  1. Just also found the Patch 1.26, and 1.26 Hotfix. But 1.26 is also 45 MB - that is impossible to send per E-mail, or not? If you have patience, you could send me your post address. I would send you a stick with the data, if there is no other way.
  2. Trek, I can offer to send you Patch 1.25 from March. After that, I have only 1.28a, but that would be far to big to send even compressed and per E-mail. Please send me your E-mail address via PM, and I'll send you the first.
  3. Seems, the Tripe was too expensive or too difficult/time consuming to build - otherwise they would have had many more of this wonderful craft, I'd think. And only then they could have sold any to France. But with these designs, you can be glad if your squadron commander lets you get away with it! :acute:
  4. Rabu: When I shoot some one down in OFF, I never relate to a person being in the plane, a person with a life and story. I guess because it is first of all, only a "game" and also because it is so removed from the actual person in the plane, and even more so because I know it isn't real. As the games get more and more real looking it gets harder for me to accept that it is acceptable, but again, maybe I'm just out of touch. But shooting a plane down is easier then stabbing some one or shooting them at close range, even if they are pixels on a screen. That's different for me, Rabu. I do really think of the other fellow(s) in his/their plane. It is a fight for death or life, so I fight it in the very moment, as if it was a sport. I push away all feeling of pity. It's him or me; and I want it to be him. But when I hear his scream, flying over his dying crate; when I see them burn, or when they jump to death, to avoid burning to death, then the feeling is back. Then I wished, it could just be a sport. The referee would whistle, and declare me the winner. The other bloke could go home - beaten, but alive. I do deeply believe, that the most aces of WW1 air combat felt similar about it. Udet showed cards of Rickenbaker, Fonck and Bishop in his book, personally signed by the aces for him. They all fought with great sportsmanship, if one can use the term here - and I am absolutely sure: as long as they were human beings, they were ridden by nightmares about some of their victims for the rest of their life. For those men, war wasn't something, were you could say: No, I won't do that, I won't go. They did it as best as they could. And they had to live with it for the rest of their days. Flying this sim, I feel and think about all this. Those are very conflicting feelings. I am always finding out new every sortie: would I be worth my comrades respect and help? Would courage or fear have the upper hand? How long would I survive this? So I can say: this sim, as it is made, taught me a deep respect for those men - with all the conflicting thoughts within. It does certainly not glorify war, nor does it allow you to win the war single handedly (although I still keep trying - grin!).

Yeah, pilots always had to have hawkeyes - and balls of steel!
  6. Enjoy these incredible BBC camera views from the back of a Peregrine Falcon. When it's chasing through a forrest, you want to cover your eyes with your hand!
  7. Thank you all! I like the Tripe a lot and will fly it more often now that I got hooked. An aircraft easy to fly, very agile AND fast - what more would you want on the British side? (Well, two guns would be nice... But you can't have it all).
  8. tdacon, welcome here in the OFF World! Although I don't know what goes wrong your end, I recommend to use the "Quick Combat" for training. First you create a training pilot, then you go to the "Quick Combat" menue. There you can select your aircraft, your number of wingmen, your start position (field, 5.000 feet, 10.000 feet etc.); and the same for your opponent. You can also choose, whether you are in advantage, equal, or disadvantage to your enemy. You can choose the season, and the time of day. So you can build everything there, that you may find in "Turkey Shoot", and much more. AND: you will have a little more time, before you meet your opponents. If it's true, that you fly OFF with keyboard and mouse, I can only say: forget about that. Even in less realistic settings, this is still a flight sim. A joystick is the first thing to have - an absolute must. If it is a twist stick, you don't need rudder pedals. But rudder is essential here, so get a good twist stick, like my Thrustmaster T.Flight Stick X (26,39 Euro at AMAZON). TrackIR is some big thing to have - when you get addicted to flying flight sims, you should get one sooner or later; you will feel like in the cockpit; you just look around without keys or hat switch. If you have questions, please ask. And please give me a PM with your home town and country - I want to add you to our OFF Forum Pilots maps. Thanks!

Here is one that I found most beautiful, cause it looks like a copied bird: the Reichelt Eindecker from 1913. Found these pics at Rosebud's great picture site: http://www.earlyaeroplanes.com/archive1.htm And this is the Grade Monoplane from 1910 - what a time it must have been. The air was yet a space for pioneers.
  10. Thanks for the good tips, Catch, and for making me appetite to record a bit again.

Winder, I can offer you my last Full DiD pilot from my old rig. He had 61 sorties. The claims are all written with some detail. If you're interested, just send me the mail-address, okay?

Maybe I have too much phantasy - or his writing is just so, that you can imagine the scenes very well: I was right there with him. And it gave me an uncomfy feeling in the stomach, cause I know pretty much about what he couldn't know then: what may be waiting for him at the front. I can only bear to read on, when I know this one answer: did he survive the war?
  17. I didn't know what to click really, Rabu, sorry - I rather try to put it into words. Many war and combat games seem to be like ego shooters to me. What I think makes a combat/war sim interesting and gives it a value, is when you can't easily win it by marching through like a super-heroe. When you have to learn to survive and how to use your weapons. When you have to learn, that you can never win it alone. When you have to experience, that you can't always win; that others may be as good at it as you are. Like in sports - you have competition, you try and give your best, but you must accept that there may be others, who are better. About historical sims like OFF or RoFl (sorry, couldn't resist!) I like it, when you get a feeling for the whole context. When you learn to know the many details of such a conflict. And when you learn to know and sometimes even admire your opponent for his courage, his deeds, his way to fight. OFF gave me a deeper insight into WW1 air combat, and taught me a deep respect for the men even from the other side, who were fighting under the same, and sometimes maybe far worse conditions than "my German pilots".
  18. Yeah, I've seen these video takes in short versions, when I searched YouTube. Yesterday, I watched the third "Jurassic Park" movie, were Sam Neill comes to the conclusion, that the raptors did communicate, and were hunting in teams with strategies. He assumed, that they might have been more intelligent than even primates. And the birds are the decendants of the raptors. I think, we roughly underestimate the intelligence of animals in general. Many animals are really into learning something. And when you teach them, like we teach our children, they will really learn and develop.

Can you imagine, that still today over 30 tons of unexploded ammo is gathered every year from Flanders' fields; 92 years after the end of the war? The farmers deposit shells and granades they find at the nearest country road, where the army specialists collect them.
  20. EEK..Toe-curlingly baaaad

Yes, I do, but couldn't find it anymore here. Think it had a black spider, a "Schwarze Witwe" (Black Widow) on it as an emblem?

Was a very relaxed time, and they made a wonderfully funny movie. Here is some of it. The second in memory of the great actor Gert Fröbe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4fVp-hEPOk

We all started much smaller, but then we grew. Looking at our first projects would surely feel all of us like you now, Widowmaker. Which is the proof for ourselves, that we have made progress!
  23. Here is my latest skinning attempt - a Triplane painted with silver bronze called "Silver Bird". I will make it available soon. Had a go with some Jasta 6 boys - it was hard firing at "my" Staffel; but I brought down two. The Triplane can just outrun and outturn them with no effort. A hell of a plane. I find it tempting to go VERY close, cause you can pull away with a quick reaction of the Tripe. But then I hit one Albatros in a steep vertical climb, when the response was rather low.
  24. Wonderfully made video, Catch ! I have yet to try the Ford Model T - that intro with the train and car arrival was a very nice idea, and the choice of music makes it a joy to watch. If only we had those Gothas in there already - would make me fly Entete side much more!
  25. Strutter

Great demo! I got the impression, that a rear gunner could hardly hit an agile fighter in a real attack - all that jerking and commotion. Even in such a short scene, a Fokker Triplane gave me nasty feeling, if I was the observer.
