  2. Josef Raesch Jasta 43 DVII

    Raesch was assigned to Jasta 43 in June 1918 and flew the Fokker DVII in combat. On 25 July 1918, he was shot down by a Sopwith Camel flown by South African ace Ivan Hind of 40 Squadron. Raesch escaped with only minor burns when he parachuted from the flaming aircraft. He was credited with 7 victories.

    When Jasta 18 was transferred from Lomme Airfield in June 1918, Jasta 18 left their Fokker DVII's at Lomme. The ex-Jasta 18 Fokker DVII's were issued to Jasta 43.

    Blumenthal joined Jasta 53 on January 23, 1918 from Jastaschule II. Was shot down by Captain Frederick R.G. McCall of 41 Squadron on August 12, 1918. Blumenthal landed his “Nickchen IV” Fokker DVII behind enemy lines and became a POW.
