ODS Warbirds: F-15C\D\E Eagle ODS30 Squadrons

SF2 F-15C\D\E Eagle ODS30 Squadrons

-------------------------------------------------------------

This pack contains the stand-alone version of the F-15C\D\E Eagle aircrafts from "Operation Desert Storm: 30th Anniversary". This mod contains accurate ODS livery, nose art and serial numbers from ODS. This is just a sample of what you will find in the expansive "Operation Desert Storm: 30th Anniversary" pack. If you like this mod and want (much much) more! Please check out the "Operation Desert Storm: 30th Anniversary" mod here...

https://combatace.com/files/file/17521-operation-desert-storm-30th-anniversary-edition/

!! DO NOT INSTALL THIS MOD into the "Operation Desert Storm: 30th Anniversary" pack. That pack already has these aircrafts, customized for the ODS30 theater!

* Included Jets:
F-15C Eagle
F-15D Eagle
F-15E Strike Eagle

---------------------
Installation...
---------------------

1) Copy the contents of the "To_Mod_Folder" folder into your mod folder and over-write if required.

2) Update your "...\Flight\SOUNDLIST.INI" with the contents of the "Add F15 SoundList.txt". Please don't forget to maintain the number sequence in the sound list.

3) Check, ensure (or update) all the squadrons in this pack is in your "SQUADRONLIST.INI" file. Once you look at that file, you will know what to do.

* Please note that some squadrons may have multiple CO planes, this is not a mistake. Rather than just picking one CO, I am representing all the COs for that squardon during the period. So both COs could pop up in given scenario. I rather have them than cut them so...it's only a game...

* Tweaked and Tested by the ODS30 team!
* Mod Direction and Optimization - Menrva
* Additional Data and Weapons improvements - Yakarov79.
* Additional Sound tweaks and updates - Guuruu.
* Accurate Skins and Decals - Viper63a

Thanks and Enjoy!

Yes, but that announcement applied to 2021. These standalone aircraft are much outdated now. ODS 30AE received many updated since the first release in 2021, with aircraft getting much reworked data over time. Moreover, the F-15C and F-15D now got proper Compass Grey Ghost skins by @daddyairplanes instead of using the Mod Eagle scheme colors of this package which are anachronistic for the Gulf War. The F-15E also got reworked skins by daddyairplanes.

Maybe the updated F15s from recent ODS?

The new skins are by daddyairplanes, so I guess this standalone package will be updated if Viper63a asks daddyairplanes permission to include his work in place of the old skins of the package.

Given that ODS 30AE is still updated to this day, these standalone packages by Viper63a are currently two (almost three) years of updates behind.

those skins were made with viper63s templates, i would give him credit for 50% of how mine are. there were some corrections, and some improvements over the original

but the permission's out there if he wants to touch his up. as a modder i will understand perfectly if he choses to maintain what he did (i often do the same with my own mods vs somebody else's of the same thing)

Which were made from my originals.......lol, it's amazing just how much of this old stuff is being reused over and over.

I dont have a problem with it, but it's about time some-one did a "complete" redraw of of all these old birds.

exactly what I think too.

Not only the F-15s, also the (original TMF) F-16s.

the original work is quite good as the basis. i did the improvements i could. i very much think my bare metal areas are better esp on that wierdly mapped piece on the right side, and ive got the feeling (sure i'll be corrected if wrong) that color picker feature off a photo was used years ago rather than hunting down the hex or RGB values for the listed Federal Standard paint numbers.

and "3 rivets and a serial " feels kind of personal. i do 4 rivets and historically accurate serials   in all seriousness, my main thing bringing to the table is the research. all the really good modders here spend dozens if not hundreds of hours on their projects. i just spend alot of my time hunting down the serials that were assigned or the proper unit markings rather than a "such and such Fighter Squadron" back in the Tactical Fighter Squadron era.  theres a chunk of it in the old ODS and its been a big part of why i do my mods the way i do

do i use the same templates as before? yes. why not if its out there. do i copy and paste from joe baughers site? no, because often its not the right info. thats just my little quirk (for the most part)

problem there is that the old stuff is still quite good.

there are  few current modelers on BPAOs level or skinners on ravenclaw007s level. the ones that are active dont feel the need to reinvent that wheel at this time, they have their own wheels they're inventing.

my biggest pet peeve is all the stuff that was done in 2006-2009, is in the markings of either that time or the 1970s, and with a grab bag of 100 serials for a unit of 24.

maybe the reference materials are better in the last decade than when these were all made. maybe i have more time on my hands than they did. but theres alot of good work out there with minor flaws that scream to those that do pay attention to those details. call it number counting rather than rivet counting.

      Notes about the installer
Beware, the mod is available only in the ISO format. You can either mount it on a virtual drive, burn it on a DVD like in the good old days, or unzip it with 7-Zip or equivalent software.
The installer will automatically detect your installation of the required Strike Fighters 2 games by reading through the registry keys. Game folders that are copied from or manually moved from where they were originally installed are not supported. You need all three aforementioned Strike Fighters 2 games and they must be installed with ThirdWire's original installers, not manually copied from other sources nor moved elsewhere after installation to other folders or drives. If you do not meet any of these requirements, installation cannot proceed and you are on your own. If you install all required games properly, the installation of the mod will proceed correctly as intended. The installer then lets you choose where to install the mod folder; you can even install the mod on a different drive or partition than the one where Strike Fighters 2 is installed. No further user input nor manual edits after installation are ever required; the installer takes care of creating all proper links to your desired path for the mod folder. After installation is over, simply run the mod by using the created Desktop and/or Start Menu links.
If you have a previous version of the mod installed, please use the uninstaller to remove it completely. Clean installation is mandatory. You might want to make a backup of the Controls folder, so that you can easily restore your controller settings afterwards.

      Suggestions on common issues
Make sure that you are using your dedicated GPU. By default, Strike Fighters 2 usually selects the integrated GPU you may have on your CPU, which is much weaker in terms of VRAM. In case you have frequent crashes or black/missing textures, I highly suggest you download and install the DXVK graphics wrapper (x86 DLLs) into your Strike Fighters 2 game folder: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk. You need a Vulkan-compatible GPU. The wrapper can greatly improve the experience with the mod. With DXVK I can play the mod on a mere Intel UHD 710, whereas without it the mod would always crash to desktop. Go to Sound and set Sound Channels to 32. We got reports that 16 is not enough and will cause crashes on some systems, due to the higher quality sounds included within the mod. The mod is pretty heavy for the game engine despite huge optimizations. Strike Fighters 2's engine is 32bit only and apparently does not manage VRAM properly; consecutive campaign missions might show black/missing textures on objects or cause crashes to desktop because the game does not release the occupied VRAM from the previous mission you played, thus the more missions are loaded consecutively, the more easily you may run out of memory. Set Ground Objects to Medium or Low, Horizon Distance to Near, and Shadows to Medium or Low. These are the most troubling settings. Avoid Unlimited settings as much as possible. If the mod used to work and suddenly crashes to desktop, updating or reinstalling video drivers should help. Make sure that DirectX June 2010 Redistributables are also installed, they are included inside the ISO disk image of the mod. Inside the mod folder, you'll find some extra text files. "(Coalition Order of Battle)" should be of your interest; the mod's terrain covers the entirety of Iraq, at the cost of not having all of Saudi Arabia; this means that a number of important units are based on airbases that are beyond the in-game playable area. With those units you always spawn near the target area, you'll never get to start from a runway nor to land on the assigned runway beyond the invisible wall. You have an entire list of the affected units in the aforementioned text file. By pressing ALT+N, the plane returns to base automatically. The mod is fully compatible with the Campaign Customizer and Mission Editor DLCs by ThirdWire. The Campaign Customizer might be an alternative way to experience those off map units I mentioned previously, since it assigns you to a random airbase of the in-game flyable area. Escort missions are often broken, this is not an issue of the mod, but a bug of the stock game; sometimes the AI flight you escort does not engage its target and keeps flying in a straight line instead of following waypoints, thus the trigger for mission success will never happen. Abandon the mission or retry it if the issue happens, sometimes it works. Pray for ThirdWire AKA Tsuyoshi Kawahito to work on a 64bit version of Strike Fighters 2, maybe even with support for DirectX 12. With that done, any out of memory issues should become an old memory. View File [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas F-15A 'Italiano'
McDonnell Douglas F-15A_AMI for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of the stock F-15A to give a fictional F-15A  in service with the Aeronautica Militare Italiano during the 1980 - 2010 timeline and includes markings for 18° Gruppo, 37° Stormo.
You'll need to have SF2E for the F-15A LOD's (not included) but SF2I owners will have the option of using the F-15A_Baz with minor editing.

      INSTRUCTIONS
      1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-15A_AMI folder into your Aircraft folder.
      2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-15A_AMI folder into your Decals folder.
      That's it!
