    Reinventing the wheel again and again and again and again... You could ask billions of questions and it still won't work, because you just ask question after question. Just try out stuff...experiment with stuff...check released stuff versus yours...make a MOD-folder just to try things out. If it doesn't work...then who cares...start again. That's how many people here did it and obviously it worked! If you have serious questions, ask and I'm sure people WILL help you out. You want much input...fair enough...we all want to...but the way you do it is not the best. ;) I like to help people out with my very limited knowledge of this game, but if I know from the beginning, that the answer to the actual question is of little interest, because the next bazillion questions are in the line already or you know it better anyways, then why care? If your custom loading screen doesn't work, then it is on your end. I am sure (absolutely, to be exactly), that there are tons of working examples found here on this site or in the download-section(*), that you could just download, try out and check those files versus yours to find the error. At the moment I'm looking for some pilot-model that I can use (and repaint) for one of my mods....guess what? I am downloading stuff and look for myself, rather than asking 5 milion questions... Sorry if I sound harsh, but checking the boards for news and only seeing tons of (often enough) pointless questions is a bit annoying. And yes, I am in a bad mood today, so sorry again :P Edit: added (*) --> You even have some mod already to check your loading-screen-error already....remember the Malaysian Skyhawks Mod from your other question lately? Have a look...it has loading and hangar-screens...and both are working! So don't just ask - do! ;)

    I found some interesting MiG -21 data online so did a mini review of the ThirdWire flight model to see if there was any room to improve the performance a bit. Regarding the aerodynamics everything looked good and any changes that would have been made based on the data would have resulted in slightly worse performance so I left it as is. Best areas to improve performance were some adjustments to rack weights, some potential adjustments to empty weights on some versions but not the Bis, implementation of a combat flap set up for the later versions, and a work around for the Bis series to model the very large emergency thrust setting that was available below 4km/13123ft. There was a 3 minute limit on that system but it's not modeled. Might try something in the future to get an engine blow up at some point past 3 minutes but it's low priority. Here's some info on the changes: Engine Boost: I've been aware of this capability for a long time but didn't think it could be modeled. Turns out, it can! The engine afterburner mach tables use the same altitude table as the dry mach tables so what I did was add a second engine to the Mig-21Bis, but it supplies thrust in afterburner only. It adds additional thrust bringing the total thrust to 21825lbs static. At 13000ft the altitude table included with the second engine starts cutting down on the thrust until it's completely gone at 14000ft. The additional fuel consumption with the added thrust is modeled but it's not as bad as I suggested in a screen shot. After fixing a mistake the fuel lasts around 4 to 4 1/2 minutes but the fuel consumption and thrust can vary quite a bit depending on mach number and altitude. The additional thrust activates at about 98% throttle so to conserve fuel you will want to use the AB with discretion. It just occurred to me now I might be able to set the main engine up so it gets it's max thrust around 90-95% which would leave a bit of a dead zone between the main and second engine. Will give that a test at some point. Combat Flaps: This system appeared on the later versions, possibly first appearing on late production PFM's but not 100% sure about that. A graph showed the additional lift from the combat flaps that was available at speeds up to mach 0.90. I'm not sure how they worked in RL but these ones are just set to automatic mach and are fully deployed at 0.30 mach and fully retracted at 0.90mach with a continuous variation between points. The combat flap system worked between 0deg and 25deg flap angle. With the automatic combat flaps the landing flap setting is no longer available. Rack and empty weights: With the smallish low lift delta wing the MiG-21 suffers badly from increased weight. Any legitimate weight savings would help a lot. Anyway, from the info I was looking at the weight of the main racks was considerably lighter than the TW values so I made some adjustments. Aircraft empty weights need more research but the Bis looks about right and the MF looks too heavy by about 240kg. Any further information on these topics would be appreciated.     Maybe you can help me with research? I have been slowly working on two Morane-Saulnier aircraft that were used by Russia. The M-S Type I was armed with a Vickers gun so the gun installation was different from the earlier "Bullet" types that were armed with Hotchkiss or Lewis guns. Shot of the Type I model shows my best guess at the Vickers installation - but its only a guess. Can you locate better information? Russia also used the Type P, but I can find only one reference and it shows a Madsen MG. Is this correct? Second shot of the Type P shows the more or less "normal" armament used by the British and French.

    A quick last reply by me. Some of your questions are pointless, because with little effort you could find answers or at least another option for further trials. I think you said somewhere in your posts, that you are a fast-learner and have experience with modding for years...really? The picture you're drawing in your answer is of a total newbie, that just discovered SF2 and TW out of the blue... SF1 and SF2 are different for sure, no question about that, but still there are a lot of things similar...and that should not be a problem for a fast-learner, with your background. The boards are for helping people, yes. But excuse my ignorance...If someone wants help, everyone can expect at least a tiny bit of own effort, which IMHO you lack often enough... You ask a question, get an answer or at least a hint for further trial and all you do is ask more and more questions (and as spinners correctly mentioned...you ask tons of different questions one after the other in threads, that have nothing to do with it...if an answer is helpful, nobody will ever find it again in that mess), instead of just doing anything or test something. That's the picture I have of you. Your computer won't explode, if you just test something here and there. And excuse me again, maybe it's the language barrier (I'm also no native english-speaker), but for me your reaction to an answer is not always the nicest (I tried to sound as kind as possible here...). The "no one helps you with what you want to know"-bit is actually YOUR problem...Sorry to say that. Remember your gunsight-thread? There are posts after posts of people trying to help you...and in the end you had a total different problem than people thought the whole thread... So it was actually YOUR problem to not correctly describe your problem...and as people said already....make screenshots...you didn't... Don't blame people for your faults... People will help you in this community...they are just not always on your side when you snip a finger (actually a german quote...). This whole community-game-flight-sim-thing is a HOBBY of all of those people here... They relax while modding or playing the game. They are not here to answer your questions or do something for you... And yet they do! In the beginning my thoughts where exactly like yours...I asked and nobody was enthusiastic enough to help me out. Today I understand those! There are 2 options here...quit anything and be angry about all those egoistic people here or continue, learn stuff on your own, contribute to the community and be actually part of it. I chose the 2nd and it was the right decision. I learned Photoshop and Blender from scratch and although I still cannot build planes, I can make fakepilots for my favourite planes, which gives me more opitions to do more modding...an actual win for me! Be part of this community, try things out and learn stuff...

    The Type P is the unsung hero of French aviation in 1916-17. It was designed as a more powerful improvement of the Type L. 565 were built, parceled out in twos and threes to most all French observation squadrons. It was also used by the British and Russians.

    I customise my decal folders so it saves looking thru 1000`s of images for the ones i want I put my missions in erm missions folder ? .lol sounds should be certain quality yes...cant recall what... custon menus?...check the ini files for typos...? check aircrafts ini file that it states jpg ....silly but easily overlooked.

    I was flying a recon mission in my SPAD XI when I was attacked by a group of HB Star Strutters. I tried to turn under them, where they couldn't bring their guns to bear, but one of them managed to knock out my engine. My gunner got one in the belly as he passed over and he went down. I was able to make it a nearby valley and land, but was behind the Austrian lines. My wing man got away.

    making a aircraft and bring it in to the game is difficult enough but making a cockpit and try to get it work is a pain in the a..... F-4G_early cockpit , still a long way to go

    I'm pretty sure in SF1 the hangar sounds were two or three sound files playing simultaneously, like there was one track that was the old radio, then a couple of different jet fly-bys. In SF2 there is only sound file that will play on each screen. You could certainly extract those sounds from SF1 and run them through a sound editing program to combine them back together and make what sounds like the same thing but combines those three tracks into one audio file and set that as the hangar noise, but no the way it worked in SF1 is not the way it works in SF2

    Size doesn't matter...something one could check without ANY effort. If the BMP works, than just use than one... Otherwise: Convert your BMP to a simple JPG, change the callout in the planes ini-file from BMP to JPG (not the data.ini) and it will also work...

    Yeah, it's a different thing from SF1 but once you get the swing of things it's soooo much easier to mod SF2.

    The only use of Alpha-Channels in SF2 I know of is for decals --> TGA-files. They are used to cover areas, that should not be seen on the decal (everything, except the number or whatever the decals shows). All other files (BMP, JPG) do not require or use Alpha-Channels. If I load the stock-loading-screen (blurred brownish F-4 picture) into Photoshop the file doesn't even have an Alpha-Channel...

    When I was using directly the plane's hangar bmp (which has alpha channel) from SF1 , for hangar screen for F-15 baz, it worked, it showed in the plane's hangar screen. I made jpg with alpha channel, but it doesn't work. The game loads its stock screen for F-15A Baz. SF2 doesn't accept jpg with alpha channel ?

    ^ It needed saying. I'd also add that if your decals question has been answered then stop adding totally different questions here! Try to work it out yourself and if you can't figure it out then ask a new question in a new topic. I've moved from SF1 to SF2 recently and had a problem. I asked for help, received a helpful reply and thanked my helper. All done and dusted in three posts. OK. Now to offer some help. If your hangar screen isn't working and you are 100% certain that there are no typo's then check that your hangar screen doesn't have two (or more) layers and that the alpha channel isn't still there (in GIMP layer>transparency>remove alpha channel).

    More news for anyone coming across this thread is that Felizpe on the A2A BoB2 forum reports a solution to playing BoB2 in Win 8, which though not tried, may also work in Win 10. The salient point is it works only up & including BDG 2.01. I'm not sure if that wasn't already known or suspected but just in case... http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=67364 My current RAF commander campaign is still running fine in Win 7, apart from two random early-mission CTDs, which may have been down to programs running in the background at that time, since msconfig'ed out of the picture.

    McDonnell Douglas F-4EZ Phantom - No.2 Squadron, South African Air Force, 1981 During the mid-1970's the South African Government made tentative enquiries regarding purchasing the McDonnell Douglas Phantom for the South African Air Force (SAAF) with no success but in February 1977 the incoming Democrat President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, and the South African State President Nicolaas Diederichs agreed to the purchase of 30 F-4EZ's for delivery in 1979 and these were among the very last St. Louis-built Phantoms produced. Entering service with No.2 Squadron 'The Flying Cheetahs' of the SAAF the F-4EZ's initially operated from Hoedspruit AFB before moving to Louis Trichardt AFB in early 1993. With SAAF Impalas, Buccaneers and Mirage F.1CZ's operating in the ground-attack role the Phantoms saw limited action in the Border War but at least four Angolan MiG-21's and two Mi-17 helicopters were shot down by No.2 Squadron. The current focus is on: Target of Opportunity (TOO) and Pre-Briefed (PB) HARM modes. Once complete, we will start work on the Litening II targeting pod for the Hornet; the ATFLIR will come at a later point in early access. Note that US Marine Corps Hornet’s operate the Litening II pod. New DCS World Features Available now in the Open Beta and coming soon, are two new features for DCS World: Wake Turbulence. Just like the wake behind a ship, an aircraft also produces a turbulence wake behind it, with the strongest forces coming off the wingtips as vortices. DCS World will now be modeling these as an option and will add a new level of realism and challenge when flying formations, aerial refueling, and air-to-air combat. Battle Damage Assessment. Displayed along the left side of the screen when a target is damaged or destroyed by the player, these notifications appear. A red notification indicates a destroyed target and a yellow notification with a percentage indicates a damaged target. When in the cockpit, it can often be difficult to know if a target was hit and damaged. This optional feature is provided to remove that mystery. DCS: MiG-19P Farmer Update The MiG-19P was originally planned for a release in January, but after an extensive review of the MiG-19, we and RAZBAM have decided to postpone its release until a few items are resolved. These include some needed improvements to the flight model and documentation.     This will tell you how to change to 'year spread' of the game; making it cover a wider range of calendar years, and not having to mess with aircraft data ini service years, which should NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER!!!! be messed with. The ServiceYear= entries of an aircraft should only be adjusted when you are 1) creating a 'nation specific' version that has carved in stone, hard data service years, or 2) correcting a mistake in said service dates That's covered in another thread in the KB, and not truely relevant here. Ok, there are 2 files you need to tweek for expanding the available years in ANY of the 3rd Wire games. Options.ini Singlemission.ini* (*SingleMission.ini is optional, but add more targets and Fun Factor ™ to missions) Options ini is found in the root directory of your game ie: assuming the standard install path, C:\Users\*nameofuser*\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 or whatever mod folder that EACH of the SF2 exes (SF2:V, SF2:I, SF2:E, and expansion paks 1 & 2) you may have created. Open the options ini in any text editor; notepad works really good, and scroll down until you find these entries: StartYear= EndYear= There'll be 3 of them, one in each of the entries for SingleMission, DogFightHost and CoOpMission. Now, mind you as SF2 dosen't have any multiplayer, they really don't do anything now. But, adjust them anyways. Change the start and end years; I try use at least a 100 year spread, due to having several WW2 installs. So, it can look something like this for your normal, jets install: If you have aircraft pre-dating these years, use the entries below (this will include ALL WW2 style aircraft): Plenty of leeway there, given as with the SF2 expansion paks we have WW2 aircraft, and immeadeate post-war aircraft readily available (Mustang, Spitfire, Meteor, Mig-15, Yak-23; you get the idea) Save and Close the Options ini. Now, using the 3rd Wire Cat Extractor, available here at CA in the SF2 Downloads/Utilities section, open the MissionData001.Cat, and extract the SingleMission.ini. Place it into your mods folders /Flight folder. Open the SingleMission ini, and you'll see this: [TargetValues] MinStrikeTargetValue=100 HeavyStrikeValue=1000 NormalStrikeValue=200 These show the 'minimum value' for targets on the Strike Missions. Since us Terraformers put all kinds of interesting stuff on the terrains, many that have values far below those stock ones, do this: This will give a wider variety of targets, based on values assigned in each terrain's **_types.ini. The targets are assigned randomly in single missions, and semi-randomly/partly scripted in campaigns. So, in some missions, you might find yourself being tasked against a high value target such as a HQ building, or something as lowly as a single tent or parked Jeep/BRDM. Save and close the SingleMission.ini That's it...your done! Go Fly!! Wrench kevin stein
