what he said.

take some current effects, rename em and start playing with em to get what you like

ask for things and ou'll get crickets.

try making a thing and ask for help with what you've messed up, and a whole chorus will erupt

nothing is impossible as it says its self ( i am possible )

actually it will bring a new life to Strike Fighters 2

if new aircrafts and object mods can be created then new effects can also be created ... just a pleasent suggestion ! :good:

well i guess you just need to make high quality effects
though get ready for 10fps gaming : )

joys of 32bit i think stary's effects pack is the best and it looks decent for SF2

since 2 months i play on max effects settings With stary's EE3 except shadows

but actually on max effects settings fov becomes a little blur 😟

i tried all combatace effects mods but never got dcs or warthunder alike fire flares and flames

i think thirdwire should do something about it just an effects update

its not the FOV becoming a little blur its just an added vignette on some shaders

on menrva's pack theres an alternative shaders folder see what you like

Methinks you shouldn't hold your breath. I mean the modders can only do so much with (as Wrench pointed out) a twenty-year old graphics engine. It would be nice if it could be updated with a better rendering engine, but you have to just find the best one amongst many effects that gets relatively close to what you're looking for. I mean DCS is constantly worked on so there is some improvement and bug-fixing. But Strike Fighters had it's last patch nine years ago, which so far didn't mess with the graphics engine (which I could be wrong, I didn't review or remember the patch notes).

I think the guy is confusing blur with bloom. I explicitly wrote in my realSKY Readme file that bloom postprocessing is used by the game when Effects settings are set to Unlimited. This is unrelated to the mod, although realSKY provides better postprocessing given engine limitations. I wonder why I waste time writing Readme files.

About effects, the best currently available are from Stary's Unified Effects package. For the ODS mod, me and guuruu have been improving those and fixing any mistakes, typos, wrongly referenced shaders, etc. Maybe some day I'll think about re-releasing them as a standalone package.

Much better looking effects are simply not possible, the graphics engine is not capable of features like proper heat waves, volumetric clouds, etc. The game is old, live with it. Besides, to be asking for even better freeware mods than the ones already available is a bit insulting and annoying. I almost lost my sanity while working with obsessive care and precision on some add-ons (which are free). There are people spending their free time to make others happier, with absolutely nothing in return. So let's be grateful for what the community already offers. Rant over.

The life sicle of the game goes to the end. I think we will never see any engine updates from ThirdWire . He anounced W10 compatibility 2 years ago and ended with it. its still anounced without moving ahead i see. So we have to play with that we have. Its nice retro game which makes us happy isnt it? :) So relax and joy. The architecture of engine is not opened like it is in Falcon 4.0 so its not possible to improve engine, only ini editing

True but it's not like TK is making any effort to patch it, so yeah I got you, it would be nice but I'm not expecting him to do anything about it.

That's what you get when wearing headphones and you don't hear the incoming bullets from an enemy behind you  hitting your plane. Or maybe our hearing is getting impaired after so many years of flying this game, :D   VBH

occasionally you can get these interesting smoke effects in EAWPRO generated by the new randomly asigned and expanded effects routines, giving many a much wider use. Besides that there are more smoketypes available which have new uses. Each animation is sixteen 64 pixel drawings in 8 bit using an entire 256 x 256 pixel PCX. Here a few expanding black smoke clouds were generated after two planes collided and you can still see a firey wing dropping down.

This night screen shows EAWPRO's bullet impact animation routine in action. Impacts can select a short animation within any of the available smoke and fire animations starting from any frame in that animation. I don't know offhand how many available drawings that is but roughly well over 200! This mimics bullets hitting various types of ground or objects and can for instance even use the watersplash animation when hitting a fuel cannister or something simmilar, as can be seen on the left of the screen where also a fire has started after the impact.

BTW, notice that not all drawings are illuminated at night.

After doing long research and reading up on the flight documentation of the F-8 Crusader, I have found that there is support for chaff and flares on the aircraft though in game, only 60 chaff is available unless editing the data file. I went and gave the F-8's 30 chaff and flares as the manual says in real life as far as the mod 3 F-8E to F-8J and H around 1966 to the latest. I would hope eventually someone can update the countermeasure options in a later update to the F-8 on one of the third party mods like the mirage pack, french F-8 and such. Just saying.

USS Bon Homme Richard is on fire in San Diego after an explosion aboard. The LHD assault ship was in for maintenance when a "High Order Detonation" was reported inside the ship's dock bay and hanger. There was only a duty section of sailors aboard at the time. The fire is horrendous, made even worse by the fact that the ship is fully exposed...hatches open, vents open....no sailors on board to set Zebra or go to General Quarters. Fire scanner calls the ship "fully involved"
      https://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/watch/u-s-navy-confirms-ship-on-fire-at-san-diego-calif-base-87550533970
As of this moment, SDFD has ordered all assets to evacuate the pier next to the ship fearing further explosions.
