What's the spec of your machine is you don't mind me asking?
-
Hi everyone,
Did a frame rate test recently using FRAPS, found that is quite low around 24 to 25 fps when Graphics is set to High. Same for SF Project 1, WoV and WoE as well as WoI. When set to Medium, FPS stays at 60 fps even there are broken clouds and explosion effects.
What sort of frame rates you are having?
Is TW games generally CPU bounded or GPU bounded or both?
-
Does anyone hear about this game?
-
I have just finished reading Battle of Britain Wings of Victory. Too busy over the last couple of years and missed this game.
Can anyone confirm if this game can play in Commander/Strategic mode and First Person mode as well? Is it a good game at all, cause it was released in 2005 and it is 3 years old already.

I miss the good old days where we had Falcon 4, even DID EF2000 before it. It's all about avionics which make the games so popular, the community used to be big and full of people for years!
I even want to reinstall Jane's F-15 which is equally good and sophisticated. I still remember, after releasing teh GBU-15, you have to use the MFD to adjust the fins on the weapon to guide it towards the target. Is that classified I don't really know but who cares.
The other realistic avionic oriented sim is Eidos JSF, pretty good one. With today's hardware technology, you can run the game in software mode and you still get pretty good frame rates.
I just wish some publisher will pick one of those retired Jet Fighters and make it a hard core sim, F-15 is retired am I correct? A-10? What about a real hardcore MiG-31.
What about making a hardcore full bloom war simulator using existing TW games?
I was reinstalling Jane's Fleet Command on the other day. It is a marvelous game. You are in command of Air, Sea and some land vehicles. The only drawback of FC is that the graphics is pretty outdated. So I was imganing that TW games is incorporated into FC and everything changed! Eye-candy with realtime commands.

Looks like no more F-22, F-35, Su-33 dedicated hard core flight sim in development. Is this genre dying?
-
Is it a new graphics engine.
-
What's new about Flaming Cliff?

Is this device supported by the whole series of games including SFP1/WOV/WOE/WOI because i have all 4 games and intend to buy a TrackIR 4 Pro device. Any suggestions will be highly apprecited.

What sort of performance are we looking at for a Centrino Core 2 Duo ULV 1.2GHz CPU with 3GB DDRRAM and the Gmax built in GPU?
-
What is the minimum hardware requirement of a laptop computer to run this game at Medium Graphics settings?

If those two SAM radars are of the same network type (say, SA-2 or SA-3), then yes, they will interact and either of them can and will guide a SAM if the target is within the SAM's engagement envelope. This is quite evident when dealing with a terrain that has only one SAM-type, such as WoV's "VietnamSEA".
Great work, brilliant!

That, my friend, is how the game engine works!!! Which makes it super easy to transfer one set of 'traget areas' from one map to another. How the offsets work is they're x/y coordinates from a Zero point in the target area...
Let's say we have the SAM battery above. It's MAP coordinates are 220500, 404040 -- always 6 digits; these define the position from the 000000,000000 point on EVERY map, which IIRC, is the lower left corner. Distances are ALWAYS in meters.
The same is in the target area itself, in this case, it had a radius (or is it diameter?) of 3km (3000). The center of the target area would have an offset of 0.0,0.0. The bit that I always have a hard time renembering is: which minus offset is in which direction. Example:
This puts a gun at 200 meters off center for arguments sake, we'll say minus numbers are south and east of center, whereas 200,200 would put it north and west of center. So, -200,200 may put it south and west; 200,-200 would put it north/east. That would define a 'box' with the guns at the 4 corners. You would then change the heading to match various compass points to have them face outwards. Figure they're at 90 degs off the center; so the 90 we have would be wrong; for the s/e gun shown, it should be 140, the s/w would be 240, n/w 320, the n/e 60.
So, looking at our SAM site, you can see the 2 radars are NOT quite centered in the ring of death...a normal Guidline site would have the FanSong directly in the center at 0.0,0.0. Since this is a GENERIC battery; with no particular SAM named, the game engine will fill in the spots with approiate units, based on their service years.
There's a nice tutorial on this subject in my "Shipwreck" object, that available in the Non-Aircraft Object Mods downloads section here. Have a look at it, it's worth the read.

Fantastic Wrench! I understand completely now, thanks for your thorough yet concise explaination.
While reading your reply I think about the GCI network. So let's say 2 SAM Radar are within each others' detection range say 90nm, the total effective range will be 180nm? Is this feature implemented at code level of the game? If yes, it would be really great.

What are these offsets? It's amazing that I just cut and paste a block of data containing these offsets from one target area to another and they are picked up just like that! Clever!
How this offset works?
-
Works perfectly! 3 SA-2 fired upon me. I don' see other SAM just SA-2 I presume that is the only Soviet SAM system comes with the stock version of SF am I correct? Anyway...thanks! It helps alot!

Thanks Fubar, I do recall I saw SAMLauncher entries in terrain_target.ini when I was working on it yesterday. Let me do it your way to see if it does any better.
CIACHO, I like your signature. Which model is it eactly? Looks like the Chinese J-11.

I have read some topics dated back to 2005 which describes how to make the Hawke battery work. So I took P3 Airfield for a try. The SA-2 appeared as I cycled through ground objects using F7 but no matter how close I flew towards the SAM, it never fired. I guess I have missed something which I am not aware of.
What triggers a missile launch?
-
Yes, should add some immersion to the game. Great stuffs!
-
Sorry Basher11,
You will have to issue a "Break" command first otherwise your wingman will just stay in formation. "Squared " isn't he?
-
Hi Basher, your Alert5 Intercept mission is very difficult to accomplish. It is almost impossible to get the Sparrow fire at max range upon the big bad guy. Would you also modify to change the SA-2 SAM sites. Everytime I get above 3,000ft I got a SAM launch against and it is deadly.
Back to your question, I have some information for you see if they will be useful to you then:
COMMDATA.INI
[Menu002] Name=WingmanSubmenu Text=COMM_TXT_TO_WINGMAN Item[001].Text=COMM_TXT_ENGAGE_AIR <------------------------------changed Item[002].Text=COMM_TXT_COVER_ME Item[003].Text=COMM_TXT_BREAK Item[004].Text=COMM_TXT_REJOIN Item[005].Text=COMM_TXT_RADAR_TOGGLE Item[006].Text=COMM_TXT_DROP_TANKS Item[007].Text=COMM_TXT_STATUS_CHECK Item[008].Text=COMM_TXT_RETURN_TO_BASE Item[009].Text=COMM_TEXT_BACK Item[009].Menu=TopMenu Item[009].CommandNum=10 Item[009].ExtraSpace=TRUE
In SPEECHSYSTEM.INI, use the find in notepad to locate "Concept075", replace the whole section by cut and paste the following code:
//[Concept075] //MSN_SPC_WING_REPLY_ATTACK_MY_TARGET_NO, //CallerFragmentID=SPC_WING_NUMBER //BodyFragment001=SPC_WING_REPLY_NO //BodyFragment002=SPC_WING_REPLY_TARGET_NO [Concept075] //MSN_SPC_WING_REPLY_POSITIVE, CallerFragmentID=SPC_WING_NUMBER BodyFragment001=SPC_WING_REPLY_YES
I did several tests on the COMMDATA.INI file, I squeezed out the "Engage Air" command and thought it would work. No luck. Then I though maybe the Wingman should say yes to acknowledge, so I went into the speech system and upon trial and error, I managed to arrived at the concluding result as shown above.
Hope this helps.
P.S. Your mission is quite good. I am trying to use F-14 because it has the AIM-54C long range AAM.
-
Basher11,
The Russian AA-10 missile seems to be a bit weak against chaff. I can easily evade without even beaming my aircraft. But the SA-2 is bloody deadly. Are they stock missiles or you have tweaked them for deadly performance?

Please refer to this link for the mission file -> hereHello Basher,
Your link doesn't work. This is what I've got:

Thanks for the information. Looks to me that the game is GPU demanding.
