  1. For me, usually I just want better graphics and improved (over the previous version, not modern-day HAL) AI.

Hell, for some old classics just give me the SAME game with a modern update! I'd pay full price for "Ghost Recon 2012" being nothing more than a DX11-enabled remake of the original, maybe with the caveat of seeing the gun in FP instead of just a crosshair. Other than that (ok, maybe get rid of the pointless banter at the start of each mission that just seems WAY lame) I'd be fine with it as-is!

Yes, there are lots of lame gamers who do just that...whine that the game is either too similar or too different (a lot like how people will be with film sequels)...but I think those are people who think it's cool to complain. Can't risk letting anyone know you like something unless it's old. So X is crap until the sequel, then X was good and the sequel sucked. But I ignore their opinions, they're not informed, just whiny.

  2. It's supposedly a co-development deal (another article made clear that PAK-FA was NOT a production-ready model, but just a prototype...more X-35 than F-35 or YF-22 than F-22A) so hopefully for their money they'll get something decent.

Sometimes I get the feeling that Russian organized crime runs their defense industry. I know there's corruption, but sometimes it seems more like outright extortion.

  3. Ubi will do what it's always done...make games that it thinks people wants apparently based on reading goat entrails or something.

Doesn't matter how well a game sold, the next game "has to broaden the appeal" by making it as much like the next game as possible.

  4. The sad part is how long it took. It should've been in service long ago. That carrier was literally being built when the USSR collapsed, and after wallowing about for years India bought it but it's STILL taken forever to get it going.

It's like Russia looked at it like a great welfare program for its defense shipbuilders, but didn't want to hire too many. So instead of getting it done in a few years, let's have 1/4 as many people as we should on it and just give them jobs for a decade or so working on JUST this.

  5. I like Race 07 and its expansions. The one is called Retro and it has these:

    • 1968 Volvo Amazon
    • 1972 Volvo P1800 ES
    • 1971 BMW 2002
    • 1968 Mini Cooper S
    • 1971 Opel Commodore GS 3001
    • 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL
    • 1974 Chevrolet Corvette
    • 1970 Chevrolet Camaro

Not sure why the C&P put that in there, it was since it was outta Steam I guess.

Race On, GTR Evo, STCC, WTCC...there are a ton of cars and tracks in them. I have GT Legends installed as well. Haven't had GTR2 installed in awhile, but might get back to it.

Oh, you can tweak the setups but there are no "new parts". It's more a classic racing game.

  6. Maybe it's me, but I put this up there with Fighter Ops putting up a Kickstarter campaign. I can't remember how many years ago I saw GB's first announcement. All this time later and I guess it basically had less than 1 guy working in his free time? I say that because TK is 1 guy working full time and in the amount of time GB has been "in development" he's released all his SF2 titles...maybe going back to WOI and earlier even.

So, I have no faith in them at this point. I might care if I knew this was going to happen.

  7. Yes, calling it Total Recall was certainly a mistake in that regard. It's like if they did another adaptation of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" and once again called it Blade Runner.

  8. Are you talking about Hell Freezes Over? Geez, that album was almost 20 years ago now!

Anyway, two things happen to singers: they either get old to the point that they no longer sound as good, or they die. No middle ground there.

  9. That's a misconception. This has nothing do with the 1990 film. This is the Dick short story "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale" re-adapted. So no Mars (which wasn't in the short story) for one.

Like the 2005 War of the Worlds wasn't a remake of the 1950's one, it went back to the book and took its own spin.

  10. With the US using front-line equipment there, there's no way Soviet spies weren't present to get what they could. Either from POWs, wreckage, observing tactics, etc. You don't just rely on the NVA to pass that stuff to you 2nd-hand.

As for how much they actually FOUGHT there, that's open to debate. They WERE there, though.

  11. It can carry the AGM-88, but I'm not sure about the specialized electronics the F-16 usually carries (that enabled it to supplant the F-4G...mostly) that lets it fire them with more precision. I don't think the E has those internally nor can it carry that pod outside.

Likewise the EA-6B I think fires the 88 more accurately than either Hornet.

  12. I don't get it myself. My guess is many find Sweden too "left leaning" for their tastes, so perhaps that colors all dealings, but personally I see no more reason for that than I do US-Indian tensions. I'd rather have India as a friend than double-dealing Pakistan!

Frankly I think the Gripen would've been a great F-16 replacement, especially with the F-35s long-delayed gestation, but of course even with a US engine and maybe radar and cockpit stuff the odds of the US buying a Swedish fighter are none and zero!

  13. Wow, the Draken's nose-high attitude on landing is quite remarkable! Those tail bumpers must be quite worn.

Actually, the funniest thing to me is your referrals to the Blackhawk, perhaps considered one of the most mundane things the US flies due to their vast numbers and ubiquitous presence. I was once on a trip in Islamorada or Marathon, one of the Florida Keys, just going down to the beach and there was a US Customs 60 parked on the grass next to the parking lot and the crew in one of the gazebos there eating lunch. Frankly, their glossy black and gold scheme I find the most attractive scheme of any 60.

  14. Also, saying "go in the house" is one thing. It stated the guy's wife and infant were getting out of the car or something? You know that can take several minutes to accomplish, and a dog running straight at you can be there in just seconds.

I suppose he could've tried a warning shot into the ground in front of it first, but maybe again he didn't feel the time was there.

  15. I think Scott backed off calling it an Alien prequel because perhaps some felt it wasn't close enough to seem like an Alien flick. I also don't know that there's any of the actual Alien in it! Sure there's Space Jockey, the ship, the company, the androids, the universe etc, but if you don't have that egg/facehugger/chestburster/drone thing, is it still Alien?

They took the easy way and tried to have it stand alone.

  16. betcha he didn't forsee that one!

wasn't there something in the news recently also about going back to stovl F-35s instead of catobar? would kind of scotch the deal you guys were gonna have with the french to share a CVN....

Yes, the cost to fit the new carriers with full cat gear was spiraling upwards, and it became cheaper once again to get the B (along with B getting out of its development hell that it had been in).

I never heard they would "share" a CV, they were going to share a common design. I can't imagine time sharing an aircraft carrier! The logistics would be so difficult.

  17. I'm surprised no one's mentioned Company of Heroes? When I need a break from flight sims I load up a CoH skirmish against the computer, kick back, and have at it. CoH is R&R for me, I love how I can order those little guys around and they always do exactly what I say... that never happens in my real life! Or flight sims for that matter.

Really dig GT Legends. I have GTR2 installed too, but almost always play Legends - love those fat rimmed seveties tin-tops. The Mazda RX-3 mod is my favourite since a souped up RX-3 coupe was my first car when I was eighteen (loved that car). Now I'm a responsible family man I have to ride the friggin' bus.

I never seem to find the time but I like Mass Effect 2 on the kid's XBOX 360 - have to finish it soon 'cos Mass Effect 3 will be hitting the bargain bins soon. My youngest boy plays Assassin's Creed, I really like the architecture of all things - go figure. :dntknw:

And I got Silent Hunter 3 installed and a bunch of mods downloaded - done the tutorial missions and like it a lot, but that sucker really soaks up the hours so I don't know if I'll ever find the time...

After over 400 hrs, I finally uninstalled CoH and its expansions last year. Had to spend time on the newer games!

I keep meaning to reinstall GTR2, but I have only so much time I can race, and with the ones I have already going I know I'd never touch it.
