"Stormin" leaves LOMAC, what next??
MadJeff posted a topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Man, I'm starting to feel LOMAC is cursed. :( Carl's announcement today was a surprise, to say the least. I wish him only the best, I've learned in my own life that sometimes you just gotta re-prioritize things, and it's sounds like that's what he's doing. After all, there are a lot more important things in life than this hobby we call simming. But this has got to be a pretty big upheaval for the team. I wonder what kind of delay this is going to cause? We've already had several staff changes that caused delays in the past. I know my fingers are crossed here... :( -

Lastest Release Date?
MadJeff replied to BirdDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I have not heard the latest on going gold, but I have read several encouraging posts about new beta builds, lots of squashed bugs, stuff like that. I think we are starting to see signs of a release soon. :D -
Little Posting Bug
MadJeff replied to Weasel Keeper's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
Fates, let me know if it's still happening now that we are on the new system. That goes for everyone else as well... -
I just whipped out a layout and tested the conversion of the existing XForum over to phpBB2. Take a look at the layout and colors and let me know what you think. All existing users should be able to logon with their existing password and username. Take it for a spin and let me know what you think. :D After I hear your opinions and suggestions I will do the real conversion, probably sometime this weekend. So no messages will be lost, and the transition should be pretty smooth. Just don't post over there yet (at least not anything you want to keep...), as the test database will be wiped and redone. Heheh, guess it would help to post the actual URL... :D ]http://forum.biohazcentral.com

Checking In.
MadJeff replied to Uthor's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks, although it's been a little messy around here the last week... Hopefully things will calm down and I can concentrate on site design now. -
I'm posting this here as well as the main news page. Well, this week has clinched it. We have had several weird line issues here the past week(Bad), combined with the rapid growth we have seen the past few weeks here at Biohaz(Good!), has given me the swift kick in the butt I needed to start getting serious about moving the whole site to a dedicated provider. Up to this point I've ran the site on my DSL line, but it just ain't cuttin' it any more... =) So here's the status. I have the provider picked out and will be setting things up tonight as soon as I get the last few questions answered. I will be doing some fall cleaning on the site in preparation for the move, then hopefully by this weekend I will do the domain transfer and have the site up and running in it's new home. Unfortunately, you guys will have to suffer for a few more days, as well as some slight disruption while the DNS record is pushed out, but I think you will like the new changes. I went with a pretty good package (20Gb/month) so we should be good to go for quite awhile. Stay tuned for more info as it happens.

Actually, no, go ahead and get it ready. If it's ready before the move, I'll go ahead and post it. :D

Little Posting Bug
MadJeff replied to Weasel Keeper's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
Hmm, let's try this... I didn't get the message this time. Try replying and see if it works this time... -
Are people having issues getting on the site the last few days? Things like server not found messages? I noticed it was rather quiet last night and this morning. Of course, if no one's getting on I guess they can't answer this post... I'm on from work right now without problems, but as I headed out from home I noticed the site was not responding, so I restarted Apache. Hmmm, I think it's time I get serious about moving this site to a real Host Provider...
-
Hmm, I'm looking at the site right now from a Mandrake 8.2 box with Mozilla 0.9.8 and it looks perfect on my end. What version of Mozilla are you using on your end?

Little Posting Bug
MadJeff replied to Weasel Keeper's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
Has it done it today? I set the board to not do SMTP email stuff as of about 08:00 system time here. -
I see that, I killed the extra posts. I've got that once or twice too. I temporarily stopped the email-notification while I track down the missing file.

Troubles getting on the site??
MadJeff replied to MadJeff's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
That's it, one is too much... :D I'll start working on moving to a dedicated host provider this week. These problems WILL be resolved... :x -
Just a minute problem with F4 discussion!
MadJeff replied to Denzil's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
Thanks for pointing that out. The only problem I noticed with the conversion script that it tended to do funny things with the first post/topic in a forum. I did a test and it seem to be ok with following topics. I'll keep my eyes on it. -
The conversion is complete and the new forum is up! Take a look around and take it for a test flight. If you notice anything weird, let me know. I will be working on the forum/website user authentication integration next, so it will be single-signon once I'm done.

Mike, thanks for the heads-up on that. I haven't hit the new site with my linux box yet, guess I should do that... =)

Default skins available in the downloads
MadJeff posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Just a quick note for those of you that haven't noticed, I posted the default F-4 and F-104 skins and decals in the downloads area. If you create a skin just send it up and I'll be glad to host it here at BioHaz. -
Where did you see it for 30% off? I may have to snag one myself. After all, I gotta get one for my 6-year old son soon. Got to get him started on the ol' sim habit early! He's already been playing Starcraft and Homeworld pretty proficiently now for almost a year.

I've heard good things about the X-45. It's a good HOTAS for the price, plus it's USB. I have a CH Products setup here, a ForceFX stick and Pro Throttle and Pro Pedals. It was an absolute perfect setup, until I went to XP. Now I have a stck and throttle I can't program because of the gameport issue, and the force feedback driver is not supported in XP. But I'm not willing to go back to Win98. $300+ worth of controllers acting like a $30 setup :x Sorry, rambling here. Get to the point! :D I've been looking for a cheaper HOTAS setup until I can swing a Cougar the first of the year, and I've been looking at the X45 myself. I don't think you can go wrong with that choice.

Very well said Fates! There are some great sims just around the corner, and you can tell how antsy people are getting just by reading the forums. There seems to be a lot of impatient and grumpy users out there lately. It's amazing how much multiplayer has changed how we play games. I remember the first sim I played MP in, Longbow2 right after it came out. I played pilot while someone across the US sat back-seat. After that I never looked at simming the same again. Most games I get now I don't even play the single-player missions. It was over 6 months before I even tried the single-player Mechwarrior4 campaign, and I have yet to finish it. Crushing a computer opponent just doesn't compare to blowing your best friends to virtual hell!

Denzil's new SF:P-1 desktop screens
MadJeff replied to MadJeff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
BTW, I would love to see a Phantom next. [hint hint] -
Send me a button link when you get a chance so I can throw it on the main page. :D

I know, it's nice having the menu, especially when you got 1600x1200 of screen real estate to play with. But the low-res people end up with about 5 words on a line before it wraps... So I figured this would be a good compromise.
