New ordinance sorting list for ordinance selection (Menu)

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

While I was working on SF2 new MENU / GUI project, I realized that I really want to finish working on updating an ordinance list.  The reasons:

I missed the old day of Jane's FA when I could view the list of ordinance that is separated between AA (Air to Air) / AS (Air to Surface).  I decided to work on it, so anyone who wants this can also enjoy SF2 with new ordinance list.

I created the notes with abbreviations I am using for the list.  The feedbacks are welcomed as always.  I will happily update the list if the community wants to see any abbreviations modified, changed, or added.  Here is the list:

Abbreviations

The list is still WIP, there are probably mistakes I have not seen before.  So please let me know if you see anything needs fixing in the list.

Hello everyone,

I finally am able to finish working on this project.  I owe big thanks to both Wrench and Menrva for the big helps.  Because of them, I am able to solve the problems tweaking ordinances in SF2.  Here are screenshots:

i like it but you are setting yourself up for a massive amount of work, given how many weapons mods there are out there

still interested to see how far you carry this.

Thank you for the feedback.  I sincerely appreciate your concerns.

I am looking for the latest, up to date weapon pack.  If you know any, please let me know.  I will contact the author of mod and ask for the permission to work on ordinance's ini files, respectively.

That way the community can have the up-to date pack with the organized names too.  From there, the community could keep updating it too (hopefully).

WOW !! :stars: Talk about making hard work for your self !!!  However very cool bit of organisation I have to say. Well done, even if you are a little OCD, and nutty :drinks:

Thank you very much! :)

Since I do this as hobby, it doesn't feel like a work for me.  Hence, I enjoy doing this.

Plus, as I rename each weapon, I google and learned a lot about them too.  hence, it is a win-win situation.

That's your main problem; there is no ultimate weapon pack. There's ravenclaw's Weapon Pack 2 (a version 3 is in the works) but there are many other weapon packs dealing with different ordnance and countries; rather often you might encounter different folder names and 3d models, but both refer to the same weapon type (some weapon mods feature Soviet missiles with NATO names, others feature them with their Soviet naming convention and outdated 3d models); you can even find things like R-552 and Matra550-2, but they are actually the same thing and only one should be featured. To make things worst, sometimes weapons which seemingly are copies of one another may contain specific station codes so that they are used only by specific aircraft, and so they may be needed. To make things even worse, you'll find weapons with alternative skins/camos, and copies and copies of rocket pods using alternative rocket types, and those usually are needed as well.

IMHO, limit yourself to the stock weapons. If you plan to expand with custom weapons, it's a minefield. For the ODS mod we've released, we've spent much time removing any unwanted/double versions of the same weapon, and even now that we're working on a patch we find ourselves removing some, adding some, all while tweaking dozens of aircraft files as well. My point is, save yourself some trouble and enjoy the game, or you'll end-up in an exhausting loop at some point. Just for reference, in ODS we currently have 448 weapons. Imagine that number x2 or x3, considering all other time frames and conflicts featuring older and newer ordnance.

while making custom names for aircrafts is interesting (I am using this kind of sorting for at least 8 years now) not that I can not find aircraft I want to fly...It is just for having order in that damn list..

img00002.JPG.1fcf27ed104ec7afb4067eea2b8e35a5.JPG

then making those weapon rename list seems to be futile...in case a new weapon will pop up...any time, your list will be old. Plus as Menrva said there are many copies of weapons added by many modders. It is a minefield.

I use my 'naming way' for weapons also but in that case, I am trying to be short as possible  Mk.82 500 lb Bomb....for me it is just 'Mk82. 500lb'.. it is obvious it is a bomb. I do not add Anti Radiation MIssile or Laser Guided BOmb to weapon name...it is too long in loadout menu....

at your list you have....

(SAM) "SA-N-3 Goblet" (RC / SARH)
(M-SAM) "SA-8 Gecko Mod 0" (CLOS)

those weapons are not displayed in the loadout list so skip it...they are used by ground/sea units.

Just my 3 cents.

But..enjoy game, keep playing ...then for sure you will move to other sorts of modding. Everyone started somewhere...Good that you like to work around the game environment also.

back to your question on weps packs

as pointed out there is no ultimate pack. i would start with Gunnys pack (way back in the beginning of SF2 time), it is the biggest, but it acts as an executeable, so park the folder outside of an install at first

many of the current weapons got their start in that pack, so after opening it up, try looking for the campaigns and installs that came after Gunnys and adding/updating as needed, then weapons packs.

have a working copy to sort outside of any install, and an install to park it inside of to check out how its working.

i understand both sides of the cnversation on what youre doing, having a massive squadronlist ini built up with many different squadrons and even iterations of squadrons (7th FBS, 7th FS, 7th TFS etc). after a point it does get overwhelming and you move on to other things, but you determine that point, not the rest of us saying "wow really".

anyhow, just two more pennies from me  heres the link to Gunnys weps pack

That makes sense.  For now, I am going to stop my ordinance list mod to the stock only.  You and others just saved me from a major headache in this project.  I thank you and everyone here.

I am going to move on to the next mod projects.  At least, the community can use this mod at this stage to start with. :)

It is an awesome how you sorted the list!  Thank you for sharing with me.  As Menrva have mentioned, it is good idea to skip the ordinance list sorting mod.

About the SAMs and other besides ordinance, that is noted.  Your advice is appreciated.

Thank you for the link!   As the community have discussed, I am stopping my work at SF2 stock only for now.  So that way anyone can use it as a starting point for renaming the weapon packs.

(That way I also can enjoy SF2 from time to time too!)

Cheers!

      Hi everyone,
I recently got into weapon modding and wanted to edit some missiles.
I went for the Weapons Folder with the Weapons Editor, and some weapons were missing, even tho i can see them and equip them in-game.
I wanted to edit the AA-2D Atoll for my Su-22M3, but there's no AA-2 folder inside Weapons folder, nor inside plane folder, even tho the missile is equippable and i can see it/use it in-game.
Since there's no Atoll folder, i have no idea how is it possible for me to have it in-game, and even less i know on how am i supposed to edit it through Weapons Editor, since i can't select the folder.
I thought it may be a sort of "built-in-game" missile and for this reason not showing in weapons folder (idk i just made an hypothesis).
So i tried using the CAT Extractor, but seems like not working... no matter which CAT file i select, it says "error opening this .CAT file, no files can be extracted", how's that? How do i fix it? Am i doing something wrong?
Thank you in advance for helping me fixing all these issues or helping me find what i'm doing wrong

      Hi,
after seeing the TMF F-14 has wrong and inaccurate speed and fuel indicators, i found out the default Third Wire F-14 has working and accurate ones, but i dont wanna use it cause the TMF Tomcat is better and the cockpit too more realistic too, so can you switch the speed and fuel indicators on the TMF F-14 with the default Third Wire F-14? And for fuel too? Do you need to 3D model and/or do something else other than edit some text files?
And is it or it's not possible to do?
Down here are 2 pictures from the correct cockpit in the default Third Wire F-14:

And 2 from the TMF F-14 (the inaccurate one):

      Thanks for helping.

      Hi everyone,
I was wondering how to customize the numbers after your callsigns, since it always gives me the same ones.
I think i managed somehow once, a bit of time ago, but now i forgot and have no idea how to.
I'm not talking about how to customize the callsign name, but the unit number after it.
As you can see in the Roster and in the picture under, i get "Fast Eagle 1-1" and "Fast Eagle 1-2"
      Here are some examples:

The numbers on the tail, wing and nose numbers are customized, cause i managed how to change them, choosing them individually for each unit in the mission file by changing "AircraftNumber=" and typing the number, like "2" (as for 202). It doesn't change by typing the whole number tho, like 202 by typing 202, but it goes by typing the number that corresponds to the list of numbers you have. For example, In a list that goes from 200 to 400, you will have to type 10 to get 300. Here i just typed "2" and "7" since the list starts from 200

IIRC, in the past i just used to type the Aircaft number just like that, and in-game i had the proper number after the callsign, like "Fast Eagle 102", not just the number displayed on the plane livery.
How do i do? I'm pretty sure that it's possible to have "Fast Eagle 102" on my screen HUD and in the Roster
Thanks in advance for helping me.
