  1. WM: The Germans? Yes, in WW 1 they have bombarded Paris, it seems. In WW2 any German bombardement of Paris was forbidden, as far as I know, cause Hitler regarded Paris as a metropolis of great culture and history. Why he didn't think the same about London, I don't know.

Ah, good to know you can see them, as I write them - thanks, Duce. Ä is spoken like your "a" in "man" ß is a double "s" The last letter is a French one we don't use - it's in "Citroën", for example. It is spelled similar to our "Ä".
  3. Yes, BirdDog, it fits to moments of deep mourning and maybe even desperate faintness. Matt, I know how isolated one can be about a creation and the response to it. So here is a compliment, and it comes from the heart; I really mean it: if Peter Jackson should ever make a movie about WW1 in the air, he would be definitely the right man to do the job. And your music would be the perfect choice to be the soundtrack score.
  4. Thanks, UncleAl, for being so dogged in your PM about "Release Movie No. 11" and Matt's music. I had indeed only started the movie and heard "Adagio for Strings". What I missed was, that it only runs a few seconds, and then again at the end. But all the other music during the movie is the OFF Soundtrack by Matt Milne. I wanted to put that right, Jenato, cause I had done "our" Matt Milne wrong here.
  5. Destroying aces

Hellshade, MvR made an emergency landing in an Albatros, which had a fuel leakage after being hit in combat. He put it down next to a road, unharmed. Then he was hit by a single bullet at the rear of his head, which almost cost his live, cause he unconscious for a while, and couldn't move his arms or legs. Had he been an Entente pilot, he would probably never have got so high kill numbers; he could have become a POW on one of these occasions. That explains very well, why it is easier to pile big kill numbers on the German side.

Good news, Ras! Time will vanish like like a sports car, until you are back in the skies with us!
  7. Archibald, certainly not!

Hey, that's a funny find, Duce, and a lot of info on that site. Thanks for sharing!

Rabu, it would have to be "Unbestätigte Abschüsse verboten!" unconfirmed = unbestätigt kill = Tötung, töten, but also: Abschuss Not sure if you will see the right letters - if you don't have the Umlaut letters, you can also write: "Unbestaetigte Abschuesse verboten!"
  9. Just found these parts of the documentary "WW1 in colour - Blood in the Air" Through the coloured film, it got closer to me in time somehow. There are other parts about the war on the ground and at sea; search YouTube for them. This may have been posted before, but then I missed it. Enjoy watching it, living in peace. 10. Since we have the first Forum Pilot from New Zealand here with us now, I had to do a new map. Australia and New Zealand are now on one map. I had to change it, cause the former "Terrain maps" don't exist at Google Maps any more. The new one looks far better, I think, and I hope you say the same. If you like it, I will also do new maps for the other parts of our world too, when I return from my trip home to Ostfriesland, end of May.
  11. OFF Forum Pilots Maps

Update 05/13/10 16:03 Berlin summertime (= GMT + 2) phantom67, New Zealand, added. Welcome our first Kiwi" - from the land of Wanaka, Wingnut Wings and the "Vintage Aviator" All the maps are in post 1 of this thread
  12. Von Paulus: By the way, Olham, it was only composed late in the thirties, so it wasn't played in the MvR's funeral. Damn, that's what happens when you accept something you read in a forum, blindly. I read it somewhere here, some time ago. About Matt Milne's OFF Main Title: I don't get tired of listening to it. It fits the athmosphere so well!
  13. Destroying aces

Welcome back, Ryan! Well, you won't expect to be able to change history, eyh? Imagine, the Germans would try to win that war again! Better not.... Don't expect a constructive answer on this from the devs.
  14. I wish I could - I have to travel through the whole of Berlin, to plott some sign writing for a van, then attach it to the van elsewhere, and after that I am invited to a birthday. No flying for me today, I'm afraid. Wish you all the best for your sorties!

How do you enter extra information such as location and altitude? As long as you avoid semicolons, you can write it any way. You could mention the nearest airfield or town, and your direction to it; also the time. I write it like in the briefing: 13:11 h I never metion the altitude more precise than just high or low.

I think, Bullethead will be in action with that oil spillage in the gulf of Louisiana - he is - among many other things - a fireworker, and does such actions. I wish him and all along the coast there - man and animal - all the best luck!
  17. Yeah, I love you too! Hihi! Good morning, olde chap - how's the weather in Newcastle?

Carrick, can you still edit your post? A space before the http would make it a link to click on.
  19. ...never before seen the early RNAS planes taking off from battleships with a tiny runway supported by the big guns!!! That's just incredible. Only possible with a Sopwith. My good old sturdy Albatros would ditch in like a stone. The only German craft that could - perhaps - do that, would be the Fokker Dr.1 and E.V, I suppose.
  20. OFF Newbie here

Welcome to OFF, phantom67 The radar can be switched on or off with Shift + T - it can also be drawn into the lower left corner by clicking and holding it with your mouse. The hat view can be in two modes; I call them "fixed angles view" and "pan view" - you can select them in "Controls" (press "escape" in game; click "controls"). If you put both commands on a joystick key, you can use "pan view" for patrolling, and "fixed angles view" for fighting. But if you are into the whole great experience, there is no way around TrackIR. That device is just phantastic to use! All graphics on 4 is not the solution; try aircraft on 5, and set "scenery detail" on 3 or even 2 to gain performance. It will still look great. Also you may move "terrain detail" to 3. Your CPU seems to be your weak spot, it could be faster. However old the engine of CFS3 may be, the sim as it is now is quite demanding, and offers you great graphics and action. Never heard of such strange graphic glitches as you have. If you think, watching your plane crash would make the immersion for you - well, you haven't flown the campaigns yet; they are as immersive as can be. Immersion really is the most used word here on the forum. Please send me a PM with your hometown and country/state - I'd like to add you to our OFF Forum Pilots Maps.
  21. nbryant, that is a very good start into skinning! I don't think, anything is missing - it may rather be one colour too many; the dark blue fuselage band doesn't seem to add well to the green - perhaps if you just made it black or deep brown, keeping the white outline?
  22. OFF Pilot Stary wrote a message to me; his name was missing on the Europe map. Hotness was another simmer, who was missing at some point. I don't know, what mistake I have made, but there may be more missing names. Please check, everyone, if you are still on it. Please don't write positive answers, or I'll be flooded. Only if you are missing, send me a PM with name and hometown and country/state. Thanks! For all, who don't know the maps yet: they are in the "sticky threads" above; the thread is called OFF Forum Pilots Maps.
  23. OBD have really done a great job with the "fine tuning" of the landscape and camouflage colours. Here you see my escort flight of today's mission. Q: How many D.F.W. C.V bombers do you see? (They are all fully in the picture).
  24. Jenato, that piece is the "Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber. What UncleAl means is the title music of OFF, which is indeed by the composer Matt Milne.
  25. Thought that was normal on your blenders? Did you push her back home, and they let you through, cause no one wanted the pile of rubbish? Any time, Widow - it's so very entertaining to read and see, how you got your a*s kicked! Mmuahahahahahahaaaaa!!!!!
