I used some of GKABS civilan airport buildings, some of my usual runway and taxiway files and the stock airfield4 to create Buenos Aires Airport

My original plan was to release a simple version of the Rio de la Plata terrain for X-Mas. But i'm still debugging the files. Mostly it are parked aircrafts, which appear, where they are not should be.

I hope i can finish it till end of the week.

img00026.thumb.JPG.a916cbec8aa24b708f008ffeb48a1504.JPG

The scenario so far is:

1982. After the argentinan attack on the Falkland islands the Royal Navy is striking back, with an invasion of Argentina. Beachheads were formed and the Argentinian Army is trying to push the British out of the land.

For the RoyalNavy and the allied Brazilians you can fly: SWEEP,CAP,ESCORT,INTERCEPT,STRIKE,SEAD,ANTI_SHIP,RECON,CAS,Armed_Recon

For the Argentinians you can fly:  SWEEP,CAP,ESCORT,INTERCEPT,STRIKE,SEAD,ANTI_SHIP,CAS

Since british and argentinian carrier groups are in the area STRIKE missions are always flown against the enemy carrier.

I have uploaded the Rio de la Plata terrain.

Here the Planningmap:

Rio_de_la_Plata_Bay_PlanningMap2.thumb.jpg.9cc0b7763ada5af721ed4045efd16a1c.jpg

Its intended as NAVAL Map with carrier vs carrier action.

Thatswhy i have included the ships for the british and the argentinian carrier battle group. I also used the stock Austin landing ships to simulate the british Fearless Class, so you can face two british ship groups in a mission.

Ground action you find east of the argentinian Air Base Tandil. Here you can fly CAS missions to support argentinian or british tanks.

Between Tandil and Buenos Aires the area of Armed_Recon is located. Armed Recon is possible only for the British or Brazilians.

Montevideo is set as neutral airport.

Have fun and Happy New Year!

Only a thought, i had while i was watching Top Gun Maverick last weekend. Why not making a terrain mod with a deep valley, which is the path to the target? High desity of SAM, an airfield close by ....

We need high mountains up to the sea. A deep valley. Snow.

But which terrain as basic? Completly new? Or the Caucasus part of my Southern Ukraine and Crimean Peninsula terrain? Or Korea MiG Alley terrain? Somewhere in the east of the map? Or something else?

Only an idea.

well, the real life shots were mostly in Washington state.

i dont think many would object if you made a new pacific northwest, one version for Maverick and one real life

the bridge was in california though

Caucasus map would be nice, bonus if it was part of the Ukraine map you just made, but that's just a smidgen there I suppose. But anything with mountains is pretty cool for me.

Major Lee's America NorthWest REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY needs to be redone. Completly. And right. It does, as is, have some nice deep canyons and valleys. But it's really old ....

Still about the canyon S-W of the Desert V4 terrain :

Go to

P13
and set course at 150 / distance 100 km - 55 NM

or
P14
and set course at 160 / distance 30 km - 15 NM

or
Jalamin
(Position=248000.00,241000.00 in the target.ini file)
and head southeast 10 km - 6NM

Hey Gepard, I´m in love with your Rio de La Plata terrain! I painted a greenish hue version if you don´t mind.

Nice i love it.

With the green tileset it would be possible to maked a seasoned terrain. One for dry and one wet weather periode.

I think the estuary should be in full muddy brown, look at the pics...

BTW, love the green tileset version!! as Gepard said can be a nice seasonal variation.

It´s right! I flew from Aeroparque  City Airport in Buenos Aires many times and it´s just at the banks of Rio de La Plata and the water is murky and muddy like the photos.

One step by the other. First i must finish my book project. Then i will do some work on Rio de la Plata Bay terrain. What i would need is a picture of a typical argentinian village house, so that i can rework the TOD houses on the map. Then i need the information, wheter there are palm trees in the area. If no then i must change it too.

Ok, will provide those pics. Please think about the muddy estuary as well.

On both sides of the river, 80% of the houses are 1 height and painted in white with flat roofs, the roofs were painted in different colours, so you can see houses with grey roofs, blue roofs, white roofs... Also the ocasional orange roof tiled house but those are far less frequent. See attached pics. Regarding palm trees there is the ocasional palm planted on villages or along the roads, but no palm trees on the fields, nothing at all, so I would get rid of them. There are trees, but not that many as in the SF2 terrain.

Sit rep.

I got the green terraintiles from Wilches and added them to the Rio de la Plata Bay terrain. Now we have a wet (green) season and a dry (brownish) season.

Then i started to create Base Aeronaval Punta Indio for the Argentinians.

So it looks at the moment.

img00042.thumb.JPG.7d25c9bac11eb6de6d5cdc66a6b555f3.JPG

There is still a lot to do. The barracks in the middle of the base, the tower and so on. Then i must place the parked aircrafts to the correct positions.

Will need some time.

I tried to make water tiles for the muddy part of the Rio de la Plata Bay. But i'm not satisfied. In game it looks rather like desert than as muddy water.

The screenshot shows in foreground the new water tile, in the middle the blue watertiles, which i have used in the terrain before. And in the background you see the tiles of Buenos Aires.
