  1. Slant6:

I'll be interested to see what you come up with for a 1948 campaign. I briefly considered doing one myself but ruled it out after some preliminary research suggested that such a scenario would not have turned out well for the Western allies. Put simply, the defense posture in Western Europe at the time was sadly lacking. Still recovering from the War, Western European countries had let their defense spending slide. Western air forces were in particularly bad shape, and the USAF itself had but a token presence in West Germany (as documented in Major Bloodnok's post above).

It was the Berlin Crisis that caused the Western Allies to sit up and begin a program to rebuild and bring their military defenses up to snuff. NATO was formed in late-1948/early-1949 and a crash rearmament program launched. The U.S. began selling and transferring large numbers of U.S. built F-80s, T-33s, and F-84s to other Western Air Forces. The initial rearmament program was designed to be completed over a five year period. By 1953 the military situation in Western Europe was far different, with Western Air Forces now equipped with large numbers of jet fighter-bombers and interceptors and a semi-integrated command infrastructure to support a coordinated defense of West Germany. Three years later the West German Air Force would take to the skies as West Germany itself began rearming to take its place in NATO.

That's why the earliest campaign in NATO Fighters 5 is 1953 -- that's about when the Western allies had finished their initial crash rearmament program.

Please don't take this post as an attempt to discourage your work on a 1948 campaign. Far from it. As I said, I am most interested to see how this turns out. If the campaign OOB starts looking a little lopsided (in favor of the Red side), you might consider building some semi-fictional events into the campaign scenario: Truman goes into full freak mode and begins a crash re-mobilization campaign to bring U.S. forces back into Europe over a 3-6 month period. Something like that.

In any case, please keep us updated on your work here.

Yes, there probably will be more additions. The A-37 at the very least, if only to remove the dependence on the A-Team model. Perhaps the AH-1s as well. I don't foresee going wild with helos, though, as the primary focus of the mod is on the various bombing campaigns against North Vietnam.

Sorry, for the tardy response. I only saw this post today for some reason.

The SF2V expansion Pack will work with the latest patch level, provided you also install the cumulative patch for the Expansion Pack:

    http://combatace.com/files/file/10466-sf2v-air-ground-war-expansion-pack-v20-sep-2014-update/

You will need SF2, SF2E, and SF2V installed in a merged install. And please pay careful attention to the installation instructions in the ReadMe -- both for the base package and the cumulative update.

I just checked the Spitfire 9c in my install. The gunsight shows up just fine. I'll double-checked the files in the released ZIP file -- nothing is missing. The cockpits for the 9c and 9e are identical -- same INI files, same LODs and graphic files.

I do not that the screenshot you have for 9e shows a gunsight that is considerably more orange than what shows up in my install. Is it possible you applied other cockpit mods to your Spitfires?

  6. Folks:

Sometime in the last year or so updated LODs for Julhelm's excellent CVN Ulyanovsk, as delivered by Fubar512, were posted. These updated LODs removed the static aircraft from the deck. I was looking for these LODs today and seem to have lost them. A search on CombatAce also turned up nothing.

Could someone either point me to the discussion thread where they were posted or re-post them here?

    Thanks,

The most likely cause of that kind of CTD is improper or incomplete installation. First, make sure that you installed the components from all four parts of the the Expansion Pack. Second, make sure that you have installed the latest cumulative update, which can be found here:

  8. Platinum Rogue:

Then unfortunately, the best I can offer is that the campaign somehow got corrupted. I have no immediate fix for this particular problem campaign.

I will be releasing an update to the Desert Storm mod in the near future, and it will have some tweaks to the campaigns, but I can't guarantee those tweaks would have prevented this situation.

  11. leodagan76:

First, there is no Mi-28 in the SF2IO mod. You're referring to the Mi-24P.

Second, SF2NA is a minimum requirement for that Mod. If you don't have it installed, then you shouldn't be using the SF2IO mod. It's that simple.

There is a fix for the sounds issue with the Mi-24P and the AH-1F. See the attached, which should be unzipped into the \Objects\Aircraft folder in your SF2IO mods directory.

Really, though, you need to get SF2NA and get it installed. If you don't, you're going to encounter plenty of other problems with the SF2IO mod, including missing aircraft, and there isn't going to be a fix for those.

  12. Canadair:

Gerwin's terrain should be used with the TARGETS.INI that the SF2NA Expansion Pack currently supplies for the terrain. It's not perfect -- it has the problems discussed in that ReadMe -- but there is no alternative TARGETS.INI at present. Perhaps one day I or someone else will rework the the TARGETS.INI to accommodate the unique coastal features of Gerwin's terrain, but that time is not yet.
