  1. A Claim made by Udet

Yeah, okay, Hasse Wind. If you know an easy way to make typo text look like those prints - slightly worn off letters - then I will be gratefull. I tried several things in Photoshop, but none was acceptable.
  2. For all, who don't know how TrackIR works - this demo shows it pretty well. I had a different link here first, but Toadvine came up with this one, which is so much better! (By the way: the name of the player is a good joke!)
  3. Yeah, this video is so much better, Toadvine! I added the address above, cause it could be easily overlooked in this post. Thanks!
  4. Never saw a "Hien" in flight; I always thought, there weren't any left. So, although this is a very short video - they look phantastic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOnHKO_Y_n0&feature=grec
  5. Widowmaker in top-form again! But you're right, greed is definitely a major factor. Greed, and the fact that it doesn't seem to be quenchable for so many of these diggers. I wish, they could really find peace and enjoyment in something, love for something or someone. Then it would be enough to have a wife and kids, a home, a garden, a car or motorbike, or maybe even both, that's okay still - and something like "Over Flanders fields" What I mean is - greed seems to be the desperate attempt to fill a hole inside you, were the love should be.
  6. Did you try IL-2's Pacific Fighters (don't know the exact name)? I found that was very good. I loved the "Frank" - best fighter to tango with Hellcats, Lightnings and Corsairs. The George is devastating like a Focke-Wulf with cannons - but has very limited amount of ammo. Thanks for the tip, Bullethead - don't know "Aces High" at all yet.
  7. One is with dogs, the other with turkeys? No?
  8. good ww1 website

Haha! Yes, hugesyman, this must be one of the best known picture websites round here! Good you also found your way to it! Take your time to see it all through - there is lots of stuff!
  9. Just had a total freeze of OFF the fourth time. What I have changed recently: - I installed the new ATI 10.3 beta driver - I have unticked most boxes in "Overrides" Any idea anyone? Does anyone else have this with the new driver installed?
  10. Well, he isn't totally lost - I regard him as retired after a bad phosgenic blood toxication from a tracer in the left foot. So he will even survive the war as a "Blue Max" hero.
  11. Every now and then, it strikes me, and I want to express the feelings about something that touched me, in a poem or the verses of a song. (Don't be afraid - it won't happen very often). Now it is always difficult to get it right in another language, but fortunately, there is a certain poetic freedom. But if you native English speaking guys see something, that is definitely wrong, don't hesitate to correct me. Those of you, who are familiar with the most well known aces, will surely know, who it is about. The Lone Wolf From the bright morning light Mirror of platinum Bathing my face in god Came he, to kill Firebird from the sun Took in a heartbeat's space my wingman, my dear friend Roaring past, gone Albatros burning red Putz raised his hand to head his last salute to us Already dead So hard to understand First he would take my friend Later he spared my life with chivalry 'Vieux Charles', where did you end Unknown your place of death No grave, no wreath nor song Lonesome and gone (Corrected with your help - thank you all!)
  12. Widow, you speak my heart: Microprose "1942 Pacific Air War" - even the Microprose logo at the start was a great show!
  13. I will install the new, non-Beta version of Catalyst driver 10.3 today. Give me one more flight, before I give you my settings after that, okay?
  14. Well, we had that debate before, but I'll repeat myself once more: If you watch the movie without even thinking it was about MvR (who was a totally different character), you can see an interesting picture about some German Jasta, maybe. Still though, these actors are more "Flyboys" than RL Prussian officers of those days. I liked most of the flying and air combat scenes (except the impossible dives with the Albatros, and some too fast tempo here and there).
  15. Perhaps you must allow for Force Feedback? Did you check "Workshop" settings?
  16. Gentlemen, please - I wanted this thread to make each other "look over his garden wall". Not for political debates, but just to realise, that others may have similar situations. So I'd be glad if we could stop analysing the political aspects. Thanks all!
  17. Barkhorn: The Hien was often mistaken for a Bf-109 by American pilots in the Pacific No wonder - it had the same Daimler Benz engine, maybe a license-built one.
  18. To be honest, this isn't even my idea - I believe, it was Creaghorn, who brought it up some time ago. But you may have missed it, so here it is again: Without TAC and Labels, it is often very hard to trace your enemy. Especially when they fly lower than you, you will often fail to see them; or you only see some of them, while others may be sneaking up on you. That's why it is useful to press "Attack" every now and then, so you can see, where your wingies go. Also you may press "Help", which will make your wingman1 attack any opponent close behind you. Particularly, when you believe, you got them all or they ran away after a fight, and you want to climb out and travel on, you should do that. Press "return" for your wingmen to unite with you, and then "Attack" or "Help" again. That way you may be sure, there is no one crawling up on you from below behind. It also works in hazy weather or among clouds - the wingies may fly towards a nearby enemy after the "Attack" order, before you even found them. This is no cheating - it only supplies you with what the RL flight leader had: several pairs of eyes in addition to his own.
  19. Wow - and here's a Bf 109 E in flight - the "Battle of Britain" one, how it should have looked in the film (instead of the Hispano-Suiza). Also never seen one before, flying. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RdRVIm8VHQ&feature=related
  20. OT: Longbow Development Blog

Looking through those pics, I again realised, what a wonderfully made landscape we have in OFF !
  21. The Lone Wolf

Hey, this is become the "Homebrew Poet's Little Workshop" here, isn't it?
  22. JFM and Bullethead - that was wonderfull! (What's PTSD therapy?) Von Paulus, music in general, and particularly the "Goldberg Variations" on Bach, isn't a bad way to overcome momentary negative feelings. Congrats, Rickitycrate! Good one, Jarhead! (Hope he'll never need the addresses!)
  23. Tried that - but then I didn't get a claim form after 4 kills. No, I can remember that there was another file, that had to be saved before, and also replaced after reset. But now it's too late. I can only retire this promising pilot. Sigh!!!
