  4. McDonnell F3H-2 Demon Ultimate for SF2

This is the third of four projects I have been working on for the last 6 months. It will be followed by an F7U Cutlass Ultimate Package(when fully completed). I am also planning an F11F Tiger Ultimate package to follow .

The F3H-2N and -2M were all built under contracts initially intended to cover for the disasterous F3H-1N. Following the completion of these contracts, a new Demon version was ordered in 1956-57 under a new set of contracts. This version was designated F3H-2 (F-3B after 1962). The F3H-2 could carry and launch the more capable AAM-N-6 (AIM-7C after September 1962) Sparrow III semi-active radar homing missile. The Sparrow III was a definite improvement over the Sparrow I, which was a pure beam riding missile, with no active homing capability, which meant that the guidance error was in the shape of a cone, which increased in diameter as the range inceased. The F3H-2 could also launch the AAM-N-7 (AIM-9B) Sidewinder IA air-to-air infrared homing air-to-air missile. The F3H-2 was equipped with an AN/APG-51B radar along with the AN/APA-127 Illuminator/Launch Envelope computer. The F3H-2 was optimized as a FIGHTER-BOMBER and could carry up to 6000 pounds of ordnance (bombs, rockets, or "special stores") on two fuselage and six wing stations. Late production F3H-2's also differed from the previous versions in having a slightly shorter beaver tail cone. The last of 239 F3H-2s was delivered on April 8, 1960, bringing the Demon production program to a close. Total Demon production was 519 aircraft. An interesting note is that there is NO EVIDENCE of the Demon ever being handed down to the USN Reserves. It seems almost all Demons were sent directly to NAS Litchfield Park and the scrapper. Only a handful remain today in museums......how sad.

Being underpowered was its major flaw. The original Westinghouse J-40 never materialized and the J-71 was fitted instead. Pilots called the Demon the "Lead Sled" or just "Sled".

This is a major rework of the existing F3H-2M demon file into the 3 variants. Almost everything has been tweeked to make it more accurate in appearance and performance. The skins have been painstakingly researched and re-created. Every squadron which flew
this -2 model Demon is represented here including changes in their scheme over time. The flight model has been adjusted to fly like the Demon and give you performance worthy of its nickname. There are new Hangar and Loading Screens as well.

Only Squadrons which operated this -2 variant of the Demon are included in the skins.

    SQUADRONS REPRESENTED:

    VF-13 Aggressors
    VF-14 Tophatters
    VF-21 Freelancers
    VF-31 Tomcatters (2 skin versions)
VF-41 Black Aces (2 skin versions)
    VF-53 Puking Dogs
    VF-54 Silver Kings
    VF-64 Freelancers
    VF-92 Silver Kings
    VF-101 Grim Reapers
    VF-121 Pacemakers (2 skin versions)
    VF-131 Nightcappers
    VF-141 Iron Angels
    VF-151 Vigilantes (2 skin versions)
    VF-161 Chargers
VF-193 Ghost Riders (3 skin versions)
    VF-213 Black Lions

YES....THAT IS 23 SEPARATE SKINS!!!!!!!! All are researched and re-created here. Bureau Numbers are accurate for 3 blocks of the F3H-2 Production line (blocks h,p and t).

A new weapons file for the AIM-7A Sparrow I missile is included. LET IT OVERWRITE any previous AIM-7A's you may have. This one is a new and CORRECT model.

There are separate ini files to allow the user to operate Air to Ground Missions (with different ordanance pylons). PLEASE SEE READ-ME for details

A read-me file is enclosed which contains installation instructions and credits.

  5. McDonnell F3H-2M Demon Ultimate for SF2

This is the second of four projects I have been working on for the last 6 months. It will be followed shortly by Ultimate Packages for the F3H-2 variant, along with a F7U Cutlass Ultimate Package.

The F3H-2M (M for "Missile") was a version of the F3H Demon that was equipped to carry and launch the early AAM-N-2 Sparrow I radar beam-riding air-to-air missile. Two of the four 20mm cannons were often removed to same weight. Sometimes all were removed and it operated pure-missile!!
The F3H-2M was produced in parallel with the F3H-2N, but only 80 examples of the F3H-2M were built. It was modified to carry the AN/APG-51B radar set that was used to guide the Sparrow I missile. Four of these Sparrow missiles could be carried underneath the wings. This model of the Demon was NOT operationally upgraded to operate the new and improved Sparrow III missile. After 1962...the designation was changed to MF-3B Demon.

Every squadron which flew
this M model Demon is represented here including changes in their scheme over time. The flight model has been adjusted to fly like the Demon and give you performance worthy of its nickname. There are new Hangar and Loading Screens as well. All Bureau Numbers are
    accurate for this variant.

A new weapon model has been created for the early Sparrow I. It is TRUE in appearance and performance (at least as much was possible).

ONLY A FEW DEMON SQUADRONS OPERATED THE F3H-2M...they are represented in this package.

    SQUADRONS REPRESENTED:

    VF-24 "Corsairs" (2 skins)
    VF-61 "Jolly Rogers" (4 skins!)
    VF-112 (2 skins)
VF-121 "Pacemakers" the West Coast RAG (Replacement Air Group)

  6. McDonnell F3H-2N Demon Ultimate for SF2

This is the first of four projects I have been working on for the last 6 months. It will be followed shortly by Ultimate Packages for the F3H-2M and F3H-2 variants, along with a F7U Cutlass Ultimate Package.

The F3H-2N was the first of three Demon variants developed in parallel with each other. It was meant to be an all-weather fighter for fleet use.
Armament consisted of four 20mm cannon and 4 pods of 2.75inch FFAR's. Later the rockets were dropped in favor of the new Sidewinder missile which had just become available. Sparrow capability was added later in its life when most 2N's were upgraded to F3H-2 models.

Being underpowered was its major flaw. The original Westinghouse J-40 never materialized and the J-71 was fitted instead. Pilots called the Demon the "Lead Sled" or just "Sled".

The four cannons are present along with the FFAR's and early Sidewinders. There are new Hangar and Loading Screens as well.

  13. Vought F8U-1 (F-8A) Crusader for SF2

The first production model of the Crusader was the F8U-1,which was later redesignated the F-8A. It first flew on September 20, 1955, and 318 were built between 1956 and 1958. The initial order had been for 448 aircraft, but the last 130 were delivered as F8U-1Es (F-8Bs). The first thirty aircraft were fitted with the Pratt & Whitney J57-P-12 engine, but this was replaced with the more powerful -4 version and in all subsequent F-8As. The original thirty were then retrofitted with the -4 as well. This made the F-8A a Mach 1.5 aircraft. Other improvements added during the production run included the addition of a retractable in-flight refueling probe in a blister on the forward left side of the fuselage. This was begun with the fiftieth production aircraft, and retrofitted to the earlier airframes. The original Vought ejection seat was replaced with the Martin Baker F5 seat.

The F-8A was armed with four 20mm canon, thirty-two 2.75-inch rockets in a drawer in the lower fuselage, and two Sidewinder missiles could be carried on fuselage stations. The AN/APG-30 gunsight radar and fire control system was installed for weapons delivery. The first aircraft was accepted for service in December 1956, just four years and three months after the issue of the original requirement by the Navy. It was delivered to VF-32 in March, 1957, with VMF-122 being the first Marine squadron to receive the Crusader. The first carrier deployment was with VF-32 on board the USS Saratoga, (CVA-60).

After being replaced with later versions of the Crusader, the F-8As were relegated to training roles, serving as advanced single-seat trainers. The designation TF-8A was often applied to these aircraft.

Your F-8A has early markings for either VA-32 or VF-122. The rocket armament IS INCLUDED but you will not see the drawer open and close.

This mod has been extensively tested in SF2V.
A read-me file with installation steps and CREDITS included.

Operated by 53rd WEG out of Tyndall AFB, Florida. First used in 2007. Should be available until 2014.

QF-16A: The Future of unmanned conversion drones. Next on the list as the last of the Phantom II airframes draws near.
Conversion of F-16A airframes has begun in 2010. This will be an AGGRESSIVE drone of EXCELLENT manueverability
and EXCELLENT countermeasures. Will be operated by 53rd WEG out of Tyndall AFB, Florida. Should be operational
    until at least 2020.

F-84KX: Former USAF fighter.A small number of "obsolete" F-84B and C models were retired from ANG use and sold to the USN for use
as target drones. Very little is known about actual use by the Navy. Your Thunderjet drone carries the colors of
GMGRU-2 out of NAS Chichoteague,VA. An AGGRESSIVE drone of good manuverability and NO countermeasures. In use from
    1956-1965.

The first production version of the Crusader. First flight on September 20th 1955. A total of 318 airframes
built between 1956 and 1958. The original order was for 448 aircraft but the last 130 were delivered as F8U-1E's
(F-8B). Use of the Pratt and Whitney J57-P-4 engine made the F-8A a MACH 1.5 capable aircraft. Originally designed
without them...the refueling system and sidewinder capability was added with the 50th production aircraft and retro-fitted
to earlier models. The F-8A was armed with four 20mm cannon, thiry-two Mighty Mouse 2.75 inch FFAR in a hinged drawer
below the fuselage and up to two sidewinder missiles on side stations. The AN/APG radar gunsight and fire control sys-
tem was installed for weapons delivery.

  15. SF2 Mescalero Proving Grounds Part 5

Another flock of drones has been released by the Apache Spirit Dancers!!

    -------------MEET YOUR NEW DRONES------------------

F9F-5K Panther: Former front line USN carrier based fighter. Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Retired and placed in service as target drones . An AGGRESSIVE drone
with good manueverability but NO countermeasures. Operated by detachment of GRGMU-2 (Guided Missile Group Two) out of NAS Chicoteague,VA.
    Type fully expended by 1964.

QT-33A Seastar: Former T-33A USAF jet trainers bailed to the USN as target drones beginning in 1965. Large numbers makes them very common as targes and expendable.
A PASSIVE drone of fair manueverability and limited countermeasures. Operated by the permanent USN detachment out of China Lake. Type finally
    expended by 1982.

QF-4N Phantom II: Former USN/USMC carrier based fighter and upgrade of the F-4B. Retired for drone use beginning in 1985. An AGGRESSIVE drone of good manueverability
and EXCELLENT countermeasures. Operated by detachment of the NWTS (Naval Weapons Test Squadron) from NAS Point Magu,CA. Type expended by 2000/2001.

QF-86F Sabre: Former JASDF from line fighter built under license in Japan by Mitsubishi. Sent to USA apon retirement and converted to target drones by private contractor.
An AGGRESSIVE drone of excellent manueverability but limited countermeasures. First used in 1976. Expended or retired by 1989. Some survivors flown today in
    display at airshows.

QF-59B Airacomet: First US jet fighter. Flown for only a short time in operational service before replaced by better aircraft(F-80). Some examples used as drones and/or
drone controllers. An AGGRESSIVE drone of fair manueverability but no countermeasures. Short drone carrer from 1950-56 makes them rare.

QB-17L Flying Fortress: Former USAAF B-17G bombers made famous in WWII. Retired in massive numbers at war's end makes them an excellent choice for bomber drone targets. A PASSIVE
drone of poor manueverabilty and no countermeasures. A tough target however! Will take alot of punishment, especially from non-cannon type rounds such as
50cal. slugs. A slow target makes for a collision danger for high speed fighters. USE CAUTION!! First deployed as drones in the late 1940's. Last use
around 1958. (note: turrets were removed from target drones).

MQM-107D Streaker: Purpose built subsonic drone of USAF. Uses an efficient turbofan engine pylon-mounted under fuselage. Its smokeless engine and small profile make it a hard
to spot target. A PASSIVE drone of limited countermeasures. First used in 1987....still operational.

    --------------DRONE CONTROLLER-------------------

SNJ-5 : More of an observation aircraft than controller. Pilot sits in front while a range safety officer uses the rear seat. Unarmed. Fun to fly!!

    ------------Hunter-Killer Aircraft------------------

F-102A Delta Dagger (Hellenic Air Force): In the late 1960's, twenty excess F-102A's were sold to Greece along with a number of AIM-4 Falcon Missiles. These aircraft remained in service until at least
    1975. A few can even be found today....sitting derelict in the weeds at Greek air bases.....:{

A full Installation and Credits read-me file is included.

Use of the QB-17L and QF-59B require access to the A-team Skunkworks download files. This access is however...NOT...required to use the Mescalero Range or any other aircraft/drone.

INCLUDED with this package are the following NEW target drones and BONUS aircraft:

THE QF-80F Shooting Star: Former front line USAF fighter of the Korean era. An AGRESSIVE drone of good manueverabilty
but no countermeasures .Operated by permanent USAF detachment from the 82nd Aerial Targets Squadron.
Type was fully expended by 1964.

THE QF-106A DELTA DART: Former front line USAF/ANG interceptor. Retired and placed in AMARC storage,Arizona.
Recalled for target drone use beginning in 1986 because of its availability
and high performance. An AGGRESSIVE drone of fair maneuverability and good counter-
measures. Type fully expended by 2005.

THE AQM-136A Falconer II: Former Tacit Rainbow cruise missile(cancelled). . Originally designed as a stand-off weapon to saturate enemy air defenses. Re-designed as an inexpensive aerial target.
A PASSIVE drone with poor manueverability. Low speed and limited countermeasures make it an easy missile target. Its small size HOWEVER makes it a difficult
gunnery target! Air launched from drone control aircraft, it follows a pre-programmed GPS flightpath. Recovered by parachute unless destroyed.

THE F6F-5K Hellcat: Former front line carrier fighter of the USN in WW2. Propeller driven. One of the first full scale conversion drones ever used. Operational from late 1940's until fully expended

use in 1998. An AGGRESSIVE drone of fair/good manueverability and EXCEPTIONAL countermeasures!! Operated by rotating detachment of the 53rd Weapons Evaluation Group, Tyndall AFB,Florida.
Type should be fully expended or retired by 2011 as QF-16A becomes available.

    --------------DRONE CONTROLLER-------------------

THE F9F-5KD Panther : Drone controller conversion of the F9F-5P Photo-recon Panther. Extended nose (once for cameras) allows excellent location for drone control equipment.
Pilot can fully operate and/or assume command of drones via radio control. Operated on a limited utility basis from 1955 until 1965.

As always: A FULL installation READ-ME and CREDITS enclosed.

Use of the F6F-5K requires access to Geo's Aircraft download site. This access is however...NOT...required to use the Mescalero Range or any other aircraft/drone.

INCLUDED with this package are the following NEW target drones and BONUS aircraft:

THE QF-9J Cougar: Former front line carrier fighter of the USN. An AGRESSIVE drone of good manueverabilty
but no countermeasures.Operated by permanent USN detachment from China Lake. Type was
    fully expended by 1975.

THE PQM-102A DELTA DAGGER: Former front line USAF interceptor. Retired and placed in AMARC storage,Arizona.
Recalled for target drone use in 1975 because of its performance simularities to
the Soviet Mig-21. An AGGRESSIVE drone of fair manueverability and limited counter-
measures. Type fully expended by 1986.

THE CQM-10B BOMARC: Former USAF air defense missile. Retired in 1972 and converted for target drone use.
A PASSIVE drone of poor manueverability BUT SUPERIOR SPEED!! A pair of ramjet engines
can hold MACH 1.7 over the range and MACH 3.5 at higher altitudes. Limited countermeasures.
A "shoot quick or it's gone" target. Designed to simulate the MIG-25 Foxbat or SR-71 type
recon aircraft. Ground launched via self contained booster rocket.

THE QT-38A Talon: Former USAF supersonic Advanced Trainer. Obtained by USN in 1975. and converted to target drone.
Retrofitted with belly-pod containing limited countermeasures. A passive drone of fair/good manuever-
ability. Operated by permanent USN detachment from China Lake. Type still operational but retirement
    is immenent.

THE QF-4B Phantom II: Former front line carrier fighter of the USN. An AGRESSIVE drone of good manueverabilty
and good countermeasures.Operated by rotating USN detachment from US NAVAL MISSILE CENTER in.

    --------------DRONE CONTROLLER-------------------

THE FJ3-D2 Fury: Drone controller conversion of the FJ-3 Fury. Pilot can assume command of errant drones and activate
self-destruct mechanism via radio control. Armed with (4x) 20mm cannon as secondary termination
choice. Operated on a limited utility basis from 1955 until 1966.

-------------RANGE "HUNTER KILLER" AIRCRAFT------(one of my personal favorites!!)

THE F4D-1 Skyray: Short-lived, front line carrier fighter of the USN and later USMC. Designed as an interceptor for the fleet.
Holder of several speed and climb-to altitude records of its day. Has (4x) 20mm cannon in wings with limited
ammo. Primarily designed to intercept with unguided "Mighty Mouse" rockets in external pods. Can be con-
figured to use early sidewinder missiles instead. Capable, but NOT USED for air/ground operations (due to wing
stress problems). Limited internal fuel makes drop-tanks neccesary. VERY limited combat time over range
once tanks are dropped.....WATCH YOUR FUEL!! Non-carrier use over land requires carrying of external
NAVPAC which contains needed avionics for navigation (VOR-OMNI) and instrument apporach use (ILS). This pack
is non-droppable and carried on centerline. Your Skyray wears the colors of FAGU.....the Fleet Air Gunnery Unit,Pacific
    out of NAAS ElCentro,Calif. 1958.

A full READ-ME file with installation and CREDITS is included. ENJOY!!!

  24. OA-37B Dragonfly Pack

After the war, the USAF passed their A-37Bs from the USAF Tactical Air Command (TAC) to TAC-gained units in the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve. In the early 1980s these aircraft were assigned to the FAC (Forward Air Control) role and given the designation OA-37B. The OA-37Bs were eventually phased out and replaced in the FAC mission by the much more formidable Fairchild OA-10A Warthog in Regular Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve service.

For the A-37B Dragonfly which can be found in the Aircraft Download section under US Air Force aircraft. Simply place these three folders into your USAF_A-37B Folder and enjoy!!!
