  1. Not available yet AFAIK, I'm also looking forward to it, it's a great aircraft, hope Cent can release a beta so we all can fly it.

Correct, forgot to mention that. The role it plays is quite minor tho, especially since SF2 does not support the FAC role anymore. I hope to have a beta ready sooner rather than later. The mod also references the still unreleased KF-5E, I also hope to release that one soonish.

  2. 'Ello guys

Thought I'd share a campaign I have working with you as the chances of me finishing it on my own seem to be rather slim.

    Background:

As communist hardliners in Moscow depose Gorbachev, NATO forces are on high alert. Eager for a diversion, Soviet intelligence services begin feeding their North Korean allies faked plans that EXERSICE TEAM SPIRIT '85 is actually preparations of a joint ROK/US invasion of the DPRK. Kim Il Sung takes the bait, and launches a pre-emptive strike. As tensions flare in Europe, the USAF and USN must fight with what they have in-region alongside the ROKAF. Hopes are the JASDF will also lend a hand, and that the Soviet Union and People's Republic of China will stay outside of the fight.

    Good luck, and godspeed!

    • Set in 1985
    • Features flyable aircraft of the USAF, USN, USMC and ROK.
    • Intial enemy is DPRK, reinforced later by Soviets and China
    • Fairly realistic ORBAT for blue side
    • Two carrier groups, USS Constellation and USS Carl Vinson, with period accurate squadrons and escorts
    • A (not yet fully working) friendly Amphibious landing
    • A new comprehensive 60+ node ground war. Can be used for Korean war ops too I think

    MODs I used,

    and more probably...

So if anyone is interested give it a try and maybe we can make a complete pack out of this. It flies quite good, the campaign, the best I've done certainly. Installation is just to pop it into the campaigns folder. Take the included Korea3_targets and pop it into the Korea 3 folder, this add a USMC deployment point for the naval invasion.

I have a lot of period skins in the work, I suck at decaling and would gladly hand them over to a good decals guy. These include Wolfpack F-16A skins, USN A-7E and F/A-18A skins..

  3. Let me fix that for you Jonathan:

    1st = Ensimmäinen, 2nd = Toinen, 3rd = Kolmas

    Kansa = people

    Otherwise, looks great!

  4. Actually Easter is crazy busy for me, but after that I have loaded up motivation to finish all the small bits for the A-37B, or at least enough for a public beta.

I found some great A-37 eyecandy in the online national archives btw, which is an awesome source for old photographs. If you for example want to find refs of units in Korea in 1985, just type in EXERCISE TEAM SPIRIT '85 and bam, so much stuff. http://research.archives.gov//search?

  5. Well sure Fubar, but I do feel that when I promise to help on projects it's bad form to not live up to those promises. The thing is I've had to examine my priorities a bit and one thing I found out is I sometimes was using modding/games to avoid doing some other things that really are more important. It's good to take time and let the stress of RL ™ subside doing something like modding, but the break can't be more important. If that makes any sense.

Anyways, thanks everybody, looking forward to getting back in there.

  6. Hello guys,

just wanted to pop in and say I'm sorry for being incommunicado for so long and not doing my part on the various projects on my plate. Just been busy with a mix of RL, other games/mods* and a slight burn out on SF2. However, deep down some itch needs scratching, and that itch is asking for Phantoms and the cold war and dynamic campaigns and ridicoulus modding escapades of airframes only 5 and a half people care about (and they are all here on combat ace and they are all modders too). So maybe I should scratch that itch, eh?  :airplane:

*) The project that has stolen most of my time is this Arma 3 map: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?189257-WIP-The-Lost-Coast-30x30km-terrain-(preview-version-included)

I still intend to bring it forward but I got some people aboard to help me so I won't need to put so much hours into it. If anyone else here are doing Arma3 and would like to help, PM me.

  7. Must say the DCS 2.0 gfx engine is really up to it, looks incredibly nice. I can imagine that the 3rd party terrain market will see a lot of development, because unlike the 3rd party aircraft market you don't need to be an aerospace engineer, you just need to put in a lot of time fleshing out the area. Wonder what the satmap and heightmap resolution is, it looks to be pretty darn good in anycase, esp. heightmap.

  8. Ta-daa!

Works like a boss! Some things needs to be tweaked for  ergonomy but overall so worth it. Got a couple of hours more on the Mi-8 now and can pretty reliably land it, hover, takeoff etc. If you are into helo simming and have the space, I highly recommend this. I will probably write a longer article about this, got a lot of thoughts out of this.

  9. The trainers are a bit of a downer and I agree with you guys that there are a truckload of more interesting birds than the C-101 or Hawk. I am really torn between the two, I dont want to sink close to 100USD on two trainers, on the one hand the Hawk is flown by the FAF, on the other hand the C101 attack version looks pretty fucking neat. And yeah, the Mirage F.1 plans are intriguing as hell, but so is the Eurofigher. I am guessing BTW that they made C101 because they had access to it and pilots and engineers, docs and so on. I still would have prefered something like the F-5B (which would lead to the F-5A). Aviodevs FB page shows a rough F-5B model, so that's something.

Also, can someone tell BST to go back to the whirlybirds? I'll take the Cobra and Hind now, thank you.

  10. Yeah the Tomcat is bound to be great if it really it is. I too hope for the A model because then we can do some pretty awesome Iran/Iraq war scenarios (we'd need the terrain too, mind you..). As for the others, they said to they would cater to almost all our tastes so I am guessing one will be a WW2 warbird? What if they decided to jump on the 50s bandwagon and are making something like a Hawker Hunter or even Tunnan? Whatever it is, it will be great. Personally I hope for more cold war goodness, 1960-1975 timeframe stuff would be ideal!

  11. Thanks! I say go for it, it is surprisingly uncomplicated once you get into it. As I said, flying works remarkebly well and even with the standard low quality potentiometers in the stick. I am now looking into replacing the cheap pots in my Logitech Extreme 3d pro based build with Hall sensors. http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/85431-Successful-repair-of-Logitech-Extreme-3D-PRO/page3and  http://www.jpfiles.com/hardware/uni_stick.pdf

The G940 system apparently is already mostly on hall sensors so no problems there.

This gent seems to have a pretty awesome mod for that stick, though you've probably seen it already:

I think we need a dedicated hardware subforum here!

  12. Behold, the ghetto helicopter stick and rudders! Haven't had time to do the collective yet so just used my saitek throttle for that for now.

I must say the range of motion is really good with the tall stick extension and you can make small corrections easily enough. Flying is hard and I had no idea what I was doing, oblivious to all the gauges in the Mi-8 I just set on out and apart from losing it some times because of overcorrecting I must say I am pretty proud of myself and my little control. I think I will write a little article about this project.

BTW does the Uh-1H module have more training for flying tips? Or should i try BS2 instead?

Here is my third attempt to get airborne and fly around. I botched the landing of course so that's not there but other than that it went quite ok. As of writing this it is still processing so it might be a while before it's avaliable for viewing.

  13. I am probably the unluckiest man alive, because yesterday I went to pick up an Logitech Extreme 3d pro joystick from a local dealer. They only had one in stock so I bought it, score I thought and gladly paid the 55€... When I came back to the shop, some type of sixth sense told me to hook it up and ensure it works before starting to disassemble it. And woudln't you just know it, the damn thing was a dud. Didnt power up at all when I plugged it in.. Tried two different PCs and all the different USB ports. SO that bummed me out, but it didd give me and the guys time to refine the mechanical parts.

Here you go, the rudder pedals work remarkably well considering the low precision they are made with. Time will tell how well I can get the yaw sensor from the twist stick wired up, it will be situated on the small plywood bridge glued to the bolt that comes up there. It's all pretty ghetto but after some matte black paint on there it will look OK, and I have high hopes for the functionality.
