sim I'm familiar with. But, are there any future plans to create new aircraft? is there anyone that models aircraft in the team at present?

I'm thinking of the Farman short or long horn and Avro 504 for training and the Sopwith Dolphin and Fokker D8 for late war. A Morane Bullet with deflector plates would also be a nice addition along with the Bristol M.1 for some monoplane love. Oh, and maybe a Handley Page .... Macchi flying boat fighters on the Italian front can wait along with the Hanriot..

Of course I'm extremely happy with the current list and the game itself. Just putting it out there ....

As am I , if pilots do not make a little noise about the "missing"  aircraft, and other stuff too, then it may be overlooked. As far as I know though the Dolphin is in sim isn't it ? Other essential aircraft would be the Voisins and the Albatros 2 seaters, Most of the important German aircraft are there already, but 2 seater Albatri is a must for Western front operations. Also it would be nice to have Belgian Escadrilles as well, and give us the lovely Hanriot .

Yes guys as we said already we do have plans to make more aircraft for WOFF.  Now we have an all round sim we can concentrate again on even more (!) content.
We'd love to do those mentioned and a few others I personally would like to see   (now there's a good chunk of our lives gone assigned to doing all that already ;) )

We did have a Bristol M.I but it was never actually used at the front.  The Fokker D.8 is in there as the Fokker E.V.  (which was renamed because of fatal accidents due to wing failures).  The D8 versions were very late getting to the front  - late October 1918 so not many were used before the end -  but as I say you can fly the earlier version anyway which was pretty much the same (apart from improved workmanship!).

No palava here. Unfortunately Smithers the Batman, is on jankers, he was caught selling the Mess whiskey ( the CO's Single Malt by the way) to the Froggies, and trying to stock up on Gaulioses to sent home to his Mum. So there is a slight Whiskey shortage at this time, the Adjudant has managed to procure some Ricard, but as this is nasty French muck, I am afraid we shall just have to put up with it until the new shipment of Scotch is delivered hopefully this time next week. Jolly rotten show if one asks me !!

Hi Folks;

Over at SimHQ, the Woffers have a "Wish List" thread where we post all of our desirables for WOFF. Maybe someone would start one up here and have it as a "StickY' so all the good wishes go in the same pot and the devs at OBD know where to look for our interests!

Oh no, I have reached my quota of poo stirring for the day, I expect I am already flavour of the month as it is, my name no doubt being cursed from behind gritted teeth. Which of course is a positive, rather than a negative, as it means maybe I am reaching those spots no other irritatin' git reaches !!! However, it is still a good idea, and as you had said idea, please feel free to implement it old chap.

Thanks for the update Pol. I guess I missed that communique.

I had completely forgotten the EV (which is in-game) was renamed D8 after the "accidents" were considered bad press by Tony Fokker, not to mention, profits. Or scooting back to Holland in the dead of night.

Would you be able to share your thoughts on the planes you'd like to see? If it's classified information, I of course understand.

For me, talking of French plane, I think of 3 planes, mainly :

  • Farman F40, which soldiered from Verdun to Somme ("Nivelle Offensive")
  • Salmson 2A2 (present in most other flightsim : First Eagle and Il2 WWI) : for both the French and the US, and it is really pleasant to fly.
  • Caudron R11 (or R4 or Letord) : they would add a lot of gameplay as escort planes, both for the French who will have to maneuver the plane to "screen" the recon plane and for the German, as it may be a tough nut to crack
  • As heavy bomber, you can add the Caproni (night)

As to Voisins planes, though the 37 mm would be fun, remember it performed as a night bomber for most of the war

Of course, there are plenty of others (Dorand, Spad XI/ XVI ....), but they can be easily "replaced" by other types (Sopwith ...) and are less iconic, though if one of your main marketing target is depressive people with suicidary tendances, I am sure you can sell a lot of them :)
