Today I uploaded the Nieuport 21. It was intended to be an escort and used a Nieuport 17 airframe with a smaller engine (to extend its range.) It was used by the French, British and Russians, and saw a lot of use post war. I have included two skins, a full set of decals, a fully functional cockpit, and my skinning templates.

My thanks to Ojcar, who made the FM, which captures the fast climbing speed, but low power of this plane.

Wonderful job.:ty:

But, as the great Tanizaki said, I will note one circumstance.:biggrin:

On the Nieuport aircraft (up to Type 24-27), the upper elevators control cables ran THROUGH the stabilizer. For this purpose, special through "slits" were made there.

This is a very characteristic feature of the prototype, which immediately catches the eye on the model.

In reality, the N21 was usually used by the French without weapons as a trainer, although individual copies still ended up at the front. The Serbs had quite a lot of them, and the later ones - in fact, remotorized N17s.

But the only country where this type was actively used as a combat type was Russia. The low engine power did not allow the use of the heavy Vickers, therefore, as standard armament, various types of machine guns (Lewis, Hotchkiss, possibly Madsen and Colt) were used in an asynchronous version. By the summer of 1917, when the motor hunger for 110HP "Rhones" was overcome, part of the 21s were brought up to the standard of the 17th model during a major overhaul. The engine was changed to a more powerful one and a synchronous Vickers was installed. In some documents, this type is designated as "Nieuport 21bis", outwardly, both variants of the plane could be distinguished from the N17 by an incomplete engine hood, as on the 11th type.

This are my lines from Nieuport21_data.ini

Used cartridges are now extracted and thrown where they should be thrown (i.e. to the side, not back).

[InternalGun1]
SystemType=FIXED_GUN
GunTypeName=303CAL_LEWIS_MK2
InputName=FIRE_PRIMARY_GUN
GunGroup=1
MuzzlePosition=0.0, 0.713, 1.238
LightPosition=0.0, 0.713, 1.238
AimAngles=0.0,0.0,0.0
MaxAmmo=47
TracerLoading=5
BurstAmount=10
NumReloads=3
ReloadTime=25.0
EjectShells=TRUE
EjectPosition=0.02,-0.19,1.24

MinExtentPosition=-0.06,-0.49,1.05
MaxExtentPosition= 0.08, 0.71,1.29
GunFireAnimationID=6
Synchronized=FALSE

(However, as far as I know, tracers were not widespread in Russian aviation.)

Thank you Stephen for the lovely N. 21 - this one will nicely complement the N. 21 in Geezer's beta pack and I will carry over the FM modifications from that one that I did a while ago, when I find time, to your model as well. The good thing about the Ojcar FMs is that they are very tweak-friendly and it doesn't take too much time to bring the specs. up to historical peculiarities. Always nice to see fresh models coming out for FE2.

@Crawford, thank you for that info. regarding 110 hp upgrades for the N.21 -- this has got me thinking about a few possibilities now -- maybe I will upgrade Geezer's N.21 to the 110 hp variant (since if I remember correctly some of his sub-variants of the N. 21 carry the Vickers - been a while since I checked but will look into it) --- and I will tweak Stephen's N.21 around a 90 hp or so variant, since it carries the Lewis.

Good times ahead in FE2 where the only limit is our imagination, time constraints, and of course the limitations of TK's sim. engine. :biggrin:

Cheers all,

Von S

By the way, an interesting version of the sight on this French-built Russian Nieuport-21 :biggrin:

And in this picture, the elevator control cables, which I mentioned above, are clearly visible.
