  1. Hay guys,

Does anyone know where the texture skins for the A-4 IRMrails are? I know they are not in the individual texture folders like the droptanks are but I believe they are a node of the aircrafts model like the droptanks. Does anyone know the game handles the rails, where the texture is and what they are called?

    Cheers,

    Dan.

What you need is a file called 'missile_rail.bmp'. It is in ObjectData001.cat.

  2. For example, Syria is included in the IsraelME terrain and started using SA-8 since 1983 but when I choose SEAD missions after 1983, SA-8 SAM system doesn't appear.

Extract the SA-8_data.ini with the Cat Extractor, then change the 'MOBILE_SAM' variable to 'MOBILE_AAA'. IIRC objects defined as MOBILE_SAM appear during CAS missions only.

  3. Actually, while I'm at it; has anyone been having problems with add-on skins for stock aircraft? I'm scratching my head cos although I've correctly typed and stated the service, squadron, etc. of the skin in the textureset and main aircraft INI folders, these supposedly stock squadrons won't show in the loadout directory. In these cases it won't even let me choose the squadron. One add on Marine skin won't even show the service!

    Piecemeal,

Supposedly, your decals.ini files do not contain any nation or squadron specific entries (DecalLevel=0 and DecalLevel=1). It seems that after the patch these are supposed to be there in order to change the service and the squadron. This can be solved by adding ‘blank’ entries with nothing given in the ‘FilenameFormat=’ line.

  4. In early Su-9 production, there were provisions for fitting a Nudelman-Rikhter NR-30 30 millimeter cannon in each wingroot, but no Su-9s carried cannons in service. In later production the cannon provisions were eliminated, with fuel tanks inserted in their place. Early production machines had a blast plate on each side of the fuselage where the cannon muzzle was supposed to be; the blast plates were deleted when the cannon provisions were eliminated. There was a gun camera in the right wing.

  5. Guys,

I may have stumbled upon another method of saving disk space and memory.

Has anyone else noticed that jpg files can be used as aircraft (and, possibly, ground object) textures? I just did a quick test by converting the texture bitmaps to jpg files and hex editing the texture name entries in the aircraft's lod file, and it seems to work.

I assume that it only works in case of the 2nd gen series, because I successfully tested this in SF2E, but no joy in WoE.

The aircraft lod I edited was the 1st gen stock F-104G. I have no software that can properly hex edit the new format SF2 lods, so that's yet to be checked.

  6. The two F-4S squadrons based on the USS Forestall were responsible for over 60% of all intercepts of all Libyan aircraft that attempted to harass US warships conducting "missile test exercises" off the cost of Libya in the days leading up to the gulf of sidra incident. At that time Reagan was keeping a large naval presence in the Mediterranean sea, The war games of 1981 and 1982 were a way testing readiness while keeping pressure on Khadaffy and keeping a force close at hand should the problems in Lebanon escalate further.

VF-302 sent 6 F-4S phantoms to the med for the games. VF-302 operated from both the USS Forestall and Naval air station Sigonella on the island of Sicily for the games in the med, and flew some mock combat over the Italian Alps as well They wore a mix of heater Ferris and overall gull Gray low vis paint schemes There is an exact match for the stallions overall gray 36440 low vis scheme in the downloads section we just need the Heater Ferris which was applied as a mirror image --- in the the opposite direction of her sister squadron VF-301.

    Thank you for the details.

  7. VF-302 sent a a detachment to the med for "war games" in 1982 They operated off of the USS Forestall allongside VF-103 and VF-74 and made

for a nice show of force in the Med after the gulf of sidra incident helping to keep Khadaffi thinking about the consequences harassing US warships.

Do you happen to have more info or any pix on this VF-302 deployment? I couldn't find anything. Thanks.

  8. Alaskan Air Command F-4E (for WoV & WoE)

AAC F-4E (for WoV & WoE)

This texture and decal pack was made at the request of Rick1, who served in the AAC.

The skin depicts the F-4Es assigned to the 21st TFW in the late ‘70s. The 21st TFW was under the Alaskan Air Command and, at the time, had two tactical flying units, namely, the 18th and the 43rd TFS (markings included for both units).

See instructions and credits in the attached readme. Texture resolution is 1024x1024.

    Have fun!

  9. yes i was 21st combat security police anti-terroist ie Russian unit. carried m-16 with m203 grenade launcher. guarded aircraft, people, buildings, bomb dumps etc.

Wow. Sounds exciting. Thank you for the answer.

I hope you can tweak it to sp1.

Tweaking won't be a problem (maybe I'll release it for both SF1 and 2), it just takes some time. I'll try to get to it ASAP.

if i had the patience and time i would write a book might look into maybe wringt an e-book or something like that!

    Now that's a brilliant idea!

  10. yeah i have pics of the f4s on my facebook page iwas stationed there until oct 1981 loved every minute of it. the f4s rock man i could write a book about some of the stuff i was involved in up there!! the planes look great by the way its the 18th and 43rd squadrons thx!!!

and also its sf1 woe thx!

Great pix! I wanted to make the polar bear version with the blue rudder and fincap (IIRC 18th TFS), but couldn't find a clear and close up image of it.

Please write a book!!! I'd definitely buy it. (I mean it.) :)

The skin is currently SF2. I think some minor modification needs to be done beacuse of mapping differences between the old and the new F-4E models (and some slight decal corrections are needed as well). Anyway, the skin will be uploaded within a few days.

PS: May I ask what your job was in the AAC?

  11. Gads - almost two years have gone by since this original thread of mine. I am still working in my spare time on the various F-4 versions with correct serial numbers and markings - I am finalizing an F-4B and F-4E again based on the original work of Dave Hobbs. If you liked my earlier F-4C versions, you'll like these. I also passed along an F-4D model to X RAY soon to appear here to go along with a project that he is working on (although I just found a few errors on the model).

It's good to know that you're still working on improving the details, thank you. I really like your detailed parts (and models), my favourite is the correct undernose RHAW fairing on the F-4D. (Shame that it can't be repainted, so I can't use it on my Hill Grey F-4Ds, but I can't have it all, can I?) :)

If you need them for SF2, you will need to adapt them yourself though - I stuck with the 1st generation series. In the meantime, the Mirage Factory ARN-101 version of the F-4E is still very good and highly recommended, and like Dave said, they are still available here for both series, and you can't beat the superb hi-resolution skins and markings that Sundowner and others have created for them.

Like I said above, I have the TMF ARNie F-4E and it's really a masterpiece. But I also like fiddling with my little mods (mainly skins and decals), that was the reason why I dared to ask about these parts. Thank you for your answer (and your mods).

  12. I have lots of little parts I need for myself - TISEO, ADSID, SUU-7, the BLU-1s without the end caps, maybe a new CL 600 gal tank, ARN-101 on F-4E spine, and on and on. The possibilities now are virtually endless.

    Hi Mike,

I'm curious to know (therefore I am HUMBLY asking) if you still plan to make these (I'm especially interested in the TISEO and the ARN-101 spine fairing). Thank you.
