  1. ...never knew that the scenerie is that beautiful. now it really looks like google earth. WOW. What, only like "google earth"? Mine is looking far better even on setting "3" !
  2. Welcome back Olham

Yes, indeed - thank you, Duce!
  3. The Red Baron

To prevent you from getting disappointed: the movie is not at all about the real MvR and his deeds. Best is to watch it thinking, it was about some other Jasta. The aircraft scenes are mostly better than in "Flyboys" and they alone are worth watching it. Only exceptions: the fast and steep dives of these planes in some scenes.
  4. Well, here is a Sopwith Snipe for you, Widow - and also, what I'll do with it when you have it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxvJXMotRLY&feature=related
  5. Rekindled

Welcome back, CaptSopwith, and congratulations for your examn! It's funny you ask if we remember you - you were and are one of the forum core members to me, and I think for many others too. The only irritation was, that it is already another year gone by. As a final note, I'm working to become a professional historian. I want to teach at the university level and I specialize in World War I and, believe it or not, Germany. Wow, that will be a great job - earning an income with what you like to do anyway!
  6. So the lord had mercy on you.
  7. Welcome back Olham

It was actually too much of a difference - my Full DiD "Krauts vs Crumpets" pilot fell today. My mind may still work as slow as it usually does in Ostfriesland - it's so peaceful and quiet and slow there...
  8. This was all looking very good - but relax, Winder and Pol, and read the end title. The end was the very best. My congrats to you, Widowmaker - now I know why you wanted a Snipe: it's so cute!
  9. No need to set it on high, Duce - in 1918 the Huns got flooded by the Entente aircraft. I would rather say, outnumbered by 3:1; so I wish you good luck, Hellshade - great piloting and fighting skills alone will still not be enough... Jasta 7 is a good choice.
  10. Breathing in the North Sea air with it's salt and iodine cleared and cleaned my lungs well; long walks and bicycle trips through the juicy green marshlands and woods brought peace to my eyes and mind; and the freshly caught fish in many variations, cooked and fried by my old mom gave me new energy - but boy! did I long for getting back into my Albatros!!! It's so good to see you all again!
  11. No joke - for the Ostfriesen it is the magic potion, and no one could imagine being without tea one day. If you can't find a supply, I could send you some packages - perhaps in exchange for an Osprey book about the Albatros aces?
  12. New Book On The USAC

Pips: He makes the telling point that, of the 298 N.28's operated by the USAC, there are only four (4) recorded instances where fabric stripped from their wings in a dive. And none of those occurrances caused a fatility. That's what I always thought and guessed. The French where just not interested in the craft anymore, when the much stronger SPAD XIII came, and so they offered it to the Americans. Thanks for the news, Pips!
  13. Welcome back Olham

Thanks all! Duce: You two should start a TV show: "Get OFF of my Cloud" Hihi! We could, but I'm afraid, in humour the British definitely beat us Germans. A great song, by the way - in pop music they are also top ranking. Good to see you, Bullethead. I don't dare to ask how you feel along the Gulf of Mexico, but I wish you all the power you need, should you be involved in the clearing of the oil.
  14. OFF Forum Pilots Maps

Update 06/01/10 23:22 h Berlin summertime (= GMT + 2) VonOben, Sweden, added. All the maps are in post 1 of this thread
  15. Welcome back Olham

  16. Let's just say, P4 will be released some day... - and that Pol is a teaser! (But we forgive him, when he builds us a Morane Parasol!)
  17. Welcome back Olham

Well, I did certainly miss your banter, old boy! But I must be slippin' - I cannot remember a single occasion, when you got even only close enough to get behind my bird for an attempt to do so. And even if you had - you still would have to be able to hit me...
  18. H W: For P4, I hope we'll see some real ground attack squadrons - a German Schlachtflieger career would be something special. Agreed! And SchuSta - Schutzstaffeln - to escort and protect recon craft; maybe also in two-seaters like the Roland "Walfisch" !
  19. Tactics

The Entente sent out more and more planes, Carrick, but it shouldn't get too crowded before 1918. If you attack enemy planes, check environment very careful first. With a D.II, you can dive away from an attack with good speed, but with a D.III you need to be more careful, cause the lower wings break easily. I just read the book by Julius Buckler, "Malaula! The battle cry of Jasta 17", and he never seemed to get into such trouble. I think, in OFF the Entente is sometimes a bit too present early on.
  20. Welcome back Olham

Thank you guys! Not pink this time, but wrapped in toilet paper (not used though). Great idea - pudding is cancelled for three days, after Hptm. von Mahlo saw our "waste of valuable military resources".
  21. Thank you all for the warm welcome back, guys! Now I know, why I couldn't find my mechanics - they were tied together in a barrack, cause they tried their best to avoid, that I found my bird wrapped in toilet paper. Everybody was laughing loud, when I came to the field. A shame, that Hauptmann von Mahlo saw it, and that he punished us all for wasting "valuable military resources", by cancelling our pudding for three days. Lou: SWEET! The pic of Gretje Bothe looks like my old Grandma Gunhild. We're all not very different, are we? Pioneers, who settled in the America, even came from Ostfriesland. See here: http://www.nibis.de/~kgsgfehn/ostfriesen/ostfr10/ostfr10.htm
  22. VonOben, check your "workshop" settings. Set ground fire to "Easy ground gunnery". That should help. Flak wasn't too deadly earlier in the war. But if you dive onto a railyard with lots of machine gun positions, it becomes more likely that you will collect hits.
  23. Hey, Lou! You want Postcards? Okay, here is a link to a site with wonderfull pics from the 50s and 60s and even earlier. They show my town Norden, and also a lot of the whole region Ostfriesland. Enjoy! http://www.helga-christians.com/eala_frya_fresena.htm
  24. Hey, do you guys ALWAYS have to pretend you don't really care about anything like death? Tranquillo mistakes the name "Scout Experimental" and develops an early helicopter from it; and Widowmaker barbeques sausages in his buning fighter - tch! Death, where is thy sting?!
  25. Welcome to OFF, Dan! All you have to change is the third line in your pilot's dossier. If your pilot is Pilot No. 1, his dossier will be that for pilot no. 2 (always one higher). You find the dossier here: (your game folder) > campaigns > CampaignData > Pilots Change the third line from the old to the new squadron. That's all. You'll keep all hours, medals etc. But make sure to get it right - have a look, how the new squad has to be written. If you write it wrong, it won't work. But like in Lotto - no guaranties! (Best is to back up the pilots files first by copying them into another location). Oh, and please send me a PM with your town and country/state - I'll add you to our OFF Forum Pilots Maps.
