Ah yes, now if was a totally revamped done over improved MkIII version of the game I think no one would have an issue, however, I have a sneaking suspicion that this will just be a tweaked version of what we already have, I cant see TK being arsed to do anything exceptional, because if he was interested in doing so, he would already have done as such. I would love to see my cynical outlook disproved, if that were indeed the case, then take my damn money !! also if it was done so it merged the First Eagles AND the SF engines into one, that would be outstanding also , by that I mean update the FE engine as well to make it fully compatible with the SF one, not to release it all as one amalgamated package, at the end of the day, TK has to make his money back. So, please prove me wrong, I shall be the first in line to chuck my money at the sim, especially if a MKIII FE is involved as well . Until that time, I shall remain skeptical and cynical.

It is basically SF3 guys....just no where near as good as you dreamed........but feel free to prove me wrong TK.

I understand Trotski point of view, but I have poured thousands of hours in SF series, both playing and modding, and If we have a small chance of getting some update I'm more than happy, now a TOD editor would be the cherry at the top, cause it will allow us to improve the terrains we have and add 10 more years of life to the series.

Got a new computer asap since I use it for work also. Slowly building my mods back from what was in my back ups.

I played with the settings in the data.ini and now i have the better looking water, which we know from SF2. Screenshots: Two FW-187 get "dry feets" while closing to Manston AB.

I prefer the TW F-14 because it has a radar display. I wish MF put the radar screen in the cockpit or else I would fly those. If I'm doing strike missions (if I ever use the Tomcat) I'd use the MF birds.

I just discovered that there is another undocumented airfield, Quang To: A few overview maps on some Vietnam War books call it Quang Ti (not to be confused with Quang Tri). There is absolutely no record of this airfield, the same case of Ben Loi/Dan Loi/Do Khe airfield. I wonder if those airfields really existed or were just American myths. I have not found info about them among Vietnamese sources. I'd be surprised to be proven wrong.

Keep at it Russ, will be great in the end. And get advice from @yakarov79 - he is the absolute best helo expert out there.

I mean you need an animation slot if you want to hide pilot on flightline aircraft.
  15. 2 points
yes it works need proper nodes names. but it will show pilot in parked aircraft on the flight line... but there is also a solution - you can animate - hide pilot for parking animation. But then there is a different sequence of parenting nodes - and in that case, the head movement does not work. But head still can be animated via SystemType=GUNNER_STATION trick. I did that in my Harrier. pro the pilot is part of the model that gives the chance to make a more personalized crew for each aircraft, decals on the face, helmet etc....(wonder if someone noticed that in Harriers some squadrons have decal sets for pilot helmets) et contra: it will eat one animation slot for sure (hide), adds polycount to model (not issue actually in fact - but some might think so) - generally adds more work to model, In my opinion - it is a nice touch worth trying.

SF2 was coded for Windows Vista, which inadvertently made it compatible with Windows 7. Windows 10 and the hardware drivers supporting it are a moving target. Don't expect any noticeable code changes if SF2 already runs well on your Win10 pc. What is coming will eliminate some problems under the hood and allow TK to market SF2 as a proper Win10 compatible game. Bringing the game up to Windows 10 coding standards also paves the way for future development, should TK believe it may be profitable again. I can't think of a single sim that stepped into the niche that SF2 filled: the Jane's Fighters Anthology lite survey sim. But his timing may be a little late as ED is going to release a dumbed down version of DCS World with all the main fighters in one package, which will inherently feature the things SF2 was always missing: multiplayer, recording missions, ejection sequences, and maybe air-to-air refueling. But the beauty of SF2 is that presumably most if not all of the previous SF2 mods will still be compatible, maintaining SF2's huge advantage: comprehensive libraries of aircraft, vehicles, ships, and maps from all eras of aviation from WWI to the recent past. If TK could afford to shoe-horn in a newer graphics engine and provide the plugins and tools needed to update existing models and create new, massively updated terrains, he would have a winner.

Don't you just love it when the game picks the deck aircraft from the same airwing that you're flying!
  19. 1 point
The flightmodel of TW F-14 is the one, which fits best to the other stock planes in game. So the stock F-14A is for me the best choice.
  20. 1 point
But ED won't have flyable jets like the... F-15J F-2A F-35 That's just for starters....... nor the ability to make additional terrains. Sorry not sorry I prefer SF2, what Jane's Fighter Anthology should have been.

I can't fault Thirdwire here considering the money and time he has to invest in this. He is a one man business so I would hope that he is paid something for that work The Kickstarter (or whatever) for this was no where near but he is still giving it away to those very few that wanted it to go on. To make SF2 a viable ongoing business stream from now it needs some very visible major changes of which I doubt we will see.

Notice too that the flyable aircraft include the F-105 Thunderchief and the F-8 Crusader, which were not in the Windows 7 version of the original Strike Fighters. I bet we will see those two implemented into updated Dhimar vs. Paran campaigns where they weren't available without a bit of modding or campaign editing. Maybe I'm being too hopeful, but having both the F-8 and A-4 could be justification for carriers to be added into the vanilla desert campaigns too right off the bat. It always bothered me a little that the Navy F-4s and A-4s were just flying out of land bases in the vanilla game when there is a sea taking up half the map.

Also people who donated will get this too btw,in case you have forgotten... its really a major update to iron out the problems such as directx 10 issues we had...I think its going to have selectable DXversions 9\10\11 possibly... I know that the directx10 issues was the main reason for update....anything else is a bonus....add on a\c eh ? wonder what ones......sounds good...

AV-8B Plus Harrier Marina Militare This is the AV-8B Plus Harrier in service with the Italian navy. Basic modding skills are required to run this mod. (copy/paste, mod folder structure etc.) A fake pilot is needed to run this mod. It is designed for and works only in SF2 series. Skin is in 4096x4096 format. So you can easily resize down. If you have problems running this in game. Resize skins to lower resolutions All serials are correct for the Italian version of Harrier II. Animations: 1= canopy open - close 4= refueling probe - beware of a speed limit 3= night vision mode - not really helping but it is there - inside and outside animation. ************************************************************************************ You can exlplore ini files for some additional features like in cockpit "FLIR" feed on HUD . AAQ-28 can be loaded only on station number 5 and centerline AIM-120 can be loaded only on stations 2 and 6. ECM also activates RWR on digital display indicator - even if ECM pod is not loaded. If you have yakarov79´s AV-8B Harrier already - some files are same so simply overwrite. for proper sound work you should add these lines into soundlist.ini SoundFileXXX=USMComm_1 SoundFileXXX=Equalizer [Equalizer] Priority=NORMAL Looped=TRUE NumBuffers=2 3DSound=TRUE DopplerEffect=FALSE MaxDist=1000.000000 MinDist=100.000000 InsideConeAngle=360 OutsideConeAngle=360 ConeOutsideVolume=100 SoundFileXXX=USMComm_1 [USMComm_1] Priority=NORMAL 3DSound=FALSE NumBuffers=1 Looped=TRUE FrequencyControl=FALSE ************************************************************************************ Credits.
