  1. Your longest lasting pilot

My only killboard pilot: Llewellyn Rhys, 56 Sqn. RFC is still my longest lived at 113 days, 36 logged flights, 19 hours (not 18 as on killboard). Killed in a collision with a friendly aircraft - as often seems to happen once past 17.5 hours. Died on 25th July 1917.
  2. Doesn't it just mean that said person is online?
  3. Hah! I'm going to call you Hamster from now on!
  4. Subscribing also changes the colour as does being in a specialist group, e.g. moderators. Your post rating will also be shown, uncoloured. I'm pink 'cos I'm a subscriber but also a Senior Member on post count.
  5. JUST CAME IN THE MAIL!

SHIFT+TAB = Previous Enemy TAB = Next Enemy CTRL+TAB = Next Friendly CTRL+SHIFT+TAB = Previous Friendly and, very useful CTRL+' = Target Attacker The square (assuming TAC set to aircraft only) representing your selected target on the TAC will turn yellow, then ' (apostrophe) = Padlock.
  6. RoF First Impressions

I've just finished reading The Soldier's War: The Great War Through Veterans' Eyes (recommended - a humbling read) and one of the things that surprised me was how often 'gaps' in the trenches are mentioned... even later in the War. So, kudos to Winder.
  7. Yep. DVIIF of Jasta 10. Taken from Zundap's screenshot. Post #35 in the screenshots thread.
  8. JUST CAME IN THE MAIL!

I've found that you need it to 'initalise' Padlock. Once you've set TAC for Aircraft only and set the range to your liking, Padlock a friendly. Thereafter you can turn TAC off and [Target Next Enemy] will still work. Before I had TIR I used Padlock all the time (allowed under DiD rules) and it's easy to get used to it so that you DON't lose control of your machine... just practice in Free Flight. On my X52 I used to use the j/s second hat switch for selecting Next/Previous Enemy and Next/Previous Friendly and the Throttle hat for TAC range and target type. I stuck the TAC toggle on one of the j/s toggle switches. Used to take me just three 'clicks' to get set for combat.
  9. Great pic too, Hasse Wind... that has to be the the most hair-raising gunner's job in the RFC.

What I want to know is whether installing a cat flap on mightysrc's PC made any difference
  11. An invention of Lanoe Hawker's, possibly with input from the ever-creative Lewis Strange, one of whose own experiences highlights UncleAl's point Wiki Link
  12. Eventually perhaps, but they sure as Hell must've put them in the Albert Hall first... otherwise how would they know?
  13. The more you guys reveal of the finer points of BHaH the more in awe I am. You must have taken CFS3 apart and gone through it with a very fine toothcomb indeed. And now you're looking at overcoming a limitation that most of us will never encounter only to futureproof your work against the advent of higher power boxes. RESPECT!
  14. Due to the nature of orthographic film, there is some debate too as to whether the fuselage was in fact purple rather than black and also what the colours of the comet actually were. Black is the general consensus for the fuselage, but it might be a good skinning project to explore the alternative von Bertrab was shot down by Mick Mannock, btw. Made a PoW, died in 1922.
  15. QED = quod erat demonstrandum, Latin, lit. which was to be demonstrated. Used these days to imply 'as is evident' or 'as may be deduced'. Pol's saying that if you set density to High there will be more machines in the air so you will meet more, not fewer. i.e. the number of contacts will increase. I imagine that the number of different skins limit is a game engine one and constrains the likelihood of a squadron flying if the number of skin slots for their aircraft is already filled, e.g. if the Alb. DIII model can have 6 different skins in the air at once then a seventh squadron flying DIIIs won't appear because there is no available skin slot. No idea how the game engine prioritises which squadrons get the skin slots though.
  16. In the same series is also this: Jasta 32 SNAP! Hasse
  17. Really? Hadn't picked up on the 'Rookie AI' bit. I've been playing full real (well, 110%, auto-mixture on) against aces and seen the effects I noted above, which, I reiterate, 'feel' realistic. The only downside I've noticed is that I sometimes get a huge explosion and no subsequent flamer... which has echoes of a discussion way back in the day before the devs did a load of work on the DMs to produce the Hardcore and Normal.
  18. That'll be because you can't resist attacking every enemy machine in the sky, Olham. You really should be flying for the British, Trenchard would be proud of you. More lone wolf missions would suit you, I think, prior to 1917.
  19. Nieuport 28

Quentin Roosevelt, of course, famously lost his life in one. SirMike probably has a point, the N28 never got its chance. Still think it's aesthetically unpleasant looking though... too long for the narrowness of the fuselage. But I like the 'quirkiness' of the gun placement - forced on it by the narrowness of the design, IIRC... and I've always liked 'quirky'.
  20. I DL'd the intermediate DM as I thought you guys deserved to have ALL your work tried out. I'm still tsting it out in QC but I have to say I take back my reservations. Really good work. My opponents don't seem to suffer undue damage until a critical point at which something significant happens, loss of part of a wing, explosion of fuel, heavy smoke etc. The visual clue that they've 'had enough' is very useful and feels realistic, even though it doesn't conform to the combat accounts I've read (although McCudden's reports quote similar damage effects from time to time). It certainly provides the 'visceral thrill' I felt was absent, i.e. I can shout "Gotcha!" with confidence (much to my wife's annoyance!). Now, I'm assuming the Intermediate DM is Herr Prop-Wasche's? So I'm seeing less FX than I would with Fortiesboy's? Anyway, I'll carry on playing for a while then I'll definitely try the Hardcore DM again but with TVs lowered in the above .XDPs. Looking forward to it. Great job guys, keep it up.
  21. Location (either Place or, e.g. n miles NE of Place); Time; Nature of Encounter (Spotted and engaged, Attacked by etc.) Altitude (Start and Finish); Type of EA; Approx. rounds expended; Nature of EA demise (flames, spun in, stalled and crashed etc.); Every pilot on your flight who was there, whether they survived to come home or not. Only ever had two claims refused in over twenty-five claims spread across five pilots. But I wonder if the game might be more 'picky' if you get past, say, 10 claims on one pilot. [EDIT] Those two that were refused were on the grounds of lack of witnesses and were claims where I probably lost my wingies before my victory. [/EDIT]
  22. You certainly get in close Olham. What's your average rounds expended per victory?
  23. Ace skins

  24. 20 hours in a BE2c!

Hear Hear! There's the evidence pointing at one of the RFC's most insidious enemies... namely, the R. A. F. and its team of non-innovative designers with their motto "If it doesn't work, build a different model with worse faults"
  25. 17, would have been 18 but for a mouse glitch
