On 7/8/2022 at 12:13 PM, Erik said:Hi MK, if you view his profile on the left column his email address will be available to you as an administrator. https://combatace.com/profile/51-tk_thirdwire/ I can't guarantee it still works but it was a direct line of communication with him at one point.
Thanks I did try it but have not heard back.

My deepest apologies for missing this thread the first time posted. It was brought to my attention today by my son who is messing around with Thirdwire flight sims. The incredible thing is that based on events that just happened, this is the thing I most needed to see today more than anything you guys could ever imagine.
i am touched and humbled and though my reply is 6 years late, I truly , really, deeply...appreciate it.

Great read !

Fantastic interview!

I think you could spend a year adding all the planes in Il-2 to the campaigns. It's amazing how many there are.
Nowadays I just fly single missions though because if I fly a campaign I'm flying just one plane over and over and there are too many left unflown!
LOL , very true . I had been away or a few years from IL2 and modding in general and it's mind bogging how much stuff I have been exploring in IL2 since I got back , I installed the HSFX up to 4.11 and got my old install to work with 4.12 and last but not least installed the Solomon campaign! Wow flying corsairs in the slot is a dream come true :)
It's amazing how this game now feels brand new again .

I looked back at my old campaign mod that I had done way back for version 4.03 and installed it and it worked just fine in the 1946 4.12.1 patched version. This campaign was included in EnjoyR's patch (I believe it is the first one the list).Anyway since I am messing around with it before I finalize it I can take request to add specific aircraft to all ready existing DGEN campaigns . Just post it here.as an example this is what I have so far (some are historical, some are almost historical and some are not historical) .Added P-38J USAAF land based career to the New Guinea campaignAdded F-4U Corsair land based career to the Guadacanal campaignAdded Ki-61 Tony Career to the New Guinea campaignAdded F65F Navy Career to the MarianasAdded ki-61 Tony career to the JAAF in TarawaAdded Spitfire Vb Career to the RAF in Singapore 1942

Guys , I love the passion ! And again I am truly sorry about what occured. Regardless this forum is not going anywhere so feel free to kick back and continue to make it your own. It's not really a competition between us and anyone else. It's really about making sure we all collectively promote a great product like OFF.
At the end of the day this forum provides a service that few others do on this level , which is to preserve the work of skinners and modders . The files are here, download and enjoy them . No one else can claim that, so there will always be a place for Combat Ace regardless of any circumstance .

I want to thank Dave , my mentor in modding, together we created some of the greatest and most detailed campaign mods for SF ( at the time) and also for being a founding member of the site. Erik deserves a huge thank you , without Erik this site simply would not exist , thanks Erik for being a good friend and the man that makes everything go . Also Fates who was instrumental in making the site what it is today. And all the other mods as well as members that make this a great community .
Happy anniversary to us!

How profoundly sad.
A true modding legend.

Silent Hunter 1.5 ???
Never heard of it. I play Slient Hunter III (modded) and Silent Hunter IV (modded), but never heard of Silent Hunter 1.5.
Panama, the title of the thread is Sient Hunter 4, 1.5 is the latest official patch (adds Uboat campaign etc). Sorry about the confusion.
Here ares some screens from my latest patrol

I finally got around to playing it and it is awesome. I am using Silent Hunter (4) 1.5 patched with the Triigerr maru Overhaul 1.7 mod.
Awesome game. I'll post some pics if anyone is interested.

That is awesome!

Werner Voss signed Sanke

if you get IL2 1946 please look into EnjoyR's mega patch, that adds an incredible amount of campaigns and even other nations you can fly (complete with accurate languages in the cockpit) etc. It combines a hundred diufferent mods into one massive install that works flawlessly.
It really turns a great game into a super legendary one.

Your collection has great historical value. Amazing stuff! You must make some arrangements to preserve all those items for the future generations (but I'm sure you already have). :yes:I think a museum exhibit would be great , I am currently working on getting my sons involved because that would be a natural progression to the collection's legacy.
-
Thanks for the comments guys. On the map you will notice he has some written notes about a car crash he must have had on the way to the squadron.
I have some other stuff I will post soon inlcuding a beautiful signed Sanke of Max Immelmann.
-
I recently aquired this from the family of Frank Luke . It is his perosnal map that he used to navigate to his squadron upon landing in Europe. He has signed it twice. This map can also be seen in the book "The Stand" . It does not get rarer than this and would be the cornerstone of any museum quality collection.
Other stuff in my collection I finally got around to scannning (much more to come):
Hartmut Baldamus 18 victories killed in mid air collision with Nieuport 17.

I fly Americans but was waiting to survive a longer career, I have a 7 kill ace right now that I will post. He is the one that got the CMH award but have not wanted to use him and get him killed.

as long as i know it was vice versa. the 56. followed the circus. that's why they were considered as the anti-richthofen-squadron with captain ball as their leader. but might also had been some propaganda work from the press, with all the rewards the pilot would get who succeeds in shooting down the red baron and a flightmember with a camera who should tape the dogfight on film.Great article. Thank you so much for posting it.
His personality aside he might have been the greatest Ace ever IMHO.
OVS, I think he meant that he knew which mechanics were the best. That is what he meant by knowing the entire "outfit". I think he was giving credit to them but I could be wrong.

I would like to point out that I appreciate the passion you guys have on the Frank Luke issue. No doubt, I am not a man of a big ego and certainly accept when I am either wrong or beat at a debate.Perhaps my past perceptions of Luke are vastly off target, not having read anything solid, meaning anything dedicated to him and his life only, jaded my opinion of him. Probably NOT the best platform to stand on, but I did none-the-less.
No doubt, after reading as many posts that you all have read, I am wrong. So I'll head to the Library and pick up some of the books that have been mentioned and read them. It is sad that he only had a 2.5 week run at glory, but when you are reckless as Rickenbacker mentioned about him, that's the price you pay.
Thanks again fellas, this is more proof of to the calibur of people we have around us and in this community.
All the best,
OvS
PS... tttiger... being a moderator does not mean I can't enjoy the company of the people I so do respect and appreciate. Being wrong is part of life, and it make the conversations so much more deeper and detailed. I don't mind it, so neither should you.
Nice post, tell you what PM your address, I am sending off a present to you...enjoy the read...

MK2 or anyone else. I have a large photo and rightup about EVR and it seems to be signed. I got it at a National Guard Armory that was getting rid of things. I also got a large print of "Two Down To Glory" a painting by William S. Phillips. It depicts Reed Chambers In Spad XIII bringing down 2 Fokker D7's. Any way the EVR piece seems to be signed. My question to anyone that might know is, is this signed by the man himself or was this printed along with the rest of the piece. The inscription reads "Best Wishes to the friends og the Air Force Museum Captain Eddie Rickenbacker" any help would be appreciated. I highly value the piece regardless. The latest date in the print is 1964 so I figure the piece was printed mid to late '60's. The print being mass printed was it uniquely inscribed?Turn it around and see if you see the indentation of the pen and or ink seeping through. Hold it up in brigh lights and look for regular indentantations a pen makes on the signed side. If it is smooth and clear as glass, then it's probably a reprint.
Can the armory give you the info? Also the amount you paid might be a clue or if there are other identical ones for sale etc
