Unless you have modified the instant action mission file, the stock aircraft in IA is the F-4E, which did have a gun. If you use the external view (f6) then you can see that the F-4E has a longer nose with the underslung cannon. The F-4D does not. I have long ago modified my loadout files for the F-4s, so I cannot remember if stock F-4Cs and Ds have the gunpod as part of their default. I just know that they can.

The F-4D Phantom? Most models of the F-4 didn't have a gun. Only the E and F. Cs and Ds occasionally carried a gunpod, but you have to ensure you have one loaded. Navy phatoms never carried one operationally because the gun pods didn't meet safety requirements for carrier operations, though the Marine F-4B and F-4Js did carry pods now and again.

The mods I made were to create a quantity vs. quality situation, kinda like the James Huston novel Balance of Power. The Navy has a single CVW, specifically CVW-14 on it's 2004 Westpac. The mercs/pirates have a large number of refurbished old planes. Most are not a threat 1v1, but in swarms they can be a hassle. They do have a dozen F-4J_74s that can lob missiles at medium range and have sufficient ECM power to spoof even modern radars. I don't mind having missiles flung at me even frequently, but I do have a problem with decrepit old Super Mysteres taking me down with AiM-9Xs or V3Es in high off-boresight shots that could only be made with helmet mounted interfaces.
I like those skins. They look beat up and filthy. I don't think mercs would be flying with pristine machines. At some point, if anyone ever makes a generic skin for the E-1 Tracer, I'll replace the mercenary E-2 Hawkeye with it. They'd more likely use something outdated or maybe even custom if they had AEW at all.

Thanks, WBS, I think that did it. That data line must have been introduced in a recent patch. I've never seen it before.

I'm modifying the Joint Effort campaign into a modern (2004) setting, and I've run into a bit of trouble (the original campaign is ridiculously fun, BTW). I have the specs set to LimitedSupplyList=TRUE, and have limited the weapons available to all squadrons, Trying to keep the Mercenaries from having far-too-advanced weapons like the AiM-9X. But this line doesn't seem to affect the AI squadrons at all, and their elderly jet fighters are still coming into battle using HMS-targeted weapons. I want to know if there is any way to limit what weapons the AI squadrons have at their disposal without just deleting the weapons I don't want them to have or modifying (and therefore probably screwing up) their aircraft's weapons capabilities.
There has to be something I'm missing here. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Do these belong to anybody? I found this VMFA-232 skin for the TMF F/A-18A+ on my HD and I cannot remember where it comes from. Not in the d/l section alone or with any pack. ANy clues? If I have a beta of someone's work I'm not supposed to be showing, I'm sorry.

If you're wanting to do TPS skins for the TMF Tomcat, go find my VF-143 or VF-103 skins for it. They have decal templates for totally individualized aircraft. Also for the TMF texture templates, check the downloads section. They're there and are excellent.

I've had that issue for quite a while now. Never figured out what might be causing it, but I can figure out by the map and loadout what I gotta do.

The Iceland terrain is pretty useful for masking. Lots of Star Wars canyons to fly through. Once I'm feet dry, I never use AP to target. I always follow terrain visually between the mountains. It's stressful, but I enjoy the challenge and pulling SBS at the target.

I may not have noticed before, but this is the first time I've seen Zil-157s toting MIM-14s. Little weird seeing soviet trucks pulling missiles labeled US ARMY.

Taking a little time to actually remind myself why I mod, I've been playing the NA campaign. On the way home from a successful CAP in my F-14 (one stinking Bear. The wingie picked him off), I'm hearing radio calls about some guy with a Mig all over him. Cycling through F6, I find out it's one of a flight of four A-7 Corsairs on an outbound strike being harassed by a Flogger. The -23 guns the poor bastard down and as he goes crashing into the ocean, his flight leader sends out the call that they are under attack and could use some assistance. I'm expecting this to be the usual slaughter until something very abnormal happens. The lead A-7, still fully bombed up, breaks hard right while the rest of the flight continues level with the Mig in pursuit. The leader rolled back left as the Flogger passes by, performs a quick yo-yo for some separation. At this point, the #3 corsair took a minor hit from the Mig and was screaming about it, but the leader levels out behind the Mig and, still fully bombed up, blasts him out of the sky with a sidewinder. He then resumes his lead of the flight and they hit their target at... somewhere with a half-dozen syllables and no vowels in the name before flying home.
I wonder when more aggressive self-defense was added, because I have never seen a flight of AI strikers engage an attacking aircraft, and certainly not while keeping bombs slung. Gotta admit, it was pretty nice though.

There should be several tracer.tgas in your objects folder (I think) that correspond to different color tracers. Have a look at those and then edit the guns you want to change the color of in the weapons editor.
Not one for historical realism in this area, I changed the ND-37 and NR-23s to fire red and green tracers respectively. Now the MiG-17s shoot christmas at me, but I wanted to be able to differentiate. I have different flak guns firing different colors as kind of an easy guide to the caliber I'm realing with. Totally not historical, but at least good for diversity.

I live in Atlanta. We have a hyperdeveloped rapid transit system that can take you into five counties with partnering service in two more. Congestion is still awful. Then again, when planners began to lay out this city in the 1870's they envisioned a maximum population of around 200,000 since we were the terminus for only 1 railroad at the time. And as time passed, they must have let the street layouts be designed by residents of the sanatorium. I don't know of another city that has this many one way streets next to each other, or this many damned Peachtree streets. Your statement, FC, is dead on the money and that's no pun intended.

Y'know, Dave, that could solve the issue, having the E-2s based at Da Nang or something like that. We never see them take off and land.
What will solve the problem is the ability to meld the NA and non-NA features more seamlessly. Carriers and carrier-based units need to be able to have tour cycles. If I'm flying with a squadron where the tour dates end before my max mission point, I should see an end to the campaign or, if the unit comes back, a large gap in time to account for the changes in deployment. It won't bother me at all if nothing changes on the map except the units deployed during the time my squadron is absent.
I was getting escort jammers (changed the A-3 Skywarrior to be able to do it) for strike missions with navalcampaign=true. My only complaint about the campaign that way is that the damn GoT is so crowded with ships.
Polishing this piece of brass is gonna have to wait until naval units can use the rebase and tour functions.

Another explanation I have often heard about why Atlantic Fleet VFs went to B/N from J was to cycle more Js into Pac Fleet for use over Viet Nam or to repalce airframes lost there. A lot of the Atlantic squadrons that got their Js in the mid 60's gave them up to Pac Fleet squadrons from 70 onward. VF-84, for example, upgraded to Js in February of 1967 and used them on deployments in 68-72, three of which took place on USS Franklin D Roosevelt. Their Js were sent to Pac Fleet units and they were "downgraded" in 74. Not that it mattered much. 2 years later, they were converting to F-14s.
