  1. Great to see this mod of mine being talked about after all this time. Thanks for the write-up. I really need to revisit this to remind myself what I did. These days I seem to be immersed only in DCS. Time for a SF2E social perhaps? All the best. Kind regards, comrpnt.
  2. File Name: In Memory of LCDR Dennis Pike - MIA March 23, 1972 (WOV) File Submitter: comrpnt File Submitted: 7 Feb 2009 File Category: User Made Missions Welcome This mission pack replicates the final mission of Lt. Cmdr. Dennis Stanley Pike (USN), that took place over the Vietnam/Laos border on March 23, 1972. In that mission Lt. Cmdr. Pike and his wingman, Cmdr. Robert Taylor (USN) – commanding officer of Attack Squadron 192 – were flying A-7E aircraft assisting ground-based government forces being overrun by Viet Cong guerrillas, and also a downed T-28 with American pilot and Vietnamese observer in the same area. After forty minutes over the target area both aircraft were heading homeward, when Cmdr. Taylor received a call from Lt. Cmdr. Pike related to “oil pressure problems”. Moments later – and still 20 miles inside the Laotian border - Pike’s A-7E engine failed. Cmdr Taylor saw Lt. Cmdr. Pike eject from the aircraft. No trace of Lt. Cmdr. Dennis Pike has ever been found since. Loss coordinates were 152200N 1073400E (YC755030), and in 1973 his status was recorded as Missing In Action. IMPORTANT This mission pack has been tested with the October 2008 patch for Wings Over Vietnam (WOV). 3. U-2 Grand Tour Mission Pack by comrpnt

INI changes - The What and Why As requested, here is a breakdown of the INI changes required to get this mission pack installed and running successfully. _Targets.ini Date specific definitions required to setup the mission briefing text for the U-2 and VPAF missions. These defns. disappear from the terrain after the specified date so as not to contaminate it for dates outside the range of the mission pack. Target defns. for SAM sites at most of the VPAF airbases, with accompanying AAA protection nearby. This is to enhance the realism of the missions, especially the U-2 grand tour. Despite little effectiveness above, say 50k feet, it's still quite unnerving sitting in a U-2 waiting for multitudes of SA-2s to pass harmlessly by. Even at 70k feet, these SAMs will exceed the U-2 ceiling. _Types.ini Enhanced detection values for EWR and SAM radar units, and SAMs - to improve the chance of detection and cause many more SAMs to be fired as the U-2 flys overhead. Introduction of dummy enemy position type, for use with mission text _Targets (see above). U-2_Data.ini Adjust default [MissionData] ceiling value to enable it to reach 70k feet. Without this change the U-2 model will only reach ~65k feet. Adjust [FlightControl] values to enable it to climb quicker to max. altitude and cruise slightly faster to avoid near stall characteristic, which under AI control looked strange with constant pitch-up and correction. Engine emitter change - obvious - given how 'clean' the J57-P37A was (not!). MiG-19PM_Data.ini The [RadarStation] and [RadarStation] x,y,z changes bury the two fake pilot objects inside the fuselage so that they don't appear in external views of this add-on. This was a cosmetic bug left in by the original developer. My changes simply fix the bug without changing the operation of the model. The [LeftWingStationOutboard] and [RightWingStationOutboard] changes enable the aircraft to attach infra-red missiles. Otherwise the Atoll-As will not be permitted to attach, even during manual loadout. _LOADOUT.ini Changes are made to the [AirToAir] weapon points used to attach air-to-air missiles, replacing the stock defns. This ensures that the Atoll-A is used. Loadouts are defined in the mission files, so there should be no need to manually load the aircraft before each mission. This change helped to automate the loading process. The remaining add-on aircraft and stock aircraft changes have similar effects to those described above. i.e. to raise the ceiling altitude and provide fixing points for A2A missiles. Hopefully that explains everything. Regards, comrpnt (Southampton, UK)

U-2 Grand Tour Missions over North Vietnam (1966) by comrpnt Welcome Welcome to a small set of missions related to the USAF's use of the U-2 over North Vietnam during the mid-1960s. This mission pack was inspired by Giles Whittell's excellent book Bridge of Spies. This mission pack is designed to work with ThirdWire's StrikeFighters - Series 1, Wings Over Vietnam (WOV), patched to October 2008. Note that some external add-ons are required to carry out the missions in this pack. Missions included in this pack The following missions are available in this pack; fly as the U-2 pilot over key strategic targets in North Vietnam, avoiding a multitude of SAMs and interceptors that attempt to engage you, or fly as a pilot of the Vietnam People's Air Force and attempt to 'down' the U-2 as it violates your airspace. Each mission takes place early in the morning, in daylight conditions with broken cloud. Note that daylight operations were required to assist the array of cameras on board the U-2. For each mission, waypoints are provided to guide you. U-2 Grand Tour In a U-2A, take off from RTAFB Ubon and head, at altitude (~70k ft), for the border with North Vietnam, south of the disused airbase at Dong Hoi. Then head north towards Hanoi, before heading south-east to Haiphong, and then turn south-west for the long trip home. U-2 intercept (MiG-19) Attempt to intercept the U-2 as it enters your airspace, south-west of Dong Hoi. Depart from the VPAF airbase at Ben Loi, west of Vinh Son. U-2 intercept (MiG-21) Using the more advanced MiG-21, attempt to intercept the U-2 as it continues to make its way north to the capital, Hanoi, and then escapes south and west via Haiphong. Depart from the VPAF airbase at Bai Thuong, south of Hanoi. Acknowledgements, Disclaimer and Terms Thank you to all those modders who have provided the prerequisites I have used in this mission pack. If there are any problems with these missions and my own modifications, then please contact me directly, not the authors of the prerequisites. Released under Fair-Use terms, as defined at CombatAce Contents This download includes the following: Details of mandatory prerequisites. Details of optional enhancements to the game engine. Details of changes required to various models INI files to set-up flight characteristics and weapons management. New Target definitions and updates to Type definitions. Mission briefings and maps. Mission files. Good luck. comrpnt (September 2016).

Welcome. This mission pack follows the Operational Conversion Unit (OCU) training undertaken by Pilot Officer Ian Black during 1985/86, the last RAF pilot to qualify on the English Electric Lightning, as documented in his excellent book The Last of the Lightnings (ISBN-10: 075093073X; ISBN-13: 978-0750930734). The missions in this pack are specifically designed to be used with Thirdwire’s Strike Fighters 2 Europe: Expansion Pack 2 (SF2E:Exp2), which introduced all Lightning types to the game. Where possible, stock objects and aircraft are used. Where necessary new aircraft, skins, weapons, and loadouts have been defined and are included in the pack. The missions The missions in this pack form a syllabus for an OCU course, similar to that undertaken by Ian Black at RAF Binbrook, which is broken down into the following phases: Basic aircraft handling. Basic navigation. Basic radar operation. Advanced radar operation. Radar assisted interceptions, with a varying degree of difficulty based on the angle-off of an approaching enemy. Includes high and low altitude, high and low speed, and combinations of these. Air-to-air refuelling (AAR), using radar to acquire the ‘tanker’. Air combat manoeuvres (ACM) against solo and multiple bogeys, using training rounds to record ‘kills’. Air gunnery school, using live weapons against drone targets. Ground gunnery school, using live weapons against static ground targets. Formation flying, culminating in a diamond-9 flypast to celebration OCU graduation. 9. File Name: VMFA-531 Mission Pack 'Gold' (WOV) V1.0 File Submitter: comrpnt File Submitted: 08 Feb 2010 File Category: User Made Missions Welcome Welcome to VMFA-531 Mission Pack 'Gold', for Wings Over Vietnam (WOV). This pack covers the entire set of missions flown by Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 531 (VMFA-531) between the dates of April 13 through April 30, 1965. Where possible I have tried to stay true to the historical write-up of Mike Wanamaker and Lee R. De haven*, given the constraints of the publicly available aircraft and ground objects in WOV. Where necessary, certain stock aircraft and ground objects are used in place of their historical counterparts. *Special mention goes to Ken King (531_Ghost) for commissioning this work. NOTE: This mission pack has been optimized and tested to work with the October 2008 patch for Wings Over Vietnam. VERSION: 1.0 Missions included in this Pack This pack contains over 60 single missions, scripted to reenact the engagements undertaken by the F-4Bs of VMFA-531. You will also get the chance to fly sorties in support of VMFA-531 in other aircraft, such as the A-6A, F-100D (acting as a Misty fast FAC) and the F-105D. Acknowledgements, Disclaimer and Terms Thank you to all those modders that have provided the prerequisites I have used in my mission packs. If there are any problems with these missions and my own modifications, then please contact me directly, not the authors of the prerequisites. Note that some models used by this pack may have different terms and conditions (consult the accompanying documentation for details). Released under Fair-Use terms, as defined at CombatAce Special thanks Some contributors deserve a special mention, either for explicitly granting me permission to include their work in this pack, or for publishing their work under the aforementioned Fair-Use terms at CombatAce, and therefore permitting its inclusion in whole or in part in this pack*: Kesselbrut – US_Squad_early and VC_Squad ground forces, updated by TeTeT**. Ravenclaw_007 – Martin Baker Mk7 Ejection Seat, used in F-4B. Suicidal – Type-21 Frigate. Sundowner – VMFA-531 (early) F-4B skins. Swambast – M18 smoke canisters, used with the marker smoke effects in missions involving US ground troops. Veltro2K – C-141A transport aircraft, and KC-135 tanker aircraft. *Please contact me if you feel this list is incomplete or contains errors. Thank you. **Included in this pack after consultation with USAFMTL. Contents This mission pack replaces all previous VMFA-531 mission packs that I have published since late 2007. Briefly, the contents are as follows: New smoke marker effects New formations Comprehensive mission briefings documentation 60+ scripted single missions Static aircraft with low-rez skins to populate your airbases during scripted single missions Pilot skins to personalize your strike aircraft FM tweaks to provide an auto-opening canopy for each strike aircraft used by this pack Loadout enhancements to match the ordnance expended during the 'real' missions A static frigate and carrier to replicate carrier task forces for both Yankee and Dixie stations Comprehensive target definitions for each mission, with some enhancements to existing friendly airfields New type definitions to support the new targets Full airfield approach, tall structure anti-collision and ramp flood lighting for all friendly airfields Installation Download this pack to a neutral location on your local machine, extract the files, and then consult the detailed ReadMe for installation instructions. Files are included to drag-drop this mission pack onto a clean install of WOV (patched to October 2008) with minimal configuration required. Detailed instructions are also included to perform a merge-install. A final word This 'Gold' release of the VMFA-531 mission pack completes the set originally published in a series of mission packs from late 2007 onwards. This final version is intended to replace those earlier separate mission packs by offering everything in one place, re-written and enhanced to make full use of the October 2008 patched version of Wings Over Vietnam. The work presented here is the culmination of over 2 years worth of effort. I had a lot of fun doing it, learned a lot, and met some good people along the way. I hope that you enjoy it. I think you will. Good luck. comrpnt (February 2010). Click here to download this file

  16. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...ode=sst&id=4315 File Name: Static WOE Stock Aircraft Pack File Submitter: comrpnt File Submitted: 10 Mar 2007 File Updated: 16 Feb 2008 File Category: Static Aircraft File Version: 1.1 Website: No Information This mod includes .ini files and details on how to make static versions of all of the stock aircraft in WOE, to populate your airfields. [updated to v1.1] I included too many statics in the v1.0 pack - due to my 'clean' WOE install not being as clean as I had envisaged (I had inadvertantly added Carrier-based aircraft to my clean WOE install without mentioning where they could be sourced. Oops. Sorry about that). This new pack now contains just the original (out-of-the-box) static aircraft for WOE. [Credits] Many thanks to TK for providing the originals as part of WOE. If there are any problems with these mods then please contact me directly, not ThirdWire. Thanks. [Light and Heavy Statics] There are two versions of the stock statics included here: light statics and heavy statics. Light = Friendly aircraft, minimal hit on FPS, not destroyable Heavy = Enemy aircraft, full detail and destroyable (ideal for strafing missions!) Installation instructions are included in the readme. [sample Statics Display Mission] I've included a sample mission file _Stock WOE Static Lineup.msn for you to see each Static in the game and get some idea how you display and position them. comrpnt 02/2008 Click here to download this file
  17. Interesting project - I like it! :-) Count me in if you guys need any historical mission authoring. Cheers, regards, comrpnt.
  18. Chapeau Jeff, good to know you and great working with you these past few years. Stary, your last remark had me in stitches. For me it says it all about why I've mostly been absent from contributing to SF2 (single mission) mods. Streakeagle said it too - every time there is a new patch you live in fear of it wiping out the work you've done so far on your next mod. For the work I do on mission writing I'm finding that I'm now locked out of many features that I used to rely on for eye-candy and that extra bit of immersion for historical accuracy. For example, weather settings (clouds!) and AI behaviour when starting on the ground at the same airfield. My favorite mod'able platform is still SF1 series of games, patched to October 2008.
