  1. FIFA World Cup

Does anyone know, if the "Milky Way" still exists in Amsterdam?
  2. OT Your daily History Lesson

Yes, times were really hard those days...
  3. FIFA World Cup

    Aaaahhhh - now I understand!

No, of course not - they have nice "Cafés", as we call it here. And here in Berlin we have many of them, too. Some of them bake good cakes and fine tartes, and you get various sorts of coffees. The most famous Café here is an old place in the style of Vienna Cafés, the "Café Einstein". A wonderful place with a lot of space, and a beautiful garden to sit outdoors.
  5. OMG - Masochistic Furniture Yoga - I had never seen that here in Europe before! But seriously now: your OFF Cockpit surely is one of the nicest I have seen so far! The blend of antique furniture with the modern gear, which can be locked away - very good, Dej! The pic on top, and the one-eye glass make me combine: artillery observer?
  6. About time to show these again; for all our newbies, and those who want to see it again. Although the fighters move too fast in the computer simulations, it is thrilling to see the documentary about these famous dogfights; like Udet vs Guynemer; or Voss' last stand against McCudden, Rhys Davis and more S.E.5a pilots. Enjoy! PART ONE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeOJDvydY8M&feature=related PART TWO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJxI5PyD6yI&feature=related

  9. Dej: I'll lose it while the missus restores it... yes, she can do furniture restoration too :sigh: Okay, OKAY - now I want to see a picture of the missus! A woman who can restore furniture! That should mean, she can also do other things, most other women cannot? Impressive!

Nordo, you can change from wingman to flight leader in Workshop by clicking "always lead". It does work for the German Jastas - with the British, I still found myself behind others; not sure if I was the leader, but it didn't look like it. A warping tip from Hasse Wind: open the inflight map, then press the warp command, but put your fingers over the "stop warp" key(s). You will now see your yellow aircraft run along the line in the map. If you now only warp a bit, and then break off again, you may not run into enemies so easily. And when the enemy labels are still white, you may stillhave the chance to climb away from them, without them noticing you.
  11. OT, Daft UK Laws

WM: 2. It is an act of treason to place a postage stamp bearing the British king or queen’s image upside-down Poor Australians and Kiwis - they must have found it hard to get it right! WM: 3. It is illegal for a woman to be topless in Liverpool except as a clerk in a tropical fish store. Are there many "tropical fish stores" in Liverpool?

itifonhom: But maybe they´re a bit jealous of the Dutch, so small and yet a world power then, a queen and coffee shops all over!! What do you mean Olham?? Yes, maybe, iti - the Dutch seem to know how to live relaxed, and maybe we envy them for their queen, just like the British. We only have Angela Merkel; and she often behaves as if she was the queen of Germany. And the coffee shops - we are developing; we seem to get more and more of them. It wasn't arrogance so much, rather a kind of ignorance - I don't usually watch football and I'm far from being even only a little bit of an expert. And so I simply didn't know, how good the Spanish team was/is, until I saw them play Germany. When I saw both teams enter the stadion, and after only some minutes, I could see and feel, who was the dominator down there. The German boys moved in a way of deep respect for their opponents, and I thought after some minutes only: this time we won't make it.
  13. Okay, I just checked the time between claims and confirms in my system. I usually get the confirmations 4 days later, even when I only flew one sortie per day. Now it may well be, that it feels very long for you, when you fly all possible sorties of each day, cause you may fly 4 sorties per day, which would make 16 sorties in 4 days, before you'd get any confirmations. So, if you want to see some confirms, just make one sortie per day; then advance time to the date of next day, for your next flight. Or have patience - and survive!
  14. Predictable Patrols

No, I'm not seeing the same thing happening again. But in our "Krauts vs Crumpets" Full DiD Campaign we don't warp, nor use TAC, so I may miss many enemy flights. When you warp, you will be pulled out of warp, when enemies are near. But did you try another squadron and region? Only yesterday I had an airfield defense patrol. We (5 Albatros D.V) spotted 4 Sopwith Pup high. I saw nothing else. They came down on us, and we fought and shreddered them. I was just about to collect my men, who came towards me from all directions, when I noticed, I counted 5 altogether - but there should be only four! The guy behind me, who I had thought was my wingman, turned out to be a SPAD! In the very last second, I could pull my craft round, tracers whizzing past my starboard side! Now, that's what I call a surprise - and not at all a common situation. In addition to the surprise, these craft (there were also Nieuports then) were French. And all the time since we had transferred to Bisseghem field, we had only encountered British fighters. So, I can't say that there ares always the same things happenening.

Hey, Flyby - you faked my quote!!! (Was there a Scottish team at all, by the way?) Yes, Davy, Paul the Octopus is cute! They put two clear plexiglass boxes into his Aquarium, one with a Spanish flag and one with the German flag on cardboard. Both contain a scallop. As soon as they sink the containers in, Paul already comes to play his game. He holds the container with some arms, and the lid with the others, and pulls it open. He had so far always opened the box of the later winner.
  16. nbryant: Still, despite the lack of recognition I am compelled to fly over and over as OFF keeps calling me back. One day I shall learn to survive and look forward to taking down those funky Alb's of Olham's...... ;) Bordeauxred Baron: Funkee Albs? Vott's zatt? Perhapps hee means "bunter Albtraum?" (colourful nightmare) nbryant and vonOben, after recent observations, I recommend to fill in each aircraft downed into a seperate line. That's because I saw in my files, that one day I got one Pup confirmed, and another denied - in the same claim. Had they been all in one line, they might have all got rejected together. This is one of my claims, as the sim stored it into the claim files. Sometimes I write them more wordy, sometimes not. But this claim got confirmed. The semicolons are written by the program of course - you should NEVER use semicolons. I marked the parts, which the program wrote, in purple; the bits I had clicked or written are black: 20/;6/;1917 ;12h;0 ;Flanders ;Bisseghem ;Airfield Defense ; Flying: Albatros DIII. On this day claims: ;1 ;Single Seater Type. ; Patrolling to defend Iseghem airfield, my 6 Albatros got under attack from 3 fighters of the new type with the inline engine. While we turned with them, Albatros D.V from Jasta 10 joined in to help. I hit one craft with three bursts. It caught fire and crashed at 11:50 h at Rumbeke airfield.. Witnessed by: Arnold Jordan, Kurt Bertram, Manfred Waechter, Ernst Matthes, Gunther Gros Status : Confirmed ; Write the names of your wingmen first name, family name, comma, space - that should work for everyone.

Not sure what finals YOU were watching, Widowmaker, but there was only 1 Final with Brasil vs Germany. Well, I didn't know all this - I had to google it, but you see, that we only played Brasil once in a Cup Final. And the Italians won one more than us; the Brasilians even two. 1954: Germany - Hungary 1966: England - Germany 1974: Germany - Netherlands 1982: Italy - Germany 1986: Argentinia - Germany 1990: Germany - Argentinia 2002: Brasil - Germany WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS 2006 Italy 2002 Brasil 1998 France 1994 Brasil 1990 Germany 1986 Argentinia 1982 Italy 1978 Argentinia 1974 Germany (BRD) 1970 Brasil 1966 England 1962 Brasil 1958 Brasil 1954 Germany (BRD) 1950 Uruguay 1938 Italy 1934 Italy 1930 Uruguay That makes 5 for Brasil, 4 for Italy, 3 for Germany, 2 for Argentinia and Uruguay, 1 for England and France The benefits of Internet...

WM: Thats kinda taken the wind out of Olham's Sails I bet. Did I appear like a ship under full sails, Widow? Only because I repeatedly said, that the German team played a very good football? Well, I still think they do. But we saw today, that the Spanish team played even better - they played it with a routine, that our young team is yet missing. And I saw, that our team had a deep (perhaps too deep) respect from the Spanish. Not without good reason - these Spaniards are actually the best football team in this World Cup. I do not see much of a chance for the Dutch team. Spain will be World Champion - and truly deserved!
  20. Life span of a Pilot ?

themightysrc: I'm dying to meet you in MP, Olham! Well, I have tried MPs, but those were WW2 sims. I find it wrong to fly MP with Teamspeak and maybe even Labels on - it is not, like it really was. Of course - without Teamspeak: impossible to do; so you can't simulate a PM like the real air combat was; IMHO. I still owe RedDog a PM (is RedDog still around? never seen him since a long time?), and his team used to fly against AI, were I might be of some assistence. But against a human flyer in a Tripe, I shouldn't get very far, if he knows what he must do. In a fight of a Triplane and an Albatros - both manned with real players - the Albatros should be in trouble and not be able to outturn the Tripe. The best chance of an Albatros against a normal (non-twin gun) Tripe would be it's devastating weapon power. All the "Sopwith products" break quickly in the fire of twin MGs. But even MvR ran, when I was on patrol with him in OFF, and we spotted Triplanes much higher.
  21. Life span of a Pilot ?

Bruce, you could use a key for switching Labels on and off (mine is "Q"), and check for the type of aircraft you encounter. Later, you will know anyway. Also, there must be aircraft pictures with subtitles somewhere - I think in the briefing; click on "aircraft". Barkhorn, don't underestimate the German fighters! The Dr.1 outturns everything. And in the Albatros, I can still outturn a Pup, a Nieuport, a Triplane or a Camel in a left turn - with a bit of skill, maybe.
  22. You may have wondered sometimes, if an ancestor of your family - father's or mother's line - could have been a pilot in a German Jasta or Marine Feldjasta. Ras came up with that question, and I will search through the two lists in the book "The Jasta Pilots" by Norman Franks, Frank Bailey and Rick Duiven. This is mainly interesting for Americans, who have European ancestors. But even some English or French names may have German roots - in my Jasta, my second wingman's name is "Winslowe" - a name that also appears in Great Britain. Some names have a meaning, which can be translated. "Cook" would be "Koch" for example, and there are 8 "Koch" listed. I don't mean, that he really had to be a Jasta pilot - only, if the name appeared somewhere, so it might be more imaginable for you, that it could have been so, and make you start a German campaign in that Jasta, where the name appeared. (Many will of course be disappointed, if their names are not listed). If you are interested, send me 4 - 5 names; I'll check it for you then.
  23. Yes, Blume survived the war. He became an engineer for Albatros and Arado aviation companies. He died in May 1964, aged 68. (When I think about the music I heard in 1964, how I dressed and wore my long hair - I wonder if would have understood). Blume was a recipient of the Knights Cross of the Hohenzollern House, and the Pour le Merite.
  24. Life span of a Pilot ?

Not sure, but it might be, that the TAC does NOT show aircraft, which are really invisible for the player - like when they come out of the sun. Could be so. Another question is: how low did you fly eventually? Cause the ground gunners are many, and they all fire at your crates. Even von Richthofen was most certainly killed by a machine gunner, when he was flying low behind the lines.
  25. No, vonOben - that is not the normal way. They either get confirmed or rejected after a couple of days - not after months. There must be something wrong your end; most likely in the way you wrote the claim. I had similar problems a long time ago, until I found out, that the semicolon is used as a stop-sign in the program of OFF. So, if you write a claim with a semicolon in it, the program will not handle anything after that sign. Which means, your witnesses for example would not get listed. Also make sure to fill the names of your wingmen in at the top of the claim form, and get the names written right, with first name and family name, no ranks. If you want me to check your claim, go here: (your sim folder) > campaigns > CampaignData > pilots from there, please copy that claim. If your pilot is No. 2 in the sim's log, he has one higher number in the folders, so he would be "Pilot3". So copy "pilot3 claims", or just that one claim line out of there, and send me a PM with it, if you want; I'll check it then.
